Oath of Fealty

L5R CCG Rules board, 21 March 2014 to 22 March 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hi there.

This is probably a dumb question, but I wanted to get a full clarification from the rules team before I started making assumptions on how this card work.

If I play Oath of Fealty, does the ability also include personalities not in play at the time I play the card. My specific example is that if I am playing Lion, and then flip a Unicorn personality in my province, can I then play Oath of Fealty to give him Lion Clan as a clan alignment or does he have to be in play for that to work?

Oath of Fealty Limited: Permanently remove all Clan Alignments from all your Human Personalities without your Clan Alignment, permanently give them your Clan Alignment, and give them each a +1F/+1C token.

Thanks in advance

All effects, unless they specify otherwise, only affect cards in play. So, no, Oath does not effect your out-of-play Personalities.
