Cavalry Escort Attach vs Equip

L5R CCG Rules board, 18 June 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Regarding this ruling on Cavalry Escort's reminder text: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=108614&p=1427240

Battle, (*) : If this Follower is in your hand, Recruit your target Personality (paying all costs) for 5 more gold and attach this Follower (ignoring all costs) to him.

As the OP replied two weeks ago, there does not seem to be a basis in the comprehensive rulebook that would allow cavalry escort to enter play ignoring costs.

The ruling made contradicts the following rules:

Followers, Items and Spells are all attachment cards. They attach to Personalities in play using the Equip procedure (p.36), placing the card under the Personality with the title showing.

Furthermore, any time an effect brings an attachment into play from an out-of-play area, it is considered Equipping and follows the Equip procedure with any modifications. This does not apply to created cards because they are being brought into existence from nothingness.

Gold Cost:Attachments have a Gold Cost stat which equals the amount a player must pay when Equipping them.

There is no such "attach" effect in the rulebook, that Ben refers to in his reply, that would bypass payment of costs. By the current rules the attachment enters play so its 3G cost should be added to the 5G and Personality's cost when the action is played, as per the equip rules.

This is stated on the card Sadamune Blade which has specific rules text to bypass the gold cost on "attaching".

As a Focus Effect, after this duel ends, if your Personality won it, you may attach this Item to him, ignoring costs.

My question is a restatement of the OP's: Is the reminder text on this card incorrect or, if not, which part of this action is allowing the player to ignore the gold cost of the follower entering play?
