Architect and 2g fortifications

L5R CCG Rules board, 1 June 2015 to 3 June 2015

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 1 June 2015

Question is:

How exacly does Architect work with fortifications that cost 2g?

Rulebook clearly states, that:

If a player produces more Gold than is needed to pay a cost, the extra Gold is added to the player’s Gold pool, and is available to help pay other costs later in that phase of the game. At the end of each phase, any unspent Gold in the pool disappears into the hands of Imperial tax collectors.

So i annouce recruit action, and say, that it will be 2g recruit, as i want to target my Carpenter's Shrine. I Pay with Architect 2g, and as it produces 3, one gold falls into gold pool, as I can not find anything in rulebook, that allows me to not put excess gold from recrut action into pool.

Do i have to track what will i do with that gold? Do i change province to which Carpenter's Shrine is attached at the end of dynasty phase if i didn't used that one gold? Or i Just can not chose province when paying for 2g for with Architect?

So how does this card work?

If you constrain Architect's production to only pay for a single Fortification, you may attach it to any of your provinces, but any surplus gold is lost.

The rulebook states: EXCEPTION: Some Gold production says it may only pay for a certain cost or type of cost, with wording such as “This Holding has +2GP if this only pays for a single Follower”. The choice to have the extra GP is taken at the point of producing Gold with that source. If the extra GP is taken, that Gold is tracked separately, does not enter the pool, and cannot pay for anything else than the action (including Recruit/Equip) for which the Gold was produced; excess production disappears after the Pay Costs step of the action.

As written, this only covers the case were constraining the gold production to a single purchase allows you to produce more gold, but it also applies where constraining the gold production creates additional effects. I'll get the Comprehensive Rules clarified.
