Seeking the Way

L5R CCG Rules board, 17 January 2014 to 30 March 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

With the new IvE templating, can I now announce Seeking the Way's battle action if it is attached to a bowed shugenja? I know in EE you couldn't as the bowing was a cost. If so, I know the movement effects won't happen because they say "bow this shugenja to...", but will the independent effect of gain 2 honor still happen?

Thanks

No, I'm afraid you cannot.

You're right that the Gain 2 Honor is independent of the bowing the Shugenja to move home a target attacking Personality. But, because the targeting itself is also wrapped up in the effect that you need to bow to do, it means you can't meet the required targeting if you can't bow the Shugenja to do it, and therefore can't announce the action at all in Good Faith.

The above Ruling is no longer correct. Apologies, thanks!

You in fact CAN announce Seeking the Way on a bowed Shugenja, and all conditional effects after "to" (which now include both the movements and the Honor gain, thanks to tech errata) will then fail because you did not bow him.
