[OBH] Sorry if this has been answered. I tried searching for uniqueness, even in quotes "uniqueness," which usually works, but Discord search kept pulling up Unique instead getting 353 results over 15 pages.
Anyway.
Can I have have Bayushi Kaukatsu, Bayushi Kaukatsu exp, Bayushi Kaukatsu EXP 2, and Bayushi Kaukatsu EXP 3 all in play at the same time? Once upon a time I learned that you can only have one Unique personality in play regardless of EXP level, and it never really mattered because it happened so rarely in the block formats, but in Legacy its more of a thing.
I see Deck Restriction 2: C, but I'd rather ask than be wrong.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 1 June 2026 22:31 · in reply
No. You can only have 1 copy in play by title, regardless of Exp level.

I think you mean "ignoring restrictions"? Ignoring entering-play-effects doesn't get around "Unique". I'm not 100% sure ignoring restrictions can get around it either (without doing some research I don't have time for right now), but definitely not what you said.

[OBH]Is proclaim action that can be cancelled or negated by OAS?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 2 June 2026 17:24 · in reply
Nope. OAS only negates Honor gains during the action until it resolves. Proclaim as an Interrupt in OBH sets up a delayed effect that causes a gain well after the action resolves.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 2 June 2026 17:30 · in reply
However, you may be able to negate the Proclaim gain by Reacting to the announcement of the Recruit action itself, not the Proclaim Interrupt, BUT, the taker of that Recruit action could then simply choose not to use the Proclaim Interrupt. So, OAS is generally not going to work to full effectiveness or at all.

@Brook Cunningham another question. If miroki's ability is canceled with the time is not right, is the cost of her death canceled? or she does dies?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 2 June 2026 17:41
Right. In contemporary and OBH Rules, there's no concept of "cancel" (which used to ignore costs) as the Oracle wording shows, and Miroki's Oracle text is still Emperor-formatted, so her destruction is still a cost.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 2 June 2026 17:43
Don't get me started about how if Miroki were updated to Ivory templating, her destruction wouldn't be a cost because Ivory got rid of all costs that were not (bow icon) or (Gold). Oops, I said it anyway. 🙁

You as the active player have the first opportunity to React to a given trigger. Avoid and Dharma have the same trigger, so you play Avoid Fate, it resolves, shuffling the Event back into your deck, and now there is no more trigger for your opponent to React to with Dharma. The End.

Does Poisoned Weapon target the opponent, thus cancelable by Norikazu's ability?
My personal take is yes-- while the word 'target' isn't there, it clearly points to who gets the Chi penalty.
Like Kachiko's ability: Bow to put a -1C seduction token on any Personality. Or Aramoro's ability to bow to force the discard of a dynasty card from any one Province in play. Doesn't say 'target' but clearly has one, in Poisoned Weapon's case; the opponent in the duel.
Sorry for saying my take, I would like to exercise my rules understanding.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 3 June 2026 16:15 · in reply
It actually doesn't target, because there is no choice in who/what it affects. Implicit targeting is defined by there being the need to choose what the effect affects.
Does it allow me to use limited action to put the Ring of the Void into play from my discard pile? Ring of the Void says: Limited: Play if you have two or fewer Rings in play. Discard your hand.
kempy_nezumi (not official), 4 June 2026 21:08 · in reply
I thought you may use only Ring's trait to be put into play, but how this Strongholds allow to play RoV ability from discard? RoV isnt played from trait, it's put into play by its own ability.
kempy_nezumi (not official), 4 June 2026 21:10
RoV is only MRP ring that requires it's own ability to be put into play.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 4 June 2026 21:15 · in reply
The Stronghold trait doesn't specify how the Ring must be put into play, whether by trait or ability, it just says you can put them in from your discard.
Four of their traits put them into play, one of their abilities does. You can do any of these five things from your discard pile.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 4 June 2026 21:17 · in reply
Changing Paths is an example of an effect that is too specific to work with MRP RoV.

