Hato-Gurama and Doji Nagori XP

L5R CCG Rules board, 18 November 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Political Limited: Target a card in your hand: You offer it as a gift. Show it to another player. He may put it into his hand; if he did, you gain Honor equal to its Focus Value. If he did not choose this, discard it and draw two cards.

So I control a Doji Nagori XP and announce his Limited ability. But I have a Hato-Gurama in my hand:

You may not choose this card to be discarded as a cost or effect of your actions if you have other cards in your hand.

I'm not choosing to discard Hato-Gurama, I just target it and show it to my opponent, it's my opponent who chooses whether to discard it or not. If he chooses not to put it in his hand, do I have to discard it? Do I get to draw 2 cards?

You didn't choose to discard it, your opponent did. Discard it. Draw 2.
