[OBH] About United, The five targets needs to be in the same battlefield?
Sun and Moon #rules-questions
Messages from the Sun and Moon #rules-questions Discord channel, copied for Oracle of the Void. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings and the rulebooks may differ.
Battle/Open: Choose your five performing non-Shadowlands Personalities, no two of whom share a Clan alignment: Give each of them +4F. Negate their movement home from other players' actions until the turn ends.
If it is battle then yeah it needs to be at the same battlefield.
thanks
[ShE] If during battle my opponent uses Kampeki to harpoon one of my personalities from home to the current battlefield, can I prevent that with Flame's Protection?
Depends. Is the Shugenja Fire and at the current battlefield and Kanpeki is harpooning your samurai? If so, yes. Otherwise, no.
No, Kanpeki is harpooning my Fire Shugenja who is at home. I have no units at the battefield
Now, what would happen if I had one or more units at the current battlefield. Would I be able to use Flame's Protection since I would have presence?
Still no. Rule of Location.
Interrupts are subject to the rule of location. So, if, at the time of the action's announcement, the personality with Flame's Protection isn't at the battlefield, AND the unit they're targeting isn't at the current battlefield, you can't use it.
so, I think FP just doesn't work against Harpooning.
because there's no scenario in which the action works, and FP is online.
I did describe a scenario where it does in my first answer.
is that right?
can't the interrupt only target a samurai at the same location as the Shugenja?
I need to read the card again... dangit
The Interrupt doesn't target the Samurai.
it targets the action that opponent is using yes?
well, it references the action because Interrupts have to reference an action. But there's no targeting.
EDIT: The Interrupt only targets the Fire Spell it destroys to do its negation, nothing else.
so its just that the spell attached to shugenja need to be in exact location as action it interrupts is in?
No. It just needs to be at the current battlefield due to Rule of Location, and so does Flame's Protection to use its own ability, and they both have to be in the same unit because of FP's own text.
ah yeah i mean RoL in the first place now sorry for not being clear with that one thanks
[ShE] I have question about memory of a card if it changes her cost, when card goes back to place where can it be played (for example personality goes back to province or card goes back to hand. does it retains that increased cost or not?
increased cost due to for example invest
Cards lose memory of effects on them when they go both face-down and out of play. A card going to a Province face-up from play or the discard would remember its increased cost, a card going face-down to your hand would not remember.
thanks
but what in case of using word permanently then it remembers until end of game?
dunno what happend with my file with this one Akasha
No. All effects are forgotten when face-down and out of play, including permanent ones.
Invest increases the cost of a card permanently.
If I were to pay the invest cost on a Personality, then put them back into a province, and buy them again, would I be able to pay the invest cost again? And if I did, would they now cost that much more again?
So like, If I buy Ahuja and pay the invest to get a Pearl, and then somehow he gets put back into a Province (don't know a mechanism to do this at the moment), could I buy him with the invest cost again in my next dynasty phase? And if I do, would he cost 9? Or 11?
in my example, he's not going face-down.
so he retains as Brooks first stated in first answer then
hiere
alright... then what does he cost when I want to invest him a second time?
11
out of Akasha i guess You need to pay 9+2
out of other clans 13
and that would still only make 1 Pearl when he enters the second time, right?
yes
Yep.
fascinating.
So, doing that to this guy could make him 5 Chi
Oh, no it wouldn't
because it's a +1C token, which does get removed when he leaves play
Alright... I'll keep an eye out for a scenario where something like that might actually be useful. I know in the Legacy card pool there are ways to return personalities to a Province, but I'm not entirely sure just how easy it is.
[OBH] Question about Events: https://doc.clickup.com/9016365709/d/h/8cpnmmd-536/9a60a4f5d0b7d53/8cpnmmd-576 : Point 3: "a. Events with only a trait in its text box may only resolve during the Events Phase once it is revealed in a province." "e. For Events that have an action designator (Limited, Open, Battle, Dynasty, Engage & Interrupt), they must remain in the province face-up where they are revealed. Once an action from the event resolves, it is discarded and the province it came from is refilled face-down." The e. doesn't specify when and how the Event was revealed. Can abilities on Events with action designator resolve as long as they are face up in a province, regardless of when and how they were revealed? For instance: I reveal Ominous Revelation face up with Borderkeep during Action phase, than I use Ominous Revelation's Open action to search for lets say, Seclusion; than use Seclusion's Open action to search for a personality. This would all be legal?