I think it's the one dated 2003 and/or 2006? It's not explicitly titled "Gold".
Shinjo Shono has the follower. First, He tries to assign but the follower discard a card with a too high focus, so Shono cannot assign this turn, OK. Later in a battle action segment: Shinjo Shono performs his own moving battle action: "Battle: Even if Shono has been in an attacking army during battle resolution this phase: Move him to the current battlefield."
Should the follower discard 1 o 2 cards? I would say 2 because one is because of performing the action and the other because of the move effect. Am I right ?
First Case: I am playing against that stronghold and I have only 1 card in hand. I want to play that card which will target any of my opponent's personalities. The Razor's Edge Dojo makes me discard a card but I have no more in my hand. As I cannot discard, does it cancel my action?
Second Case: I have no card in hand Can I use an action from one of my cards in play which will target any of my opponent's personalities? As I cannot discard, does it cancel my action?
Thanks in advance!
kempy_nezumi (not official), 5 June 2026 08:17 · in reply
Yeah, it looks like you are right as Follower's trait triggers twice.
Thanks Kempy, my doubt is a timing question. Isn't it the same timing that determine the "move" and "performing" that kind of actions? If yes, can the card trigger twice at the same time?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 5 June 2026 10:00 · in reply
It's not quite the same timing. Before the effects resolve at all is before, and a separate trigger from, before the card moves, even if movement is the only effect of the action.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 5 June 2026 10:02 · in reply
In both cases, you can't announce those actions at all, knowing that you cannot fulfill the added condition of Razor's Edge Dojo.

province destruction forces the discarding of the card in the province, therefore if it's a Personality, Rani Sensei turns it into a dead one

[Imperial] Test of might compares force instead of chi but otherwise says to treat it as a normal duel. Does this mean focusing applies a force bonus or does it apply a chi bonus as normal?
saaam (not official), 5 June 2026 18:40
For the duration of the duel, when you focus, it adds to the stat used, which is Force in this case.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 5 June 2026 18:41 · in reply
was incorrect. Cards moving to the discard pile because the Province they were in or attached to is not considered "discarding" the card (Comprehensive Rules page 23), so Rani does not make them dead.
[ShE] What happens if my opponent use Kano's Tactical Engage and then I use Sneak Attack as the attacker? Who does get the first opportunity to take a battle action?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 5 June 2026 18:54 · in reply
You do. Only one person gets to take the first action. The Rulebook says the Defender does. Then, Kano's effect resolves and says he does, which likely doesn't change anything if your described scenario is 2-player, then your effect resolves and changes who does to you.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 5 June 2026 18:55
If you played Sneak first, and then Kano took his action after, he would get the first action, and your Sneak would have been undone and wasted.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 7 June 2026 15:41
"4. Cards which affect Followers do not affect Ancestors..." (though it seems more like Hoshi's trait affects him) "...a Personality with only an Ancestor attached is not considered to have a Follower attached." (that may provide a better argument for a loophole, but again, it seems not completely clear if it's applicable)
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 7 June 2026 17:24 · in reply
I just looked at the SCC Rulebook. You might try the Jade Comprehensive?
saaam (not official), 7 June 2026 18:00
I'm leaning toward Togashi Hoshi not being allowed to attach Ancestors back in Clan Wars era.
saaam (not official), 7 June 2026 18:00
Checked various editions of accumulated rulings, and some of the rulebooks, and it consistently says that they're a special kind of Follower, just don't get affected by cards that affect Followers once attached.
saaam (not official), 7 June 2026 18:00
Which makes me think that during attachment, "No Followers" would prevent them for being attached.
Yeah… a special kind of Follower is a Follower and Hoshi can’t have Followers
A player, 9 June 2026 14:14
(OBH) Hey
I would need a confirmation about the Destined Keyword and the Reaction that allow to attach an ancestor when a personality enters play:
Destined: After your card with the Destined keyword enters play, draw a Fate card
Ancestral Guidance - Repeatable Reaction, [ Gold Coin]: After one of your Personalities enters play, following all restrictions, attach a target Ancestor from your hand to him paying all costs.
I think I can resolve the Destined Keyword to draw a card and then I can use the Ancestral Guidance reaction to put the card I've just drawn if it is ancestor which can be attached to the personality.
{obh} With Sanado, specifies ninja units for his ability to trigger
My question is, what makes a unit ninja? All the cards must be ninja, even ancestors, items and tokens?
saaam (not official), 10 June 2026 06:45
Generally just the Personality and any Followers, including token Followers.
saaam (not official), 10 June 2026 06:46
Ancestors stopped being counted as Followers once attached. And Items never counted as anything, and were exempt, just like Spells.
saaam (not official), 10 June 2026 06:46

