Yeah I knew about the cost reduction being unavailable I just guess I missed the part about the honor gain

SHE Kanpeki wind: If I have the favor. My entire army is bowed at the location, Can I target my own personality and straighten him even though he is already at the battlefield?

[Obh] what happens If I use The Shogun's Right Hand with two copys of the target personality in play? Its too late and nothing happens to the copys in play and only prevents to new copys to enter play?

Singular is only checked when a card is entering play or is being gained control

[Jade] if you cast The Phoenix is Reborn after Kolat Duplicate hits a personality, does that mean the next time said personality comes back into the dynasty reveal, it’s no longer zero cost?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 3 May 2026 01:57 · in reply

Yes. None of the affected cards are zero cost or unable to be Proclaimed any longer.

Looking at the current Oracle wording of, and Archived Rulings pertaining to, TPiR, that card is... pretty messed up, unfortunately. It is not currently worded how it's supposed to work, and its contemporary rulings also contradict how effects are currently defined, so straightening all that out could be kind of messy.

But my ruling about its interaction with Kolat Duplicate is correct.

[Obh] daidoji Yuki exp gets the first action defending against naval/sneak?

A player, 3 May 2026 07:14
[attachment: image0.jpg]
A player, 3 May 2026 07:15

I believe the order of reactions would matter there.

A player, 3 May 2026 07:17

Sneak and naval are engage actions that delay the effects to get the first action until engage phase ends. Then you react with Yuki. I think that both effects are happens at the same time and the active player decides the order

A player, 3 May 2026 07:18

[ShE] Can a player targeted by Angosu discard a card from their Province instead of from hand? It doesn't actually specify.

A player, 3 May 2026 08:43 · in reply

that's normally the case, but as long as an action has the 'x' keyword it's an 'x' action

A player, 3 May 2026 08:48 · in reply

Yuki’s reaction is after engaging so naval/sneak has already resolved. So his reaction overrides naval/sneak 1st opportunity.

A player, 3 May 2026 09:05

from OBH primer document

A player, 3 May 2026 09:16

Ok, the text needs an update in Oracle as is the same as the card. Then, both effects happens at the same time and the active players decides, right?

A player, 3 May 2026 10:25

unfortunately, i don't see that happening - this is an OBH-specific ruling. don't forget, the Oracle is also used for other formats like EE strict/extended (where Yuki is from and engage doesn't exist yet)

as for the effects, the last action taken would be the one that the game will see true. there's no timing conflicts to be resolved for the need of an active player to make a choice.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 3 May 2026 10:27 · in reply

"Discard a card" means from hand by default unless otherwise specified.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 7 May 2026 01:14 · in reply

Correct. Kachiko's action only targets the Shugenja when you initially use it, then creates an initial effect as well as ongoing effects that persist while she remains bowed.

It doesn't. It only restricts cards focused from your hand (or Focus Pool, if playing Lotus Edition Rules). I have changed its text in the Oracle to refect this, based on similar previous questions and rulings I have made in the recent past regarding Armor of the Golden Samurai and Bo Stick (which also received similar clarifying wording in the Oracle, concurrent with those previous rulings).

@Brook Cunningham

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 8 May 2026 22:41 · in reply

Yes, you must leave it face-up and no, it does not go face-down again at the turn's end. Ongoing effects stop at the end of the turn, but a card going face-up is an instant effect, like bowing, or destruction, or dishonor, which cannot be undone except by a new effect.

Celestial Road has a very rare cost of discarding Personality from play, not destroying it.

PS. Also in result it may create really rare situation when you have dishonored discarded (not dead) card in discard pile.

Answers on: At Any Cost
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 10 May 2026 00:29 · in reply

It would really depend on the card's text to be sure. In the case of At Any Cost, it doesn't matter at all. All that matters is that the performer is dead and a Samurai; where and when they died is irrelevant.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 10 May 2026 06:15 · in reply

Its more a question about "no second battle" rule.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 10 May 2026 09:16

"no second battle rule" is about only movement. So, as attacker, you may bring into play at other batlefield a dead personality that was destroyed in battle resolution in any other previous battles same battle phase.

How does this region from Gold work please ? https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=6365

May I put an event I've just resolved under my dinasty deck and it will be resolved once more when it show-up in my provinces? May I put a region under my deck if it is discarded because it cannot enter play (as there is too many regions attached to this province)?

Thanks in advance!

kempy_nezumi (not official), 18 May 2026 18:31 · in reply

I think that Oracle wording is clear: "Reaction: Before a card enters the discard pile from this Province, put in at the bottom of your Dynasty deck instead."

