Comprehensive Rules 1.9 Findings

L5R CCG Rules board, 27 December 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I had a quick look at the Comprehensive Rules 1.9. It is a really nice document and very comfortable to browse. So I had a quick look at it and found a few issues. Most of them are rather technical and probably a bit pedantic, but QC is a big part of my job, so I guess this is normal for me .

Card Types The way that parts of cards are displayed is very inconsistent. Either as a bold and part of the same card type heading:

Code: Select all <p><b>Gold Production</b>: The middle of a Stronghold’s three icons, the coin, shows its Gold Production (abbreviated GP); the amount of Gold the Stronghold produces when bowed. A Stronghold’s GP is a <a href="#stats">stat</a> that can be affected by tokens and effects.</p> or as a subheading:

Code: Select all <p class="autoanchor"><a class="mwm-aal-item" name="starting-family-honor"></a></p><h5>Starting Family Honor</h5> <p>The bottom icon on a Stronghold shows its Starting Family Honor stat, which gives a starting value for the player’s <a href="#family-honor">Family Honor</a> score.</p> This part of the document would be better readable, if one of the two methods would be used consistent.

Costs The Open from the first example is grey not black. In both examples should be a comma after the action designator not a colon.

Player abilities and traits Reserve Equip and Reserve Recruit are missing from the Battle Section.

Attack Phase Doesn't list the abilities you can perform during the attack phase. Action Phase and Dynasty Phase list these abilites, so I guess this is an oversight.

Specific Game Terms and Procedures The following terms are bolded for no reason: Cost; Focus, Focus Effect; Higher than; Increase; Instead; Lower than. The can easily be found by searching the source code for the string "</a></p><h3><b>". Just remove the b-tag. Under Fail the following piece of code needs to be removed:

Code: Select all <p><a href="#fate-and-dynasty-decks">Fate</a>: A deck in the game and the type of cards that go in it.</p>

Appendix B Could you link the listed items to their entry in Specific Game Terms and Procedures?

General The document closes with: [/vc-column-text][/vc-column][/vc-row]. These should probably not be there. And last but not least the w3c validation report. The warnings are very much ignorable, but you should probably fix the errors.

12 errors isn't much. I know far bigger sites which do far worse. So all in all a good job.