Yes.
Wow! Thank you for your patience, my old school l5r brain wouldn't accept this!
[OBH] Can you play Fall on your Knees in a Battle without any personality in play at all? Neither the province attacked or home
Yes. Reactions are not restricted by the Rule of Presence.
[OBH] does diplomcy talks react with ambush?
I would say no, because Ambush does not create an Attack Phase, it just starts a battle between two Units.
I agree with Saam. Works with Shiro Matsu as the SH create an additional attack phase
Ambush creates a battlefield not an attack phase.
[OBH] Asahina Nizomi have a repeatable reaction? I dont remember if this card have an errata. https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=509
Oracle text indicates the use limit as Once Per duel, which is effectively Repeatable, since Reactions can only react to the same trigger once. I just decided to make that Rule explicit in the wording, rather than putting Repeatable on it and leaving people to have to know the Rule.
Ok, thanks
Follow up question. Does Nizomi's effect stack?
There is no stated duration for the bonus, so it lasts until the end of the turn.
So you can actually pump Chiyako's chi everytime Nizomi targets her.
Huh...so the old combo wasnt really nerfed
You can Honorable Hostage Chiyako for massive honor gain.
You also need, y'know, duels. And Nizomi doesn't technically target. But otherwise, yes.
Well yes definitely.
Wasn't this the Crane deck that came out of the Kenshinzen house before?
Chiyeko + nizomi + blade of penance/honor and glory + brutal confrontation
That's fair. Interactive.
question for OBH with Oni no Kamu and Kitsu Tombs. If a shugenja bows, when this guy enters play, does the second part that says "your stronghold cannot straighten" its also ignored? or that counts as a separate ongoing effect?
It's a separate continuous trait effect, not a triggered entering-play effect.
[Imperial]
Do I need presence to use Go Master ability
Yes.
Or, at least, that's how we played it back then, but it's been a while.
So I'm about 95% sure.
[OBH] Ancestors (XXX no Shiryo) can be destroyed like a attachment such follower or item? if an action target a card without attachments, ancestors counts as an attachment for this restrictions? (for example, target a personality without attachments, etc)
Attachments
Followers, Ancestors, Items, and Spells are all attachment cards. They normally attach to Personalities in play using the Equip procedure, placing the card under the Personality with the title showing.
So yes.
I ask about ancestors destruction because in diamond you can not destroy it
Ok, need to clarify this. Maybe it's overlooked in OBH cards' types section
In AEG Legacy they can be destroyed.
@Brook Cunningham
But in early Samurai era Legacy document they can't be destroyed. I wonder what happened. "This page was last modified 20:39, 1 June 2007."
Perhaps they are too powerful if you can not destroy them?
the Obsidian Hand legacy rules for Ancestors follow the one from the Jade Hand legacy rules (where there's no citation of the above immunity to destruction)
I honestly forgot if and when there were any errata tied to the clause's removal
I found Celestial era Legacy stuff, and it was removed there as well.
"This page was last modified on 6 August 2008, at 12:36." So this change could happen even during Samurai
for this one - as far as rulings go, we lean towards the most recent one
i just would to know what was reason in Samurai era about such changes. Between June 2007 and April 2008 😉
Maybe it's explained in Tomorrow rulessheet, as latest Ancestor was printed in this Lotus/Samurai expansion.
What's also funny about this rulessheet that Kamokos Avatar has Kami card type. 😉
To be fair, it's weird that you can destroy an ancestor card like: he used to be my great-great-grandfather, well not anymore...
Rout: I sent your unit to home and banish the ghost of your grandfather. Only x1 gold xD
I want to play some ancestors in my OBH deck, but the cost to play is high, bow a personality in OBH is a huge risk
I never considered ancestors to be Ghosts, but like genetics... 🤔
Lots of straighten effects too, the biggest problem is the amount of destruction. I played 2 ancestors in crane dueling last OBH, they worked well enough
They are ghosts, spiritual guidance, in the rpg you must follow some conditions or lost the guidance of the ancestor.
Guess being able to destroy them makes more sense then...
There's 3 ancestors regularly played that are worth that risk.
Hoturi, shinjo and togashi?
Hoturi, Shinjo, Yogo.
