A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Just wanting to 100% confirm what happens in this scenario. In Stillness, Forge the Soul reads:
"Open: Target your unbowed Personality. Look at the top five cards of your Fate deck. You may Equip one of them that is a Weapon to him. Put the remaining cards back in any order. If he is a Kensai and you did not Equip a Weapon, you may put this Strategy back in your hand before the turn ends."
If I reveal and attach Utaku's Destiny, given that it's Destined keyword triggers just after it attaches, when I draw the card, is it the next top card I revealed for IS,FTS (assuming Utaku's was on the top, I'd draw the second, or the first card revealed if not)?
Thanks!

The Equip procedure occurs fully before you have had the opportunity of rearranging the cards, so you will draw the first card you looked at (or the second, if the first was Utaku's Destiny)

This question came up when reading this thread: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=106325&p=1401437&hilit=stillness#p1401437
Since its important that you resolve the equip action before resolving the "rearrange" portion of Stillness's effect, then does that mean if you've rearranged any cards, that it's then too late to attach any cards? It's only relevant with a destined weapon like Utaku's Destiny, but if that's the general rule, then in a tournament, if a player starts rearranging the cards then decides to attach any old weapon (even if not destined), would it technically be too late to attach?
Player A plays In Stillness Forge the Soul. Looks at top 5. Starts shuffling the cards around deciding what to do, and then says he's going to attach a Versatile Blade. Player B says, "sorry, you started rearranging the cards, its too late to attach". Is this valid?

Personally I'd discourage doing so in a tournament if the movement holds no mechanical meaning, and I'd recommend Head Judges to be wise and not stop a player from Equiping a Weapon just because he rearranged the cards. If only, because not every player reads this forum. If the Weapon is not Destined, there's no mechanical manipulation and therefore no change in the game state.
But yes, technically speaking, players *should not* rearrange the cards before they attach the Weapon, and it would be best if they took care to play it so, especially if their deck packs Destined Weapons, where this could come into question.
