Regarding good faith: My opponent plays deadly ground. Can I use a tactician to use (superior strategist/The Death Of The Winds) to search for a way to destroy Deadly ground?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 2 August 2026 04:59 · in reply

No. The only actions playable are ones that directly remove it, not indirectly.

A player, 2 August 2026 16:55

I'm using stronghold: Sepulcher of Bone because it has one of the coolest stronghold names. I play Burn The Village on my opponent's two boxable personalities: one of whom has a follower. As a trait of my stronghold do I create one, two, or three 1F Undead Shadowlands Followers?

A player, 2 August 2026 17:37

Both personalities are destroyed but not the follower that is discarded instead.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 2 August 2026 17:39 · in reply

Attachments leave game same way as Personalities they are attached to. But they dont keep "destroyed" status like Personalities in discard pile.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 2 August 2026 17:40

That's also why you gain additional honor during battle resolution for all destroyed cards, including Followers.

A player, 2 August 2026 17:48

But in this situation BtV destroy personalities, as the personality is destroyed the follower is discarded but not destroyed, and you can not aplly effects or reactions to the destruction. Would be different if the action destroy all the unit. (If I remember correctly)

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 2 August 2026 18:38 · in reply

That may have been true at one point, but not under the most recent CR, which OBH mostly uses. Attachments leave play the same way the Personality does, like Kempy said. So, if the Personality is destroyed, so are all their attachments.

@Brook Cunningham

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 5 August 2026 22:15 · in reply

No. Per SE Rules, your Courtier does not technically perform the action, because they are not targeted in the constraints.

A player, 5 August 2026 22:15

but he is dishonoring the personality before the two dots

A player, 5 August 2026 22:16

so is performing the action

A player, 5 August 2026 22:16

you have to dishonor your courtier

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 5 August 2026 22:16

In Samurai Edition, no targeting is implicit. It is all explicit or it is not considered "targeting".

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 5 August 2026 22:19

So, no, the Courtier is not performing the action.

Hello. This is a rules question in general: Let's say I'm in the middle of a match and I need an official rules answer? Which individuals are authorized to provide official answers (I know lots of people probably know an answer, but when it needs to be official, well it needs to be official.

2. Also lets say an official person makes a determination but missed a coma, colon, etc, but has to make a correction five minutes later, but at that point players have moved forward. What happens at that point?

3. Are players allowed to schedule ahead of time and ask judge to watch/officiate a match just to avoid issues? Obviously a lot of coordination would be required, but can this be done?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 6 August 2026 00:41 · in reply

Probably all best answered by the TO, @kempy_nezumi .

[BIG DECK]

Just making sure I read correctly. Players do not have the ability to commit seppukku as reaction to an honor loss...i.e. getting targeted with Shame?

A player, 6 August 2026 17:31

you can seppukku as a reaction to a shame

A player, 6 August 2026 17:31

save you are not a samurai or courtier. In legacy shuggenja can seppukku as well

kempy_nezumi (not official), 6 August 2026 18:42 · in reply

You need to be careful with such answers. Thats why [format] tag is important.

there are legacy formats - like original aeg legacy (based on twenty festivals) where there's no rulebook seppuku action by default, it requires specific "do sepukku" effect. just like in ivory and twenty festivals editions.

In some legacy formats sepukku might be Reaction (like in OBH) or Open ability (like in Modern format). Some may be used by samurai and courtier, and in some you may sepukku also shugenja.

We don't use active judgement policy in our tourneys, because there's no possibility to cover 24h, 7 days a week and this whole time zone stuff is just complicated. Both players have to be knowledgable about their game and cards. In case of problems, you may just ask a question here, but nobody here's obligated to make fast answer (or any).

We know there are people (like @Brook Cunningham marked as tag) with their solid ability to interpret the cards' writing based on their experience and knowledge. And almost always their answers are substantive and do not require additional explanation.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 6 August 2026 19:08

In many cases such error during play can't be reversed. Following tournament Code of Bushido document there's such sentence under Game Play Error section:

"If not caught within a reasonable time frame, or backing up is impossible or sufficiently that is could affect the course of the game, the judge should leave the game state as it is and not attempt any form of partial "fix". Generally any change of phase, resolution of combat, or at least 5 subsequent actions should be considered impossible or sufficiently complex."

FYI CoB document is in Various/Tournament folder of DropBox.