[OBH] Undead qualify as human, right? As they don't have the nonhuman trait.
Yes. Every Personality and Follower is human by default without the explicit Nonhuman keyword.
For OBH if Govern the land is used to bring a fortification, can the player choose which province to put it in play? or its not usable for fortifications?
Format tag please
obh
Any Province.
It works like this
just edit your original post. tnx
[OBH] Can you play Walls of Death first or second hability withouth any pressence on the board?
No. Both Interrupt and Battle require Presence.
And both abilities require Presence on the current battlefield.
[OBH] Sorrow's Path: Does 'resolves' mean have resolution or just end?
It means resolves, as in before the Resolution segment.
Does it trigger on battles that end without resolution?
Honestly, difficult to say; I don't have the Rules handy, but from recollection, Sorrow's Path in combination with the Rules might be able to be read either way. There are Rules that triggers that look for a particular "time" within a sequence will still trigger even if nothing happens at that time (such as "Before Focus Effects resolve", even if no Focused have effects or even if no one Focused at all). But from another point of view, SP could be looking for an actual thing happening rather than just be "timed" to Resolution. Have to get back to you on that one.
While looking into it: I have the same question about effects that say after the battle ends (e.g.: Cove of Cursed Blades) and battles that end without resolution.
Much easier. Battles always end.
I want ro remember that Sorrows path is used before the end of the Resolution Segment. If you end without Resolution Segement you can not use the region
Want to...? 😝
or seem to?
Well, also, contemporary Rulings are also perhaps a separate animal to tackle from OBH. Hence why I want to consult the 2OF CRs specific timing exceptions to which I alluded above.
Hida's Guidance takes care of Sorrows since it ends the battle without resolution
I'm sure there is maybe 1 or 2 strategies that do the same thing.
Torrential Rain is the OG classic.
Flattery
[OBH] Couple more region questions: Ikoma Shizuka does this allow attaching regions ignoring the one region per province rule?
No. He would need to have an explicit exception in his effect.
[OBH] Savagery of the Moto 2e ability - Battle: Target a Region you control and a Region attached to the current battlefield's province: Transfer them to each others' provinces until the battle ends. - What happens after the battle if one of the provinces is destroyed.
Which region bites the dust?
please tag your questions
Pretty sure both Regions are gone. The first is destroyed with the Province and therefore can't go back where it belongs, and the other has nowhere to go back to and is likewise discarded. @kempy_nezumi , I don't know if you can dig up a Forum ruling as old as Lotus that might contradict? And while I'm looking at Sorrow's Path later, I'll double check this too, in the EE CR in case it has some finicky Region Rules that aren't in Legacy. OBH's Region Rules are just a straight EE Rulebook copy. 😛
[OBH] Can Fog of War cancel an engage action? When you are the defender for example
Yes, provided the other stipulations are observed.
Edited
There also can't be any attacking units present
Assuming 1v1
1 vs1 yeah
Your edit doesn't change my answer. 😛 It also doesn't clarify much. So, you're the Defender. Is it also your Fog of War? And does the player taking the action have no units at the current battlefield? If yes and yes, then still yes.
Thx
[OBH] regarding Shinbone Pack, it says "Search your Dynasty Deck and then Discard pile for a Shinbone Warrior, and [put it into play]"
Are you allowed to decline to find a Shinbone Warrior in your Dynasty Deck even if you have them in there?
No
@kempy_nezumi is incorrect. The final sentence in the CR under #Search (pg 91/92) indicates, "A player may choose to have a search fail even if he or she is able to find the card searched for."
wow, okay, that makes that card even Worse than I expected it to be.
(and by worse I mean harder to deal with)
Just out of curiosity why would you want a search to fail?
Otomo Sensei
In this case to get a Shinbone Warrior out of your discard pile rather than your deck, because discard pile removal.
Ah, that was added during Emperor. ;/
The player may choose to have a search fail; he or she need not retrieve a suitable card even if found. [ADDED 6 April 2012]
Previously there was rulebook punishment for "failed search". From CE CR:
If a player searches for a particular description of card and does not select any, the search effect fails, with special consequences. For the rest of the game, any of his or her further attempts to search for that description of card will fail, even if a card matching that description re-enters the deck or other searched area.
