Regarding this topic... viewtopic.php?f=59&t=106709
I'm not sure if the intent here is just to see whether something targets something for some other effect (Such as "if this personality was targeted..." etc), but in reading that ruling, I just want to make sure I understand correctly.
In the case of Final Sacrifice vs an action that targets one of my personalities, the correct order is:
1) My opponent announces the action by name only, but doesn't target anyone yet.
2) I get an opportunity to react with final sacrifice to make my Yojimbo take the action.
3) Now the action resolves, and the opponent "tries" to target someone, but it targets my yojimbo instead.
I just want to make sure I get this. Because there are some situations where if the opponent targets personality A with that action, I would use Final Sacrifice in a heartbeat, but if he targets personality B with that action, then I wouldn't. And sometimes this isn't immediately apparent (due to the interactions in my hand) so this isn't just an outlying situation of the opponent just "being bad" and "choosing the wrong option".
I always thought that the order was:
1) My opponent announces the action and names who it WILL target (although the action itself hasn't actually started resolving yet, so the personality isn't "targeted" yet for effects where "targeting" may matter).
2) I get the opportunity to react: a) If he targets personality A, I react with Final Sacrifice naming my Yojimbo. b) If he targets personality B, I pass on taking any reactions to the action.
3) The action resolves: a) When the action resolves, it targets my Yojimbo. b) When the action resolves, it targets personality B.
Cards where I think this may be an issue/cause confusion: Versatile Army- What if he wasn't even going to bow one of my guys, just straighten one of his? He now can bow my yojimbo AND he drew a card out of my hand (Final Sacrifice). Fires of Turmoil - Similar to above, except now my yojimbo may straighten? That seems counter intuitive to the intent of the card.