So yes and yes

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 21 May 2026 14:17 · in reply

No. The Focus Effect is not an action.

A player, 21 May 2026 14:17 · in reply

SorryI mean the action

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 21 May 2026 14:19 · in reply

I can't easily look it up right now, but I believe you can't target cards out of play unless it specifically says you can, so the VtD action can't target a discarded Oni.

A player, 21 May 2026 14:22 · in reply

It specifically says target cards in discard piles to remove from play(/Banish). So that part definitely works. My main question because of the no targeting in discard piles: if the cancel action works as it technically targets a card that targets a card in the discard pile, but refers to a keyword on the card in the discard pile.

A player, 21 May 2026 14:22

Usually actions is that target stuff out of play or other than personalities will specify

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 21 May 2026 14:24 · in reply

You lost me.

A player, 21 May 2026 14:24

The only thing that VtD does is remove a keyword and banish cards from discards

A player, 21 May 2026 14:24

Talking about the action

A player, 21 May 2026 14:25

So the only interaction with the discard is banish cards

A player, 21 May 2026 14:25 · in reply

So Victory through Deference's Open/Battle action targets 3 cards in discard piles. If one of the cards targeted is an Oni, can Undetectable Enemy cancel it or is it prevented from doing so, because the Oni is in the discard pile?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 21 May 2026 14:26

Does it help to point out that the banished cards in the action are not targeted?

What makes a card a “Ninja Card” in Legacy OBH? The Dark Path of Shadow reduces by 2 gold non-personality Ninja Cards and Ninja Strategy cards. Old cards like Han-Kyu only attached to ninja. [OBH] "recruit" question. Can I consider that all effects saying "bring a personality into play" actually are "recruit effect" or should I check the Oracle wording card by card to find out?

For instance: Your Clan Needs You!: I would understand it is a recruit action but I prefer to double-check here https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=9687

A Cleansing Death: It is explicitaly a recruit action, so no doubts here https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=12

Thanks in advance, Regards, Rémi.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 21 May 2026 18:29 · in reply

Well, unfortunately, the Oracle is a bit inconsistent/incomplete. All the card wordings are modernized up to at least Emperor Edition, but Recruiting was introduced in Ivory, and only some cards are aligned to that Ruleset.

However, if you're specifically wondering if a bringing into play effect requires or waives payment, I believe they should all be explicit in the latter case.

A player, 21 May 2026 18:34 · in reply

In OBH you should follow Oracle wording that allows to use LS for any action, including Recruit or Equip BUT in our online OBH events we follow additional errata: (link)

There's some in inconsistency in Oracle as LS and Aramasu's Vigilance have similiar printed abilities, but work in different way. So in our online OBH i issued LS errata. But eg Phillipin guys play with original LS wording so card is popular there.

Buying Personalities and Holdings is Recruiting and buying attachments is Equipping.

Thanks a lot, the truth is that I was nos looking for ideas to break Sneak Attack. Anyway, I'll have a look at those cards, thanks!

-> I was only thinking about the usefullness of Fall on your knees since now you have Engage and Interrupt which didn't exist in Diamonds.

Of you are running tacticians. Sun returns is a good anti sneak and battle action card

[Jade] if you use The Sacred Temple of the Phoenix to produce 7 gold to bring Isawa Osugi into play for full, does net your 4 honor?

A player, 23 May 2026 18:00

(Like using the SH plus another holding for the last gold I mean, like that and a small farm)

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 23 May 2026 18:07 · in reply

No. I believe in contemporary Jade Rules, you could not even buy Osugi with the 7 Gold at all because her trait would also cancel the Gold production, which was considered an "effect" at that time.

A player, 23 May 2026 18:07

Ah okay. I was wondering if that was a possibility- thanks !

saaam (not official), 23 May 2026 23:30

Correct, she would negate the gold production as well:

Will negate the gold as well as the Shadowlands trait if the Sacred Temples of the Phoenix stronghold is bowed to produce 7G to pay for her or for a spell for her. [Card text, DW, 12/11/96]

If I choose Toturi's Army as a faction, and the old version of a personality is TA but the new Reprint version is of a different clan, can I use the old version of the personality?

They're separate cards. Soul of cards are not MRPs. You're only restricted that you can only have 3 total in deck construction.

A player, 24 May 2026 17:25

So you could use 2 of one and 1 of the other

Are winds and sensei considered "cards?"