[Imperial]
Is discarding the Favor to put the sword into play the same as using the Favor? Can I use Confusion at Court so it can't be played?
Contemporarily, yes.
This is in the 2000 Accumulated Rulings under "Imperial Favor"...
...which Kempy just posted as I was typing. 😛
Would the sword go back to your hand then?
Yeah a player the last line here confirms it
Right?
It seems they made such rule in 1996
Different than modern Rules, but yes, you are reading the text correctly.
Just bumping a reminder 😉
Yep, I found it; CR pg 43:
"Some triggers refer to a time point in the game by what normally happens then, using the indefinite plural. These timings do not require that anything happens at that time point. Example: “After Focus Effects resolve in a duel” does not require that any Focus Effects actually resolved. Triggers worded using more definite language, about an actual occurrence rather than the general time point, do require that the occurrence actually happen. Example: “After a Focus Effect resolves in a duel:” requires that a Focus Effect resolved."
So, even though I'm not sure how you'd actually construct an indefinite plural for Sorrow's Path, its wording is definitely the latter, therefore it does not trigger if its battle doesn't resolve.
(Also, I couldn't find anything more in the EE CR about Savagery of Moto, so unless Kempy finds a contradictory forum Ruling, I'm going to stand by both Regions being gone.)
"Before battles at this province resolve...", would be that indefinite plural 😉
Oh yeah. Don't know why I was brain-blocked on that. O.o I guess I was just hung up on the effect triggering in a singular current battle rather than every potential battle.
Glad I could help, makes it feel less one-sided 😜
[EE] Does he also increase the honor requirements of personalities with “-“ in their honor requirements?
Nope.
"-" is not a value which can be incremented or decremented.
[Imperial]
Can Isawa’s Helm cancel an action that is targeting a card attached to the unit and not the personality itself?
[EE] If Kaiu Nakano uses his Tactical Battle action, you can't use on him the Tactical action discarding a card to increase his F, for the remainder of the turn, correct?
yes he used tactical action
(tho wait for guys they know better, and in EE I think it works like that tho I am not that sure cause it may varies depending legality)
Use of tactical battle requires tactician and you can only use one per turn
At least until Emperor
From emperor
Tactical, Tactician: An action wi Tactical keyword may only be performed by a Tactician Personality (see Performing, p. 62). Each Tactician may only perform one Tactical action per turn. All players can take the following Tactical Battle action, known as “Tactical Advan- tage”. Keep in mind that, due to the above rule, it can only be performed by each indi- vidual Tactician once per turn: Tactical Battle: Any number of times per turn, discard a card and choose your per- forming Tactician Personality: Give him a Force bonus equal to the Focus Value of the discarded card.
yes, my interpretation is that I can't do both Tactical Advantage AND Nakano's printed action on him in the same turn. Just wanted confirmation.
[OBH] Does regions count as singular? Like a plague infested región, can i have more than one in play?
[OBH] with the walls of Otosan Uchi, can i have the basic (east Wall for example) and the experienced at the same time in different provinces? Being both unique i have a doubt...
As default - no. You may always check Oracle of the Void to be sure if MRP version is SIngular or not (vide Shinsei's Shrine, but in such case CE15 version isnt considered as MRP)
No.
Unique: A player cannot bring into play or take control of a Unique card if he or she already controls a Unique card with the same title (but see Experienced, p. 31). If a player takes control of a unit with a copy of a Unique attachment he or she already controls, discard the new attachment. The Unique keyword also restricts deck construction. See Deck Build- ing, p. 22.
Ok thx very much guys!
[OBH] May Kyoso no Oni exp3 target and destroy Rosoku Sensei of any player as a cost/effect of its action?
Target a ring is not between colons, I think is not a cost.
The sensei is not a ring or personality
But is a ring for costs and effects
Now if you have have Rosoku sensei you can use him to do the ability on Kyoso
Sorry when I read the question I wasn't looking at you having the Sensei
In Samurai you could eg destroy Kyoso to destroy any Ring in play. So it doesn't matter who controls Rosoku. My question is if such Rosoku is going to be destroyed from Kyoso's ability.
not if an opponent has the sensei
Why?
The ability of the sensei or any card you own applies to the owner not the opponent
now if the sensei had Ring keyword then it would work
?
Rosoku the target part is for the owner of the card to use
You want to say that eg this trait effect only your attacking Personalities? No, it doesnt work this way in L5R.
