What about Kolat Master? Can I control them if they are not aligned to my clan?
[Hidden Emperor] [Jade]
Ninjas with another clan alignment like Shoshuro Nishiko will also have Dark Path discount?

[Hidden Emperor] [Jade]
Ninjas with another clan alignment like Shoshuro Nishiko will also have Dark Path discount?
Yes. Just like Toturi's Army or Monk Personalities with another Clan Alignment out of their respective Strongholds.
[Samurai] 1) Can Battle Actions on Regions only be used at the Province the region is attached to ? e.g. https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=6573 2) https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=1399 : Is it mandatory to target if there are legal targets ? For Example do i have to target a personality from my opponent if i don't have one ?
1. No. You may use Region actions regardless of the Province to which they are attached unless they say otherwise.
2. It does not target, but yes, you do have to choose a Personality, even if the only available ones are your opponents'.
[Imperial]
Can I copy Matsu Tsuko using an Egg of P’an Ku if I’m not a Lion player?
Does the same apply to Bayushi Yojiro’s restriction if I’m not a 6-4-2 Scorpion player? (Personally I think so)
What about Kolat Master? Can I control them if they are not aligned to my clan?
1. Egg can copy them. Egg makes a copy that doesn't enter play; it just becomes a copy after already being in play, so the restrictions aren't ever checked.
2. No. The restrictions against control will make Kolat Master fail if you don't meet them.
Sidenote: Did you misread Yojiro? He won't join one particular Stronghold. Anyone else can buy/control him freely.
I think so haha I just saw ‘will not join’ and included it in the question
[OBH] if a card permanently reduces the force or province strength to zero does a bonus do anything? Like if I play outer walls is province strength still zero or does it just have a base strength of zero?
Yes, a bonus will do something. A permanent reduction to 0 is equivalent to giving a penalty equal to current (such that current - itself = 0) for an "until end of game" duration. Further bonuses or penalties will adjust the math further for their own durations.
[Celestial] iron will vs Knife in the darkness. IW wins over KitD?
It's a "tie"? 😛 Knife will still move them, but it won't bow them.
Then, move but not bow
Yes.