(Samurai) I need Naval Invasion clarifications please.
From the Samurai Rulebook: The Naval keyword allows you to take the following action available to all players: Reaction: If you are the Attacker and your current army has more Naval cards than the opposing side, once per battle after engaging: You have the first opportunity to take a Battle action, which must be performed by a target Naval Personality or one of his Naval Followers.
I understand that if an action is performed by more than 1 personalities, even if only one of them is "Naval", the battle action can be taken through the Samurai version of the "Naval Invastion".
Let me build a deck and I'll let you know later how it goes hahahaha
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 16 June 2026 15:27
But yes, Naval doesn't specify they have to be the sole performer, so a Naval guy and another can perform that as a Naval action in SE, as long as you're attacking and outnumbering any potential Naval defenders.

I think its individual reduction, you can attach 2 weapon with -4gc for each. As I understand the cards to obtain a -8gc one of them must says something like when a personality attaches a weapon reduce its cost by 4. But its mybopinion
That seems likely given the response to Plains of the Maiden+Tadaji sensei, but you never know unless you ask. This could finally allow Spider MONKSAI to be playable in OBH.

OBH: Can anyone confirm please that we have not to pay to overlay any experienced version over a less experienced personality please? That is what says the 20th Festival advance rulebook on page 33.
"You don't have to pay the cost difference between the more experienced version and the lesser experienced one. The rule about cost difference is present in Celestial Edition but removed from Emperor Edition onwards"
Thanks in advance
kempy_nezumi (not official), 25 June 2026 06:51
Yes, overlaying is for free in OBH
A player, 25 June 2026 06:54
Thanks Kempy, we are currently playing the tournament pending game
Until Celestial Edition you had to pay the difference if the two versions were no consecutive and you kept abilities of all overlayed versions. Since Emperor, you lose the less experienced version but you don't have to pay any gold cost
I play Kolat Instigator on a personality owned by my opponent.
Question 1: will O-Ushi Sensei change the duel to a duel of Force? Question 2: Does the opponent need to discard 1 or more cards? ( if he has any cards in his hand) Question 3: If I react with Kaui Sugimoto and my opponent choose to bow a personalities, Can I still use the Hida Benjiro reaction to kill that personality first so that he can choose a different target to bow?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 26 June 2026 11:42
1. No. She only affects other players' cards. KI is yours.
2. He must discard 1 for the Stronghold. Kuon XP4 will actually break KI, as he adds a new cost to the targeting, which the opponent can simply choose not to pay and have KI fail.
3. Sugimoto adds a cost to YOU because it's your action, not the opponent. Benjiro also cannot React at all, because again, it's your action, not the other player's.