Rosoku counts as a ring for all effects for all players.
as far as I know in any edition of L5R you can't use any of the opponent abilities or traits from card the own
Nowhere in the card does it says that applies to all players
The trait is active all the time, if a card said :gain 1 honor for every ring in play, Rosoku counts as a Ring
Blood is a blanket effect
Blood is a trait in play that. As Rosoku's text. So sure, you can;t bow your opponents Rosoku as a cost but it still counts as a Ring for an effect for any player.
Mac is writting!
Abilities, yes. Traits, no; they are always global (unless explicitly otherwise).
To use a contemporary example, Air Dragon nonExp prevents targeting by both/either players' RAs Spells or Kiho.
Then, Kyoso eats Rosoku Sensei for breakfast?
I cannot see a reason why not, though there may have been some targeting or destruction immunity for Sensei in Lotus? I'm not sure and don't have LE Rules handy. I don't have OBH Rules handy either, but I believe there is no such immunity added in them? I do know the lack of it was a lingering problem from 20F CR that Onyx Lives supplementary Rules specifically had to add.
around Samurai edition:
I believe in OBH as in 20F Sensei is not Fate card anymore
Anyway where destroyed Sensei go in 20F (original pre-errata SCW Tadaka) and OBH now?
Even if Kyoso no Oni exp2 was released in ToE i haven't found any Kyoso/Rosoku post ;/
You should get Kwek to add some destruction immunity for Sensei in OBH and close the loop. 😛
Even Lotus rulebook says they are not Fate/Dynasty cards
but @Alex Jones ruled they go into discard (what discard? :D)
He also said they are Fate cards with a link to ...?
currently backreading now
Also from Legacy document in Samurai:
@kempy_nezumi - do you happen to have a citation on what is the "Errata'd via internet August 30th, 2006" on Rosoku Sensei?
Thanks. As for Kyoso Exp3 vs Rosoku, I also don't see any reason why the sensei won't be destroyed.
As for Senseis needing to be possibly classified as a fate cardtype, I think the only relevant interaction would be with Temples of the Crow
Except, when destroyed, where would it go?
The deck box? So if the sensei counts as a ring then actions that return it to hand works?
Leaning towards the fate discard pile. Rationale: during the resolution of the action that destroys Rosoku Sensei - it's counted a ring (which is a fate card type).
Also about those 2.
Rosoku Sensei only counts as a ring for actions and effects while it's on play
Oh nice
Also, note Hitomi's Glare RFGs. "Discard from play" meant RFG in Jade.
That's irrelevant. Once it leaves play, it goes to wherever Sensei cards that leave play go.
If Sensei cards are not Fate Cards in the ruleset you're using, they don't go to the discard pile.
The crux of the question was which area of the game would it end up in? As far as rulesets go, the interaction of Kyoso xp3 vs Rosoku Sensei would also exist under Lotus rules (wherein Sensei cards are neither classified as Dynasty or Fate cards).
May difference between ToE and SE ability's text on Kyoso could be important?
As for this one, The Tomb of Sun Tao will put Rosoku Sensei to hand. Yes, Sensei cards do not go into the Dynasty or Fate decks, but the Hand is a different area of the game. While Rosoku Sensei is there, it's also worth remembering that “Discard a card” is short for “Discard a 'Fate card' from your hand.”
The Rosoku Sensei player will need effects from cards like A New Teacher (https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=57) to put their sensei back into play.
ShE - Can this be used in conjunction with playing overwhelmed to keep the opponent from being able to run home?
Yep.
Will that negation make them have to blow people up?
"A" people, but also yes.
Hello @Brook Cunningham what do you think of this one? To add, Warrior Monks has this text
Despite an exhaustive search, I couldn't find any contermporary Rulings or errata/clarifications. So... yeah, given that comparison to Warrior Monks' text, it appears that in Contemporary/[Imperial], Isawa's Helm can only negate effects which specifically target a "unit" (for example, Block Supply Lines). The definition of "targeting a unit" equating to "targeting the Personality" per the Rules came later (though I can't exactly recall when).
[Imperial]
As per the 1998 Accumulated Rulings, you can play Crushing Attack when there is no opposing army, but was later REVERSED in the 2000 version of the rulings.
So for Clan Wars, the 1998 will be followed right?
