Arcane Cloak/Emerald Armor versus multiple targets

L5R CCG Rules board, 10 March 2013 to 11 March 2013

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Scenario: I have three dishonored personalities at a battle, one of which has either the Emerald Armor or the Arcane Cloak of the Chameleons attached. My opponent plays Power of the Word. Is he able to send said equipped person home as it says target up to three people?

Relevant text:

The Emerald Armor: Attaches to an Emerald Champion ignoring costs. This Personality has +1PH and Imperial • Magistrate. Other players may not target this Personality with actions while there is another Personality at his location who is a legal target for the action.

The Arcane Cloak...: Will only attach to a Scorpion Clan or Naga Personality. Other players may not target cards in this unit with actions if there are any other legal targets in this army. Battle: Move this Personality home.

Power of the Word: Battle: Target one to three enemy dishonorable Personalities: The shadow of their shame shall fall upon their shoulders. Move them home.

Thanks muchly

At the point of targeting, there's only one Personality which is a legal target for Power of a Word, and it is legal to choose just one target with it. You have to get rid of that Personality before you can target with your next action the other two.
