Keyword Confusion

L5R CCG Rules board, 16 December 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

So I hope I got everything.

Boldface Keywords: Armor, Cavalry, Conqueror, Courage, Destined, Duelist, Expendable, [In]Experienced [#; name], Fortification, Kensai, Kharmic, Legacy, Loyal, Naval, Reserve, Resilient, Tactician, Weapon, Unique (I already removed Shugenja since you want to make that a non-boldface keyword) Non-Boldface Keywords: Samurai, etc.; Clan Alignments (implictly given by the Mon), and Ability Keywords (like Political, including the functional ability keywords: Absent, Home, Unstoppable, Repeatable, Tireless) Action Designator: Limited, Open, Engage, Battle, Interrupt, Dynasty, Reaction (Reaction is an Lagacy Action Designator but is still mentioned in the Rule Book but oddly not under Action Designator)

A few questions: 1. What does the Legacy Keyword do? It is in the list of boldface keywords, but I can't find any rules for this? 2. Since keyword inherance works from ability to card, a card with a Unstoppable Battle action is in itself Unstoppable. Can the enemy play Interrupts when I recrut such a card? Or since they are not under the Boldface Keyword list, do they have a game effect when inherented to the card or are they just non-boldface keywords without rule text attached? 3. Page 14 states that : “Battle”, “Limited”, “Open” and “Reaction” are appear in boldface, but are action designators, not keywords. So are Engage, Interrupt and Dynasty Action Designators and Keywords?

A few questions: 1. What does the Legacy Keyword do? It is in the list of boldface keywords, but I can't find any rules for this?

Legacy will have rules attached to it with the release of Twenty Festivals in Q1 of 2015. Until then, it has no rules relevance in the Ivory-arc.

The Recruiting action does not inherit any Keywords from the card being Recruited, so they would have no relevance in this situation.

3. Page 14 states that : “Battle”, “Limited”, “Open” and “Reaction” are appear in boldface, but are action designators, not keywords. So are Engage, Interrupt and Dynasty Action Designators and Keywords?

Engage, Interrupt, and Dynasty are not keywords; they are only action designators. I will make sure the CR is updated to more explicitly state this.
