Junsuke's Proclaim

L5R CCG Rules board, 26 October 2014 to 27 October 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Just for confirmation - opponent wants to play Junsuke, and has two ancestors out. Junsuke is proclaimed for 2 and not 4, correct?

Key interaction: his trait states that if the player proclaiming him has more ancestors than Junsuke has personal honour, the proclaim amount is set to the number of ancestors, rather than taking whatever his PH is and increasing it (max 5, of course) by the number of ancestors.

"Increase your Honor gain from Proclaiming Junsuke to equal the number of Ancestors, up to 5, you control."

This wording is Irksome. I know that the maximum you can proclaim for is 5.

People have been saying you do not increase the proclaim honor gain, instead you replace it.

If the intent is to replace the honor gained by the number, why word it using Increase? Increase means to grow.

Now...if for instance, the number of ancestors you have is 2, and you increase your proclaim to equal the number of ancestors, the increase is = to the number of ancestors right? So it would be 2+2.

If this is not the case then why word it like that. Just word it "You may proclaim Junsuke for an amount of honor = to the number of ancestors in play, max 5, instead of her normal proclaim value." That would be much easier and cause far less wording disputes.

The honour gain from proclaiming Junsuke is "increase[d] ... to", not "increase[d] ... by". If you have 3 Ancestors in play when you gain the honour, you gain 3, not 5.

The word "increase" is used so that if you have no Ancestors, or just one, in play, the honour gain from Proclaiming him is not less than his Personal Honour.
