A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

This came up and my playgroup decided that it would be best to run it by the Rules team
The terminology of Recruit in Ivory is as follows Recruit is the Repeatable Dynasty action that lets you bring into play faceup Personalities and Holdings from Provinces during your turn; the Gold cost of the action pays for the Recruited card’s Gold Cost.[*]
It specifically states from provinces in the wording of the action.
Daigotsu Endo's ability reads
Limited, : If Endo is dead, Recruit him.
When Endo is dead he would be in the graveyard and not in your provinces. Does his recruit action still work? and why does it still work?
Regards

Yes, of course he works.
Endo specifically overrides the wording of Recruit where it specifies the Personality must be in Province- if a Personality is dead, he cannot be in Province. So you may Recruit him when dead, in opposition to the normal Recruit rules.
