Question- in Legacy
Akodo- does his battle action to put him into play require you to meet his Honor requirement?
Messages from the Sun and Moon #rules-questions Discord channel, copied for Oracle of the Void. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings and the rulebooks may differ.
Question- in Legacy
Akodo- does his battle action to put him into play require you to meet his Honor requirement?
Yes.
Is a shadowlands horde player allowed to play suspicions?
Or does that violate the clause on their stronghold that prevents them from taking actions that cause other players unconditional honor loss?
Suspicions is an event, though I suspect that doesn't make it okay, because I'm pretty sure I've got the wording on some of that wrong.
Suspicions isn't action
Siege question- the Rokugani players' honor gains in Clan Wars are replaced by gaining Political Tokens. This means your family honor never increases- how do you meet Honor Requirements?
Or, for that matter, recover lost honor?
Thanks!

I have been blind and a fool.
Tha k you kindly lol
hey, I have a question. This has probably been answered a thousand times... but I figure I should verify how this interaction works. I'm doing this for my JadeEx box I'm running for KublaCon, and feel like I should know pretty well how it interacts.
So, if I have the ring of air in play, and I play two actions on kihos, shugenjas, or spells, and Then play Finding the Harmony to swap the Ring of Air for a different Ring, can I then immediately play the Ring of Air as I have now satisfied the conditions for playing it?
furthermore, if I do this a second time, are the conditions still met? If I miss the trigger to play it after a kiho, can I play it later in the same turn?
Yes, FETA was a "cheese" deck in Jade (pun intended) which stood for "Finding Enlightenment Through Air". You could do all of that except the last thing. You have to React with Air right after taking the 3rd (or later) Spell/Kiho action; you can't wait and do it anytime later in the turn.
Thanks! I'll have to do some playtesting to find out just how crazy broken it is compared to other decks. If it's too much, I will retool it into a more traditional phoenix kiho/spell slinger deck so as not to spoil the engagement.
I can't remember if Finding the Harmony actually got a mid-Arc errata to fix it because it was so broken, or if it didn't get "fixed" until its Gold Edition MRP. That info might be in here: (link) But I'm too lazy to check myself. π
pretty sure it remained broken until Gold; actual errata that didn't come via MRP was scarce in the Old Times
Turblightenment also lost to Monk Military in the Monk vs. Monk GenCon finals
Was the closest enlightenment got to winning Gencon
And it lost to monk military lol
But as I remember, that monk deck was not feta. Because that was the Gencon where Honor Bound released at the convention?
it wasn't, it was the 1999 War in the Heavens finals
but I misremembered my own reporting from that event because it was legit "starts Water" House of Tao Turblightenment https://kolatinformant.wordpress.com/2014/05/25/1999-war-in-the-heavens/#more-1430
That was an impressive deck.
But I was curious.. moving convo to jade
watching it in action was a thing of beauty
Im sure this has already been asked, but he can't overlay onto the Danna-Sama item right?
Only Personalities can overlay or be overlaid.
Yeah I thought so, but the rules have a statement indicating that exp items cant overlay, but it doesn't talk about personalities onto items
Ah, I see; a bit of an overlooked a technical gap in the wording there. That statement is meant to work both ways. To fall back on previous precedent, Kanpeki could not/cannot overlay his Holding version either.
Thank you.
Does a wind remove the ability to lobby for the imperial favour or does it give you an additional option to get the imperial favour in the method ducted on the card ?
You can still Lobby normally. But you can only Lobby once per turn, no matter what Lobby action you choose to use.
Ah okay is it the same for using the favour you can use it for the normal favour actions or the ones written in your wind ?
I thought it was instead of this whole time π
The Favor actions are instead, just the Lobby isn't. So, if you have a Wind, you can't use the Rulebook Favor abilities.
Ooooohhh okay so you can get the favour via lobbying or the wind but using it you can only use it for the winds effects ?
Yep
If the Attacker wins, he or she destroys all units in the defending army. If the attacking armyβs Force was greater than the defending armyβs Force plus the Province Strength of the battle
eldβs Province, the Attacker also destroys the Province.
this is going to sound bloody stupid but i have always played it in a way where hou must meet or exceed the province strength so say they are at 9 strength and you have 9 force in your army you would win that battle
can i just get confirmation it would have to be at 10 force not 9 in order to takew the province
9 PS must have a minimum 10F army attacking it (with no defense, of course) to be destroyed.
I had the opposite problem with SmashUp. Because of years of playing L5R, I thought you had to exceed a Base's breakpoint to score it, but in SmashUp, you just have to meet it. π
i think ffgl5r was meet the province strength too..
