Hi,
I want to play a Ring from my hand. I have a Monk in play, on whom I'd earlier played Harmony. Now, considering the following rules:
Changes to costs and payments (...) A substitution that is phrased in the general form "Before you pay a cost by/of [doing X], you may pay the cost by [doing Y]" does not require that you are able to do X in the first place, because it refers to the point when the cost requirement is set. (...) A substitution that is phrased in the general form "Before you [do X] to pay a cost, you may pay the cost by [doing Y] instead" does require that you are able to do X in the first place, because it refers to the actual carrying out of the cost payment.
I have a question about the wording of Harmony: which substitution phrase pertains to it? In other words: can I pay the cost of playing a Ring from my hand by bowing the Monk? (I know this is somewhat irrelevant anyway after the Madrid Kotei Rules Erratum, just wanted to know how to interprete the substitution part of the case).
Harmony Open: Choose your performing Monk: Permanently give him the trait, "You may bow this card instead of bowing a Ring to pay a cost."
