Since Reserve is a trait, can I do this in battle as well? If not normally, can I do it if I have a reserve card? And just how bad is THIS for the game?
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Reserve makes use of different player abilities than the "normal" Recruit and Equip ones.
The Reserve Recruit/Equip abilites require targets, and thus cannot be used to choose to pay 0 and then fail to bring a card into play. (CR, page 59)
Equip Repeatable Open, (*): Attach an attachment card, with Gold Cost equal to the amount you paid, from your hand to your target Personality. Reserve Equip Repeatable Battle, (*): If it would be opposed, Equip a Reserve attachment to your target Personality.
I don't get it... Both actions require a target. A personality to be exact. The Reserve Equip needs this personality to be opposed. Why can't I use the Reserve Equip action to "not pass" in a battle, if I have an opposed personality said battle? I mean Good Faith does not check if I have an Reserve Attachment and so I should be able to Announce (and Fail) the Action since I meet all requirements in Good Faith.