Okay then... If it's your turn, and you use this guy to lobby for the favor with his own action, can you then later lobby using the rulebook action? He explicitly ignores the lobby once per turn rule, but the wording seems to imply that if you use him first it still takes your once per turn lobby.
The Oracle text is also a little oddly worded... "Limited: Even if you have already Lobbied this turn, if you have only done so once before, bow Ichiro: He Lobbies, ignoring the cost of bowing."
It's more based on his CWS MRP.
Alright.
But yes, if you Lobby with his ability first, that's your one Lobby, you're done. You have to use the normal one first.
Also, his weird wording means you have to use his SECOND, if you have 3+ ways to Lobby. He will not let you do it a third or later time, if you already did twice some other way.
That can be awkward sometimes, but it's good to know that's how it works.
I think my Jade decks no longer use him, I think I switched over to Yoshi (and his Soul-Of), but he'd be a good swap due to his cost.
Yoshi is, of course, much more flexible.
Yoshi's action is Open. It's always more flexible.
Side note, Ichiro Exp is one buff dude. Not just for a Courtier. He's more buff than most Crane Samurai.
Toshimoko's son
So you know. "The seed is strong."
Ok, this might be seen as a weird question at this point in time, but could anybody please explain to me the difference between LCG and CCG? Up to this day that is something that is still not 100% clear to me. Thanks a lot in advance...
My understanding is that generally, the Living Card Game (LCG) model puts out its sets in fixed packages that include known quantities of all cards. CCGs (Collectible Card Games) distribute primarily in randomized packs with varied rarities. And that's what I take to be the main difference. If you're asking specifically about the differences between the 2 L5R versions, Tetsuro goes into greater detail below.
History wise, the CCG was the original game and setting, which existed from 1995 to 2015, when the IP was sold to FFG.
FFG reimagined the game setting, discarding almost all story elements and developments since the CCG's very first release, Imperial Edition, effectively rebooting the franchise and retelling the first storyline, with several of those characters re-imagined or replaced. The game folded and was discontinued I believe towards the end of that first arc, roughly analogous to the Time of the Void CCG expansion.
Currently FFG appears to be re-reimagining the setting and story again for future projects. It is unclear if this would be a follow up to their first reboot attempt that was the LCG
Mechanically, a CCG uses the old Common/Uncommon/Rare distribution model of games like Magic, with randomized booster packs and fixed starter decks.
LCGs use a fixed system with no rarity, where one receives the entire set at once in an expansion pack, and there are no boosters. The argument is that this is more affordable for players, though this is sometimes countered by the need to buy multiple copies of an expansion pack to get as many copies as needed of critical cards for multiple decks.
Gameplay wise, the LCG adopts some of the recognized tropes of the CCG, such as the two deck system, but discards many others in favor of new mechanics or mechanics heavily inspired by their other games, particularly the Game of Thrones LCG
There are far too many differences in mechanics from the CCG to the LCG to cover them all, and as I'm not totally versed in all the rules that eventually became a part of the LCG, I'd probably get several of them wrong. π
Also, while "LCG" is a term specifically owned by FFG, other companies have made their own LCGs (also, strictly speaking, a board game like Munchkin is a living card game as well). FFG also puts out various co-operative living card games (like the Arkhan Horror card game) which do way better than competitive LCGs (and in both cases, as a business model they are much cheaper to produce and logistically easier to maintain than a "regular" CCG)
Ironically, due to the digital nature of the game currently, the Onyx content, being a "fixed rarity" style set, is more analogous to the LCG distribution style (where no one has to chase rare cards).
L5R LCG by nature are also "slower" than CCG. Instead iof 160 cards per 3 months you got like 20 cards per month (as average) so in tribalised game like L5R yiur clan evolves so slow (its hard to mix cards between clans as they are clan locked). LCG by averwge requires 1.5 year to get viable number of cards to make some deckbuilding ideas. In a world of internet in such small cardpool meta is explored really fast.
If you want to learn more about the LCG though let me know. I played it from start to end of official support
Thanks to you all for your help. I think I finally have a clear picture (at least it is clearer than before) of both systems. Thanks a lot!!!!!
Also, overall player cost wise. LCG is hell of a lot cheaper then the CCG model.
Nitoshi's Gift-
Does this effect trigger if a personality is forcibly moved to a battlefield by someone other than the target's controller?
No. Their controller has to be the one moving them.