Does 'Crushing Attack' count the force of bowed personalities in armies?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 26 June 2026 15:13 · in reply
Yes. Per a change in the most recent Ivory/20F Rules, army Force only doesn't count bowed cards during resolution. At all other times, bowed status is not considered.
So Clumsy Ambush is badly affected too. https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=1424 If I control 2 units in the battle and the opposing army has any one unbowed unit and a bowed Hida Kuon, my opponent can move home Hida Kuon and nothing else happens for my battle action resolution.
Am I right?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 26 June 2026 17:06 · in reply
Yes, but Clumsy might have always worked that way? Or worked that way for longer at least? The Rule change I mentioned is for calculating army Force, not unit Force; Clumsy only cares about the latter. I'm not sure off the top of my head if unit Force calculation changed at the same time?
I only remember that in some time in Lotus, a bowed Unit had no force 😉 So Clumsy Ambush was able to send home any bowed Units chosen by their controller

Temple of Death EXP.
I have chagatai EXP 4 bowed after using his ability to move into an unopposed battle. Can I use Temple of Death EXP Battle/Open ability by targeting an unbowed shugenja at another battle or at home to straighten Chagatai?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 27 June 2026 12:25 · in reply
No. Choosing performers is governed by the Rule of Location in the same way normal targeting is.

I have 'A Clan United' in hand. I have Moto Chen and Akasha in play. Can I play 'A Clan United'?
A player, 28 June 2026 07:09
Are cards like Otaku and Ide considered to have family names to play off A.C.U.?
A player, 28 June 2026 07:14
EDIT : Added card images to show I'm talking about the actual personalites "OTAKU" and "IDE"
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 June 2026 11:13 · in reply
1. Akasha has no Family name, so no.
2. Yes. Otaku and Ide are Family names, so even though they are, story-wise, the only and chosen names of those characters, mechanically speaking, those Personalities only have Family names.

The Event 'Diplomacy Talks' goes off. If I discard the Imperial Favor for Underhand of the Emperor, my opponent has the option to declare or be dishonored. If my opponent declares an attack, who loses a province to Diplomacy talks? Me for creating the condition of the declaration, or my opponent for actually declaring?
Follow-UP: I play Spiritual Manipulation or win the duel with Priestly Feud. Whom gets their province destroyed from Diplomacy Talks?
I dont know an extensive list of family names outside the rpg. But if a personality have a clan alignment the title of the card is usually family name + name.
Oh I know...but I'm thinking about "I COME FROM THE ANCIENT FAMILY OF 'TETSUO' AND WE ARE A CLAN UNITED." I'm sure most of us know the difference between Momiji and Daigotsu, but what is the technical rules difference? One is a family name and one isn't but without a list, what are the actual family names?
A player, 28 June 2026 14:24
Without a ruling there is no difference between the Thunder and Fire . (Thunder is not an element for example.)

(obh) the false rings (fudo) count as elemental rings? For meeting the keepers for example
the term elemental is an remnant from older times, it is now just Ring. Fudo/Dark rings do not count for enlightenment, because they say so on the card, but for all other ring purposes they do.
A player, 28 June 2026 14:54
I know this cause I asked this previously 😉
kempy_nezumi (not official), 28 June 2026 14:56
MRP of Meeting the Keepers requires any Ring to be bowed.
A player, 28 June 2026 15:00
The cases where the text refers to 'the' ring of air/earth/fire/water/the void do however refer to the one and only true ring of that element.

(obh) with unmaker's shadow, do I lose honor from the action if I play with The Dark Path of Shadow?
No, because the action is "printed" on the Ninja Personality, which is a Ninja card, and cannot cause you an honour loss.

I could have sworn this question was asked, but I don't see it.
I have Deadly Ground/Night Battle in my discard pile. I use Unshakable/Akodo Sadahige to play the terrain from my discard pile. What happens to deadly ground/night battle? What is the gamestate at this point?
Same situation and scenario with Unfamiliar Ground/Steep Slopes. Please advise.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 30 June 2026 21:42 · in reply
Deadly Ground and Night Battle will do nothing, because Unshakable/Sadahige remove them and they have to be/stay in play to do anything.
Unfamiliar Ground and Steep Slope will do their thing, then be removed by Unshakable/Sadahige, and therefore their thing cannot be undone, because only "destroying" them undoes it.