From 2000 Rulings
As rulings is dated at 13 feb 1999 and that was Jade so you are probably right. You need to ask people who played at this time.
Well, I started playing around Time of the Void and onward. By then we always played with Crushing Attack (and later Flattery) needing opposing units.
Because the opposing army, if empty, had a "nil" Force, not a "0 (zero)" Force.
...
Also this 98 ruling document was dated april 1998, so in late Imperial, right before Jade was released
Yeah, that's the one.
So, ruling dated 5/16/97 is still in 04/98 document. In 02/00 document there reversal ruling dated 2/99. So we may suppose that during whole Imperial you could play Crushing unopposed.
Except we didn't. For years.
Wondering why it took long to reverse it. Or there was no ruling that 'opposed' needs presence
Back then there were tons and tons of rulings reversed, sometimes back and forth. For example, Storms of War and The Dark Path of Shadow.
What were the issues on The Dark Path?
The issues were on Storms of War / Winter Warfare, and the definition of what constitutes a cost vs an effect.
Storms of War was ruled to add a cost, which could not be paid except by bowing a card in the Battle, so if you couldn't pay it, the DPoS' ability would get negated. You could do it an infinite number of times, though, and get DQed. 😄
Ooohhh, I'm gonna have to read on that
[Imperial]
Destruction of the opposing army and the province happens at the same time?
From SCC rulebook:
Awesome thanks, now I remember I think I have a physical rulebook somewhere....
SCC rulebook is in DropBox
[OBH]Interrupt works the same as reaction? Can you play them in combat withouth presence?
No to both questions.
[EE] Can I use the spell equip action in battle followed by the battle action on the spell, acting first with an attacking character with naval keyword?
The scenario was:
My opponent has -19 honor, and I have my last province and has a Pekkle no Oni as defender (with Goshiu exp in play) and my opponent has enough force to break my province. I don't have the time to react with Goshiu to redirect the loss from Pekkle right? Since destruction of personalities and province happens at the same time
Yes, as Battle attaching a Spell to a Shugenja is a performed action
There's no time for honor loss as when Pekkle and Province are destroyed, game is lost.
ShE Question -
I am not sure if this is accurate I don't see anything in the Comprehensive rules for this, but can Rings be banished?
A specific Rule was added to the Onyx/ShE supplement that your Rings cannot by other players.
ah ok
for OBH, whats the starting hand 5 right?
can anybody confirm
@Brook Cunningham
Yes, it seems so. Even though OBH uses starting Holdings from CE/EE, I can find no similar provision to begin with more than the 5 cards dictated by 20F Rules.
is this an engage action in obh? or its played aftert the engage ends and it counts as a reaction for the battle segment? @Brook Cunningham
It's taken during the engagement step, during the same timing window as Engage actions and before the Battle segment
Yes, 5.
[OBH] if your honor is bellow the honor requirement of a personality in a province, you can't bring It to play right?
No, you can't; not without some card effect. OBH does not have the Clan Allegiance/"Blood Money" Rule from Samurai/Celestial.
But if your opponent caused the honor loss you ignore HR for the rest of the game, according to the 20f rules?
Ah, yes, sorry. I did forget to also mention there is a Rule that if another player has caused you an Honor loss, or if the Rulebook has caused you to lose Honor (from one of your dishonorable Personalities dying), then you may ignore Honor Requirements for the remainder of the game.
Thx, but still Will be difficult to play toturi exp2 in my ninja deck haha
[OBH] how Does the ancestors work? Can i attach one to a personality entering play from a province bowing him (dinasty phase) ?
Yes. Or as a Limited action.
Only limited? The other attach actions are open in OBH...
I guess they forgot to include Ancestors?
No, they're in there.
Edit: NM, I can only find the attaching player ability Reaction. I guess I'm misremembering/conflating OBH document with the AEG Legacy Rules. Weird.
ShE-Retreating Salvo. If he ring of earths to stop my movement, does entire ability just fizzle and I dont get a range 3?
Way I was playing it before, the bowing AND movement of my personality had to be negated to stop the ranged 3?
Yeah, both the things before "to" have to happen in order for the thing after "to" to happen. So, if either the bowing or movement don't happen, neither will the RA3.
[ShE] Banish All Doubt is a Tactical Open action that does not target a personality. Does it still require using the Tactician keyword of a personality?
