Strength in the Earth (Keywords in CoM)

L5R CCG Rules board, 3 June 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A question came up this week at our local event about keywords in CoM, in particular in regards to Strength in the Earth and if it can be retrieved from the deck with the limited action on Naka Mahatsu. I was fairly sure that it did not meet the requirements because the only keyword on the card is Kiho. This lead to the next obvious question about if the reaction on Naka Mahatsu could negate the effects of Strength in the Earth which I thought was a legal play because the action does have the Earth keyword although the card itself does not. I told the player in question that I would post here to make sure we have official word moving forward. When looking the cards up on OotV to post this question I see that the text entry for Strength in Earth lists Earth as one of the Keywords although it does not appear on the physical card. I assume this is due to template and/or rules differences between Emperor Edition and Ivory Edition? Should we assume that CoM spells and strategies with bold elemental actions should have the appropriate keyword?

Kicking this up for discussion.
