Reserve / Equip without Attaching

L5R CCG Rules board, 10 November 2014 to 18 November 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Can you announce the Reserve / Equip battle action without having a legal "Reserve" attachment in your hand?

Here is the situation:

I have Ring of Air and Tsujinken's Coin in play and a 4 gold cost reserve follower. I announce the reserve equip battle action and bow the Coin to produce 2 gold. I choose to use 0 gold to pay the gold cost of the action. I do not have a 0 gold cost reserve attachment so the equip fails. Next action I use the ring to straighten the coin. Finally I announce the reserve equip again, bow the coin to produce 2 gold. Use the 4 gold in the pool to pay for the action and equip the reserve follower.

This is currently legal.

However, the Rules will be changed with Twenty Festivals to close this "loophole".
