multiple maxima again

L5R CCG Rules board, 9 July 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I don't see how in these cases one necessarily overwrites the other. In one, the personality has a maximum ph of 0. He also has a maximum ph of 4. Why does the first restriction all of a sudden disappear when the second one gets added?

In the other case, the personality has two separate force maximums (of 3 and 4). Why does one effect overwrite the other?

It seems like in the explanations of both of these cases, one effect is being removed by another when both effects should be in force. Can you please explain why this is the case? I don't see how an effect like "a personality has a maximum force of 4" also means "a personality no longer has a maximum force of 3." How is giving someone another maximum changing the same game state rather than just adding another effect to the personality? The two effects are not mutually exclusive (as in the sneak attack/shosuro toson exp2 example given).

To add on the my question: Say in the Chizuru question, the personality is rehonored, then dishonored again. Is their new max ph now 0 again? What happens if they are then rehonored again? Is their max ph 4 again? Or was the Chizuru effect removed entirely.
