A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Does bowing a courtier with Shibata Sensei satisfy the conditions of Claiming the Throne, or must one actually possess and discard the Imperial Favor its self?
I looked for a ruling, but the closest situation I could find was a thread from what I believe was Celestial Edition, which seems to suggest you can, but I'd like clarification.

Shibata Sensei's trait only applies to Favor actions. The player ability granted by Claiming the Throne does not have the Favor keyword, so actions from it are not Favor actions.
