Targeting Ranged/Melee Attacks

L5R CCG Rules board, 10 April 2014 to 18 April 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I'm sure I've checked and haven't found any topics on this but if I missed any then I apologize.

The new Ivory rulebook says that Ranged/Melee Attacks are now shorthand for “Destroy a target enemy Follower or Personality without Followers with X or lower Force.”. Does that mean that an enemy Follower or Personality without Followers with Force higher than X is not a legal target? Thanks for the clarification.

The Comprehensive Rules clarify this truncation in the printed Rulebooks. Melee and Ranged X Attack is shorthand for, "Target a Follower or a Personality without Followers in the current enemy army. If its Force is equal to or less than X, destroy it." So, Force does not determine a target's legality at all.