Hello.
My courtier equipped with a blade of penance duels and wins against a dishonored personality.
Do I gain the 4 honor and then dishonor my courtier? Or do I become dishonored and immediatly become re-honored?
Or is this a matter of I get to choose because of it happens simultaneously?
I feel like some information may be missing from this question?
Why does it matter that the opposing Personality is dishonorable?
Why would your Personality dishonor during the duel?
Sorry I may have misunderstood Storm Heart this whole time.
"DISHONOR THE WINNER IF THE LOSER IS NOT SHADOWLANDS" ~ this is how I win since I am not challenging a shadowlands personality. "Dishonorable personalities cannot refuse" ~ dishonorable personalites can never increase their personal honor over zero unless there is some sort of exception.
Your initial question did not mention Storm Heart.
Oh. Well, that's what happens when you spend the entire weekend drinking mead and wine.
Is this enough context to answer though? I did search for the answer and there were 0 queries about storm heart, which surprised me.
Yeah, I can put it together now. Storm Heart was the missing piece.
You get to choose the order as the active player, as the triggered trait of the Blade and the consequences of the duel from the action's own effects all have the same timing.
[Imperial] if a terrain is destroyed as a battle action, like with the ancient halls of the akodo, is either player allowed to play a new terrain for that battle?
Yes.
Thanks!
(obh) can i use bamboo harversters experienced versions as initial holding? like exp version wich has 3 gc
You may use any experience version of BK and BH but you have to use most recent printing. So in case of BK xp and BH xp you need to use Ivory promos instead of Forgotten Legacy versions. BK xp2 and BH xp2 are untouched and legal in their original versions. And of course you may mix them like BK basic and BH xp2 in same deck.
If this card target a no honor requirement personality (-) i understand can be anyone, dont need to be 5 points lower than your FH
Link doesn't bring up the card properly.
sorry i dont know how to attach an image
this is the card
You need a role
just give name of the card
that one
thanks and sorry again
can i target any personality if its (-) honor requirement no matter whats is my PH
?
"-" HR is considered to be infinitely low, so it will always be greater than 5 below your FH, no matter how low your FH is.
oracle link fixed. wasn't coming up because of my code migration
So, effectively, yes. For the reason I gave above.
thanks, is what i thought
Hmm. When did that change? I thought "-" was considered as nil/null, so wouldn't work for comparison cards like that. It had no value to compare against, basically, as opposed to infinitely low.
Or is the "-" thing just for other types of values?
Not entirely sure when it changed. Just quoting the current CR on the matter. I suppore a player didn't specify if they were asking for Legacy or contemporary. :/
Format tag please.
I think a player was asking for [Samurai]. I hope he can confirm the Format tag.
For me "-" when is compared are equal to 0. ^^U
From Samurai CR:
^^^ @saaam a player Oh, good. My answer was correct for Legacy AND contemporary. Score! 🙂
[Emperor] Hey all! I've been playing a few matches with a friend using the printed decks from the Emperor Gempukku set and we seem to have trouble understanding the ruling on Kalani's Landing fortress card.
We understand the part that it straightens on each phase, but we struggle to see the use (or how to apply) the "Reaction: After an action is announced, target a card (in play): Give it -2 Gold Cost" effect.
I understand that there are some cards that care for gold costs, but I only saw like two in their preconstructed deck, so we are a little confused. Is there anything else we are not seeing?
(Btw if this is not the place for a question such as this, please tell me and I'll move it somewhere else)
Hi.
First edit your question with a rules tag like [Emperor] in the beginning. You explain you play with EE starters but to avoid confusion while answering, a specific edition/format is requires to point out.
Its not weird that L5R starter may lack cards that support Stronghold.
PS. Btw Kalanis Landing was banned during Emperor and became illegal in Emperor legal events.
Its also important to know that during Emperor this Reaction doesnt allow to reduce cost of attachments you Equip with rulebook action.
So, if I understand correctly, the only real use of that Reaction within those starter decks would be to alter the costs of your rival's cards in order to mess with them?
Yep. Rival's or yours - depends on wording and effects.
Cool then! I assume this effect does not reduce the cost of anything in your provinces, right? That sounds like it would be too broken
Good card would be Hired Killers
It's not in Emperor.
Correct. Note the reminder text says it already has to be in play.
Using an example of a card that would benefit from the SH
Right then. Thanks! May I ask then why was it banned then? I'm guessing the "Straighten each phase" part, but this follow-up is more out of curiosity than anything else
Yes, or Ruthless Advance - but both arent EE legal.
Basically free 4g every phase
Yeah, thought as much, but a quick glance at the rules when we were playing the match left us doubting. Thanks again!
OP was asking about morę about Reaction - when to use it.
They also asked why it was banned.
Ah, my fault. Yep. 🙂
Yeah, the reaction issue was solved thanks to you all!
also
Hunh. Neat.
Learned something new.
That's what I get for getting out half-way through Gold.
thanks again, i was asking for Samurai format. Regards
by the way, where is possible to check every single card banned in every format? Thanks
You can search for Banned cards on Oracle using
Advanced search
Which can be different from banned cards used in Sun and Moon tournaments, by the way.
Usually there's more banned here, but I speak more on the OBH format. I haven't meaningfully checked the other formats and matched the banlists between the two.

Hello. If I have a shadowlands Samurai and I play "for the empire" can I..
1. Target either a shadowlands or samurai personality? 2. If I win can I choose to either gain 1 personal honor and 3 honor or 1+f/+1c?
I say OBH primarily because that's what I care about the most, but to prevent having to ask about other sets, is there a reason why this would not be universal for every legality for this card?
Thank you!
1+2. Yes.
[SAMURAI]
Hello. During battle resolution if I have 6 dishonorable people in my army with more force than my opponent and during battle resolution there is one opposing card , would I rehonor all of my personalities, or just one personality?
All
I wasn't willing to stop a match because I assumed all personalities would be rehonored but my opponent said it would only one card would be rehonored. I never played Samurai except very briefly during the end of Samurai.
Hmm...
From SE rulebook
OK. I never heard of the rehonoring rule that was described in the match of only one card per destroyed card. Oh well.
Because of split honor gains.
Ahh well, my opponent said they played all throughout Samurai but I guess this issue never came up.
[OBH]: When i play with "Omoni Sensei", do created Non-Goblin Personalities from Strategies also cost 2 more gold to play, e.g. "Through the Breach" ?
I think that with TtB you create a guy. So theres a cost of action only.
Created guys arent Recruited.
ok, thanks 👍
But for other players effects they have 2GC.
But @Brook Cunningham needs to confirm this.
Yeah, we just had a realization lately that Diamond Era cost reductions are persistent, not just at purchase, so I had to change some cards to reflect this
However, looking just now, Omoni Sensei was already correct. Oracle text reads, "Non-Goblin Personalities you own in and out of play have +2 Gold Cost."
👍
[OBH] Can i play these guys for 2g discount when using that SH? They are both Naga according to their keywords...
Yes.
Great 😀 ... thanks 👍
[OBH]
Hello. My opponent is at -37 honor using these strongholds. I play no mercy. I believe each of them would be eliminated because they are not losing the game to dishonor, they are losing the game due to a card trait. Please advise if this is correct.
Correct.
[OBH]
Hello. Sorry if this has been answered but I couldn't find it.
I use Aramasu's Legacy/Aramasu's Pride to create additional attack phase. I assign at two battles and use Broad Front. If I have double my opponent's province strength +1, can I destroy two provinces by overriding the restrictions on the strongholds? 2. Do I need to be opposed to destroy these provinces?
Separate question but similar situation. If I use Aramasu's Legacy/Aramasu's Pride to create additional attacks. 1. Can I destroy a province using the card "War" if I am unopposed? 2. Pretty sure the answer is "no," but since I'm here...Can I destroy an unopposed province using the card "Pointless Sacrifice?"
Broad front dont override the SH, you can not destroy provinces in resolution. Broad front can be played without opposing army. And if a card allow you to destroy a province out of resolution can be played

