Saigyo question

L5R CCG Rules board, 8 June 2015 to 9 June 2015

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

So if you've been keeping up with my questioning on aroru sensei, and saigyo i have a question about Saigyo's ability itself.

Ninja Battle: A target enemy Personality challenges Saigyo. Give the winner +2F.

My question is thus. Following the logic that Aroru sensei doesn't work with saigyo because saigyo's ability does not specifically target him, could you use one saigyo to have his duel challenge another saigyo at the same battlefield? If you cannot do this why is this the case?

Per the CR on References, "References on a card to the card’s own title or to a shortened form of the title in the case of Personalities (such as “Kei” as short for “Mirumoto Kei”), refer to the card itself. Such references by title refer only to that copy of the card, not to any other copy that might exist, unless they use wording such as “a Mirumoto Kei” or “a copy of Mirumoto Kei.”"

So no, you may not use one Saigyo to have someone challenge another copy of Saigyo.