Thanks
I want to double-check something... can I stop Kisada's Funeral from entering in play with Meditating Mind? (Assuming the opponent is using Kano's Alliance as his Wind)
pretty sure you can't
if they are useing kano, the dynasty action to put the event into play cannot be negated by meditating mind. if they are windless or have another wind, you can cnegate the dynasty action preventing the card from entering play
Thanks!
I have a question about Personal Assassin from Chaos Reigns: The assassin targets with its engage action so does the target immediately get a poison token even at the engage step?
No. It was targeted during the first effect removing its abilities. The indefinite conditional effect set up afterwards will trigger on each subsequent targeting, but the action's own targeting has already passed and will not trigger it.
Thanks! much appreciated.
Does this card affect force tokens?
Tokens are not bonuses, they provide modifiers (like items)
As I thought, just wanted to double-check. Thanks
No, sorry. The opposite is true. Tokens give bonuses and penalties. CR page 95 and 96.
See above
Whaaaattttt?????
assuming the card holding the tokens is still there at the end of the turn, however, the rejection of conflict will expire and the bonuses or penalties will return then
As well as any other bonuses or penalties with a duration longer than the negation duration.
Ok, that means that this card can also remove penalties from force tokens, right?
Until the end of turn, after which they would reassert. But yes.
Wow...
Huh
Thats...not intuitive.
"A ninja poisoned my lunch, but I reject conflict so I'll be fine" lol
wouldn't say fine exactly, the Chi penalties will still be there
Eh they're like Hit Points. As long as you're above 0 there's no issue π
removing the symptoms but masking that severe internal hemorrhaging
Someone went to the Burning Sands School of Knife Fighting
the distinction between modifiers and bonuses/penalties was also confusing to me. The easiest way to remember is that only Items and Senseis give modifiers, everything else gives bonuses and/or penalties (I hope I'm not wrong π )
If you are second in OBH, and you face this guy, it means youre dead as you literally can't announce any action, including Dynasty Recruit?
Hrm. Good point. If your opponent gets this guy out and you have no Personalities, you can't do anything in a post Ivory Ruleset.
Except maybe fish and pray for Unexpected Allies or similar.
FOYK stock just went up
Nah. Fall won't stop Sugi locking out your Dynasty.
Once per turn. So the recourse here is to build up enough gold to buy two personalities
And either the first gets canceled from the ability, or it goes through and the person can pay the cost.
It's precious momentum, but thats the name of the game in OBH
But how do you buy Gold in the first place?
Same deal. Since you have BK and if second BH, you can take more than one action
Ah, sure. I mean, it's a fairly unlikely hypothetical anyway.
Yeah. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty strong jank, but IMHO obh is a duel of "may the best jank win"
Hello guys, question with Isawa, he says he will cast spells in hand as if they were attached to him. If its attached to him it means I already paid for the spell. So am I able to use the spells for free or I need to pay to use it?
No Gold needed. Have fun. π
Hmm. Would he get the -1C Corruption Tokens if he cast something like The Wasting Disease?
No. "Casting" a Spell only involves taking its action; their traits won't factor in from your hand.
But it's only once per turn Reaction "after an action is announced". So what's exactly happening? Player announces Recruit without any unbowed Personalities in play. Then Sugimoto player uses his Reaction. Action failed, becasue there's no way to pay costs. So player still may announce another Recruit?
Quick question: When a card grants you a lobby bonus or inflict the opponent a lobby penalty, that does apply only to the rulebook lobby mechanics? Or that also applies to the wind's mechanics for taking the imperial favor?
It applies to any of the lobby methods
Meaning if for example you have an empty hand, lobby bonus of 10, and your opponent with Suikihime has a full hand, then they cannot wind lobby
Yeah, I suppose it's "action", not "ability", so one could just try Recruiting again? Unless it didn't mean that in Lotus.... Ah well, it was a just a fun thought exercise for an unlikely circumstance anyway. π
Yeah, Marcus is correct. When Winds were made, the definition of Lobby Bonus was amended to be broader. Fun fact: There technically is no definition for Lobby Penalty, so that's being introduced now and the Rule will need further amending.
an ability that has "Dynasty: ..." can that be only done on your own dynasty, or can it be done each dynasty?
Only your own.
Thanks. Is that in the comprehensive rules somewhere? or the onyx rules? I know I saw proclaiming, but wasn't sure about this specifically.
