Luxurious Silk And Tanimura, Makoto or Daiki

L5R CCG Rules board, 15 October 2012 to 25 October 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

So this came up in a game recently, and I think I know the answer but I want to be sure. My opponent, who controls a Luxurious Silk, targeted Tanimura with a battle action, which I then reacted with his second reaction, shown below. Can he use Luxurious Silk to pay for this? My response is no, as he is not paying the cost for of an action, but I can see his argument as he is paying what I could see considered a cost (Though possibly not in the L5R Technical sense) from an action.

I included Yasuki Daiki and Yasuki Makoto just to help other people's searches, as they are worded similarly.

For Reference: Yasuki Tanimura Reads: 'Political Reaction: After another player's Battle action targets Tanimura: The player may pay 4 Gold. If he did not pay the Gold, he loses 3 Honor.' Luxurious Silk Reads: 'Reaction: Even if this card is bowed, when paying for an action: Produce 2 Gold.'

ANY WORD ON A RULING ON THIS?

Mod nudge: Don't shout.

The gold is being used to pay for an action, rather than for a Personality or attachment, so Luxurious Silk may be used.

See Gold production.

Regarding http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1321451#p1321451

Wouldn't the player be paying for an effect of an action and not paying for an action, or is that not a distinction that is made?

Sometimes, but not in this instance.