Yep. All Tactical actions that aren't on a Tactician have to implicitly target one by the Rules.
[She] if Akodo Kano is defending, and uses his Tactical Engage action, it allows his player to take the first action in battle. If the attacker uses Naval, who gets the first battle action?
Whichever of the two, either Kano or Naval, used their Engage last.
Equip is an open player ability that interacts with attachments (to which Ancestors are part of)
https://doc.clickup.com/9016365709/d/h/8cpnmmd-376/7a9c6229f3ddff1/8cpnmmd-456 Ancestral Guidance
Ah sorry
I overlooked you may Equip it OR use Ancestral Guidance
you can also reference the open player ability 'Equip' and definition of 'Attachments' (under Card Types)
meanwhile, this is a good rules citation for a player's original question
Thanks
How does Doji Meiji, regent work if you do not have a wind and he is unbowed? Does it prevent anyone with a wind from lobbying?
Please tag your questions with [edition/format].
(link)
[ShE] though not sure this particular question would be edition or format specific.
There are many formats and rulesets, some of which handle cost and effect rules in different ways.
I bet that gets horribly confusing if you play multiple rulesets.
Horribly confusing? Why? But sometimes even small detail may result in different answer. Especially in the case of a game with 20 years of history.
Sometimes, a little bit. Fortunately we can always ask for a particular ruling here
I had considered buying some boxes and trying modern if I could get local interest in the game. Suicide and possibly OBH were other formats I thought might work well for early local interest.
[OBH] Does ancestors count as followers? I am thinking specifically on Sanado's hability
No, they are a different card type.
[OBH] with Shrine of the Spirits and a sensei that lowers the province strenght (tetsuya for example), Does a creature with zero force break a province?
Currently Shrine of the Spirits is banned in OBH.
Kempy makes a fair point. Additionally, all stats besides HR and Starting Family Honor have a minimum value of 0; they cannot be negative.
In other words a 0 Force personality can't break a 0 Force province since you need to be 1 more force than the province to break it.
Is there any format where Shrine of the Spirits is playable?
Jade / Jade Extended, BigDeck
Thx for the answers!

ShE - With this for the interrupt window (for honor cards discarding to increase honor loss) does the opponent choose before or after the window?
After.
Thank you.
[EE] Can you play more than one reaction triggered by the same action? For instance:
can you use two Truce cards to produce 4 gold and pay for it?
Yes.
[OBH] Does https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=12038 stops https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=6191
I'm asking since Razors is adding a cost to targeting
No, it's not. But to answer your preceding post....
That is the original question as far as I know
(Ok, I made a clarifying edit.)
Yes, Pearl Cache will prevent the discard effect of Razor's Edge Dojo.
I see what happened the wording was changed.
Now still on the same subject Does Pearl stops https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=3138
Since he does add a cost.
No. Cache only stops discard effects, not costs. The effect of Kuon is to add a cost, not directly to cause the discard.
If Koun is in play they would have to discard a card for the cost of targeting?
Would and could, yes.
[Legacy] kind of a silly question but if you have a chain of "soul of" personalities they still count against each other even if they are more than one step removed?
assuming it is a format that cares about that ofc
just tag this as Legacy or OBH
Yes.
tag?
and ty
Edit your post and add [OBH] or [Legacy] at the start of question post.
oh ok
I had the same problem with modern lion that some soul was chained to matsu gohei... with different soul of names and different editions and gold cost...
Matsu aoiko, matsu tayuko and matsu hachiro

Can Kyujutsu ignore/override the ancestor’s “protection”
For me it overrides.
[ShE] does an action on an item count as coming "from" the equipped personality for this effect?
Does it have to be an action printed on or granted to that personality? Or could any action that targets them count?
The correct definition is the middle one of your 3 asks. Being "from" a card (Personality in this case) means the action is on, or granted to, the card directly.
[OBH] the stronghold "Yogo Junzo's Army" is tournament legal? It does not appear in the Oracle of the Void...
It was retitled in its MRP to "The Shadowlands Horde".
I see, thank you
Thanks
[Lotus]: Can i react with more than one "Unexpected Find" Strategie card to a single overpayment ? Even if i drew the second one from the first one's reaction ?
You may play more UF for one overpaying, but keep in mind that this card got errata. And card draw is delayed.