Hello. I am using stronghold City Of Remembrance. I have a Black Pearl EXPERIENCED in play and Natsumi EXP (10 gc) in the discard pile. If I use Black Pearl EXP ability, what is the total discount to The Natsume EXP in my discard pile?
EDITED: It would be -8 total; -4 from the Pearl, -2 from the Stronghold, -2 for Clan Discount.
And -2gc clan reduction?
Probably! Oops. I've been so immersed in Onyx+, I've forgotten that. It doesn't just apply in the Dynasty, does it?
I appreciate your ability to navigate and bounce around all these rules. I'm barely able to keep up with just OBH.
I try! I don't have the OBH Rules themselves handy at the moment, but the Clan Discount additional -2 would probably bring the Dragon down further for -8 altogether, as long as there's no stipulation that it only applies at certain times, which I cannot recall off-hand at the moment.
From emperor rulebook
Thanks! a player , intial reply EDITED.

Hello. Cross-posting this from the ORACLE OF THE VOID discord...
There was a lengthy discussion and I think the final answer was made but it doesn't seem confirmed.
[obh]
Found it. I knew there was duel that doesn't discuss what happens to the loser. By default, any duel that doesn't state what happens to the loser used to be that the loser is destroyed. Is that the case here?
I believe since Samurai edition, duels have no default effect. If the duel does not define what happens to the winner or loser, nothing happens.
+1

Hello. Only asking because it feels like a fever dream...
I can use this card unopposed to give my personality +3F because the only constraint is "BATTLE?" Like one of the best unopposed for pumps is just sitting there this whole time?
OBH wording: https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=8273
Also even in it's time (Lotus/Samurai) you need to have target to play it. So someone need to have -4F penalty first.
Oh ok. Going back and forth between ORACLE and SUN AND MOON.
The card saids target, its not an effect you can skip. Target must be chosen in order to play a card (if I remember right)
As i wrote above, even when this card was printed you had to target for -4F. Oracle digital MRP is just to fit modern wording. But effect is same.
You could target one of your personalities (say one with 0F) to give -4F, though making it still an unopposed +3F gain
Also worth mentioning, because it seems OP may have missed it, all the subsequent effects after the -4F are also contingent upon the initial target being Shadowlands.
You could still do it just got to make sure that your targeted guy is Shadowlands
[ShE] : Just to get this right with the banishing aspect of this card... does it only refer to the courage interrupt or can it also be used when banishing the card for a legacy action... i did not finding anything about banishing a card when using it in a courage interrupt, there is only discarding mentioned
The "for it", and thus everything after, means only for the Courage ability.
Banishing for Courage is an effect of a Crab Sensei, IIRC. Ah... yep, Masatari.
Ah, ok, that would have been my second question about what effect banishes a card in that courage context... thanks 👍
[ShE]: If i have both cards in play and want to use the SH Battle-Ability on him, can i do that ? He would not gain SL because of his trait, but the rest should work ?
Yes. The remaining effects are not dependent on the first happening. If they were, they would be linked by the word "to" or otherwise be explicitly conditional.

RE: KEEPER OF AIR (or any of the other four keepers) can I put 0 rings into my hand to search my deck for a respective ring?
2. If I'm using Rosoku sensei, may I put it into my hand for any of the Keepers entering play?
1. Yes, but only if you contol 0.
2. Given the above answer... don't. 😉 (Also, Rosoku is only a Ring for actions, not traits.)
[obh]
Compassion of the unicorn. I target my performing personality to straighten a unit. Is the unit that straightens also performing?
No
[obh]
Is (SERENITY IN AIR) considered a battle action that I can retrieve via (The Ways of Sensei Wu)?
Are Allegiance to the Emperor/Shogun/Dark Lord considered Battle Actions that can be retrieved?
1. Yes, by a technicality.
2. No, no, no.
