Hello all,

This came up in a game last week and I wanted to make sure we got things right. I tried to do a search on this and got some relevant results but nothing I found that was truly on this point:

The Phoenix player had Asako Karachu in play and his Crane opponent targeted Karachu with Shinden Asahina's ability. With Karachu's trait in mind, the Phoenix player accepted the "bow" option and then straightened him, the logic being either one of two things.

1. As a reaction to the bowing, Karachu automatically straightens; or

2. Karachu's straightening is negated, at which point his trait triggers again, ad nauseum.

While I at the time agreed with the second point given my reading of another thread near to this question, I now feel that because of the ruling here that Karachu's straightening in this situation truly would be fully negated because in this situation the bow and negate aren't separate effects thanks to the "and" between them.

Of course, I would appreciate a definitive ruling on that question if possible. Thanks!

Relevant card text:

After Karachu bows: Straighten him

Open: Even if this card is bowed, bow your performing Shugenja and target another player's unbowed Personality: His controller may choose to bow him and negate his straightening (this turn). If he did not choose this, gain 1 Honor.