They're all cards now. Strongholds didn't used to be, but they are now, just with immunity to being destroyed or removed.

SE (samurai):

[Determination] doesn't stop "reducing range attacks"? Does that count as "negating the original range attack effect" ||(RA3 IS RA3 DAMMIT!)|| or "reduce /=/ negate"?

(I.e.= [Outer walls] can still be played; [few against many] CANNOT be played, for example)

Reducing strength is not negation.

[Imperial]

Based on these rulings—

Ikoma Ryozo The Armor of Earth [and Cornered -- jwa] cannot prevent Ryozo from being sent home if the Favor is used on another unit, as it is his own trait sending him home, not the action of the Favor. [DW, email, 5/29/97] [REVERSAL] Something which only negates the effects of the Favor, such as Confusion at Court, will not stop Ryozo from leaving because the Favor still targetted someone. On the other hand, something that completely cancels the Favor action, like A Test of Courage, will stop Ryozo's trait from triggering because a cancelled action isn't considered to have been used. [DW, l5rinfo, 2/13/98]

if Ryozo with AoE himself is targetted by the Favor, it can be cancelled by AoE and not return home?

Also, if A Test of Courage was used on another unit other than Ryozo, Ryozo still won’t return home because a cancelled action is considered to not have been used?

@Brook Cunningham

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 29 May 2026 02:15 · in reply

Contemporarily to Imperial, this is all apparently true, by your own research. However, the concept of "cancelling" being a distinctly different effect from negation was never clearly defined (see Armor of Earth text itself), and "cancelling" was eventually dropped and does not exist in later Rulesets.

[OBH-LEGACY] Two questions.

Can Shosuro Tsuyoshi use his ability outside of battle in response to a limited or open action?

A player, 29 May 2026 08:41

From the 20F advanced rulebook: page 41.

A player, 29 May 2026 08:43

There is no longer a specific mention that the ranged attack must be in battle (although 99% of RA are specifically for battle, this one is a reaction.)

A player, 29 May 2026 08:44

2ND QUESTION... Melee is explicitly mentioned that it can combine with other melee...but there is no such mentioned for Ranged Attacks.

A player, 29 May 2026 08:46

I couldn't find "ranged attack" in OBH rules list. If I have Random personality WITH ranged attack: 4 and an Ashigaru Archers attached with Ranged Attack 2: can they work together to perform ranged attack 6?

A player, 29 May 2026 08:49

This is the closest I came...but I can't find the specific rule that Ranged Attacks must be in battle. Like I said: it almost never comes up because 99% of ranged attacks specifically come from 😜 I mean battle actions.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 29 May 2026 09:19

Definition of "enemy" means it must be on the battlefield.

"enemy" in definition of Ranged/Melee attack.

Also OBH follows 20f Ranged/Melee rules, so you may combine them from cards in same Unit.

in legacy... Shinjo Hayan ... the trait works like shinjo's breath.?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 30 May 2026 07:18

Hayan's trait doesnt allow to break No Second Battle rule if you asking about this. No Second Battle rulebook restriction forbids a Unit that was on Battle Resolution this phase to assign or move in to other Battle as attacker.

Btw please mark your posts with specific tag. There are some various Legacy formats, so we need to be more specific like [OBH]. Cheers!

Edit Edit: I want to get these all in one go...

If my Daigotsu Eiya/Doji Saori EXP/Hoshi Masote EXP: killed an opponent in a previous duel, and their second duel is through Test of Enlightentment can they search for and play Ring of Flame?

If my Daigotsu Eiya/Doji Saori EXP/Hoshi Masote EXP: Killed an opponent in a previous duel, and their second duel is through Demonstration Technique and they draw Ring of Flame, can I immediately play Ring of Flame?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 31 May 2026 16:04 · in reply

No to all of those. "After" in triggered traits and Reaction triggers implicitly means "immediately after", not "any time after". Resolving the effects of winning/losing happen after determining the winner/loser (which is when you would play those Rings), so by the time you draw said Rings from those effects, it's too late to play them.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 31 May 2026 16:16 · in reply

Also, while Ring of Flame has different timing than False Earth and Dark Fire, there's an separate issue which makes the answer also "no":

1. Eiya and Masote's traits are destroying the Personality, not the duel action, so they don't count for Flame.

2. Saori's kill is an action (her own, still not the duel itself), so it does count for Flame, but as explained above, it's triggered and resolved at the "win" point of the duel, which is before you could fetch the Ring off the duel's effects, and so you miss the timing again.
