A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hi! Regarding this topic: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=102070
So just double-checking... are you able to negate the force bonus from created cards (such as Bo of Water) with cards that negate force bonus' (i.e. Warded Premises, Creating Order, etc.)?
Thanks!

No, because those cards create cards, not tokens, so the force bonuses come from an item, not from an action. (IIRC this has been this way since Lotus Edition, when the concept of token was differentiated from created cards)
The difference here is that tokens can't be the source of effects, but cards can be (and usually are). When you create a token with a stat modifier, it can be traced to the action that created the token, and counts as a stat modification from an action. But when you create a card, it becomes the source of the stat modification (it comes from an item). It doesn't matter that the item was created by an action because the item is itself a source of effects.
Cards =/= tokens, and the rules governing them are different.
