Todori Sensei clarification on combining

L5R CCG Rules board, 2 February 2014 to 3 February 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Simply put, can the ranged attack from Todori Sensei be combined with other possible ranged attacks on other cards in the targeted follower's unit?

Looked at one way, it seems to be that the Sensei generates the ranged attack at the cost of targeting and bowing a follower. Since the RA did not come from a card in the unit, it wouldn't be possible to combine it with other RAs from the unit.

Seen another way, the rulebook states on Page 26:

After you have paid the costs of an initial action that creates an attack effect from a card in a unit, as an Interrupt to that action, you may pay the costs of an action from another card in the same unit that is appropriate to the phase and that creates another attack effect of the same kind, using that ability.

So, since the follower is targeted by the Sensei, does that mean the attack effect comes from the follower allowing for combination afterwards?

Thanks

Todori Sensei

Crab Clan Your Stronghold has not traits and abilities.

Battle, Bow: Bow your target unbowed Follower. Ranged Attack with strength equal to its Force.

Todori Sensei isn't in a unit. Therefore no card can be "in the same unit" as Todori Sensei.

Targeting the follower doesn't change the source of the effect, it doesn't come "from" the follower (and performing is now extinct). So Todori Sensei's RA can't be combined.