1. No. The fan only increases the gain from won/tied battles per the Rulebook/Battle resolution.

2. No, and no. Poetry and Ritual Armor (I assume typo) only affect actions; Halls/Plains/Tadaji's gains are traits.

They are from Lotus, diamond and Lotus.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 10 August 2026 06:40 · in reply

Currently, no. As OBH Rules specifically say Oracle text trumps anything else.

However, I see that the Monks and Pilgrim should have it added, since they are from an era when Titles convey keywords. The Veteran Warrior, however, is not (pretty sure Titles stopped conveying keywords in starting with SE).

So, I'll have to fix two of those, and then they will start counting.

The Sound of Thunder. Can I target a battle maiden follower outside of battle, and move it to a personality inside of battle?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 10 August 2026 06:49 · in reply

I mean, to be blunt, and I've been up front about this, a lot of the Oracle wasn't updated post Ivory because of all the many Ivory Rules changes. Warrior didn't become Rules-relevant until Siege: HoD, which released after Ivory. So, those cards not having had a "post Ivory" update yet is why they don't have it.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 10 August 2026 06:51 · in reply

Essentially, yes, and the Oracle takes into account their last/most recent Rules era. But also see my previous post, as Warrior wasn't even relevant until Siege.

A player, 10 August 2026 06:51

Its only to understand how to know its a card gain the trait. For printed set or last legal arc.

A player, 10 August 2026 06:52

[ShE] I declare a range attack and the opponent doesn't react/response/interrupt. Now, if I declare using "Pierce the Spirit", can the opponent use "The Turtle's Shell"?

[attachment: ab.png] [attachment: aa.jpg]
A player, 23 August 2026 22:33

Active player has the first opportunity to take an Interrupt to the action. If you are the active player and pass on Interrupts, then your opponent passes, you are both done taking Interrupts to the action.

A player, 23 August 2026 22:34

If you declare the Ranged Attack and Interrupt with Pierce the Spirit, your opponent can Interrupt with Turtle's Shell

A player, 23 August 2026 22:34

Sequencing in this situation really depends on who is the active player

A player, 23 August 2026 22:49 · in reply

So, you can interrupt and interrupt?

A player, 23 August 2026 22:49

No

A player, 23 August 2026 22:49 · in reply

If I interrupt with Pierce the Spirit, the opponent would interrupt an interrupt with The Turtle's Shell

A player, 23 August 2026 22:50

No, Turtle’s Shell would be Interrupting the original action that created the Ranged Attack

A player, 23 August 2026 22:51

Hmmm... that's weird since the last action is an interrupt... the opponent then would be bypassing the interrupt and targeting the previous action? I feel something is wrong there...

A player, 23 August 2026 22:56

When you announce an action (for this example, let's say it a Battle action), there is an Interrupt window. Both players, starting with the active player, have the opportunity to take Interrupts to the Battle action or pass. Once both players pass on Interrupts, the Battle action resolves

A player, 24 August 2026 00:31

The thing is that if the active player interrupts, the opponent will end up interrupting an interrupt... unless you imagine that in that specific scenario the opponent is allowed to bypass the interrupt of the active player

A player, 24 August 2026 00:37

The other player is not Interrupting the Interrupt, they are Interrupting the Battle action

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 24 August 2026 01:21 · in reply

is correct with all of the previous replies. Sequence goes:

Announce RA action Pay Costs Choose targets Interrupt Step -->Pass -->Pierce is played and resolves -->Turtle is played and resolves -->Pass -->Pass RA action's effects resolve (but RA is negated by Turtle)

A player, 24 August 2026 01:25 · in reply

I get that... however, what I'm trying to visualize is how that works with the rule that says that you cannot interrupt an interrupt. When you use pierce the spirit, you are interrupting the ra... if the opponent uses Turtle Shell, then he is either interrupting and interrupt or bypassing the first interrupt (resulting in two parallel interrupts targeting the original ra)... is that right?

A player, 24 August 2026 01:33

Closer to the latter, though the Interrupts aren’t quite “in parallel.” Both Interrupts are resolving to the original Ranged Attack, and resolve one at a time. Pierce the Spirit would complete, then Turtle’s Shell afterwards

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 24 August 2026 01:34 · in reply

You can play any number of Interrupts to a single action, in a back and forth sequence, until both players pass, as illustrated above.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 26 August 2026 00:48 · in reply

Right. The reason it doesn't target "a Magistrate at Wakui's battlefield" is because it can't; no battlefields exist when the targeting happens.