It's in the 20F CR somewhere. I don't have it handy, but I think there's an overview of phases, and while Action Phase says "everybody takes turns taking actions", Dynasty says "just you take actions". Something like that.
thanks
(link)
Kempy posted the spesific wording from the comprehensive rulebook a little while ago π
Thanks
so in ShE, does silk merchant and majordomo combo how I think it does?
Do you mean Fine Silk Merchant, and what exactly are you thinking?
Each time you use Majordomo, FSM gets +1GP until end of turn. That means, if you've got 2 FSMs, each use of Majordomo pays for itself, and if you have all 3, each use of Majordomo nets you 1GP profit
sorry thought i could post the rest, then game started
hold on
ah that is what I thought
had 5 retainers, 3 of which were silk merchants
it got a bit silly
question with this card Otomo Lineage. Can I target one of my personalities in provinces for the +1PH? or it has to be in play?
You can't target card out of play unless card allows it.
For the Onyx edition Spider stronghold, does the Fear effect trigger if you target a personality that already has Shadowlands?
y
I hope Kempy above is ok? I think his "y" was meant to be an affirmative reply to your question. The answer is "yes, as long as they're yours, it doesn't matter if the target already has Shadowlands or not."
as long as they're yours and it's as Battle
Thanks
Are you able to use an all clan sensei, if you use a stronghold without clan? Like Lost traveler castle
Yes
For the terrain Fields of Slaughter, would honor be gained for using Rout?
For LE printing of Field and Celestial Rout - no. As theres movement first and destroying attachment happens during battle but not at battlefield.
Is the Strongholds trait a bonus for Saiyuki when beeing opposed ? I am asking because in the 20F-Rulebook about "BONUSES AND PENALTIES" it says about exceptions to a bonus or penalty: # 0.5. A fluctuating bonus or penalty is one that explicitly changes with the game state. Example: A card that has +1F for each Samurai in play. Changes in the size of a fluctuating bonus or penalty due to changes in the game state are not bonuses or penalties. Example: A card that has +1F for each Samurai in play goes from +3F to +2F when a Samurai is destroyed. This is not a Force penalty. #
The Questions Is about "The Impregnable Fortress of the Crab" Stronghold and "Hida Saiyuki ". I cannot upload the card images to show them here, don't know why.
Don't see any Upload button.
I think image uploads might be tied to format roles, you only have a tourney role
You might be right, i forgot about that when i entered this server. Thanks i will catch up on it asap...
Roles are handed out manually so you'll still have to wait a bit
Saiyuki gets the extra +1F while opposed. One of my tournament wins was an Ivory Strict format just before 20F legality and the stronghold cycled out, with cheap bodies, force bonuses and penalties, and card draw. It was designed to maximize Saiyuki.
So every different force bonus would give him +1F? And the difference to the example in the rulebook compared to this one is that being opposed is a true/false state condition which does not scale ? When the trait on the Stronghold would read "... +1F for every opposing Personality" then it would not give him the bonus at all because it would be similar to the example in the rulebook ?
Maybe i am reading the example with the Samurai wrong π
so the text you quoted from the rulebook involves when the "fluctuating bonus" changes -- using Saiyuki as an example, he is in an opposed battle, therefore he has a +2F bonus, but if for some reason the opposition is removed, his Force drops by 2 as the bonus no longer applies, but that Force drop is not considered a Force penalty
the initial bonus (even if fluctuating) is still a bonus
and if he harpoons back in a new opposition, he will receive the +2F as a new bonus
Really? I'd have thought it's not a new bonus, but the same bonus that reapplies itself (the previous state of "opposed" is once more true)
In terms of where that mechanically makes a difference I'd defer to @Brook Cunningham, but as a hypothetical
If there was a card in play with a trait that said Negate the first Force bonus a Personality receives at this battle and you start the battle with Saiyuki opposed, his initial +2F would be negated. Changing the state to unopposed would remove the condition of that initial bonus, but then recreating the opposition later would reapply the conditions and create a new bonus, not just generate the "same" bonus to be reapplied as already negated.
(please Brook tell me if I'm totally off base here)
You might be? But it's a rare enough case, I'd have to check the CR, which I don't have handy.
question, when using this stronghold Palace of the Breking down, would Honored sensei still produce 1 more gold and gain 1 honor if I pay for an uniligned personality or any clan personality? I think not but still want to make sure
yes
thanks, didn't though it would apply if you didn't had a faction, but nice to know it does
Unicorn rule question: Can "Utaku Kimionos" response ability be used with traits from "Moto Ajinai", "Moto Nergui" or "Moto Maral" ? Or can it only be used with Actions that give tokens?
Any Response can only be used in response to an Action. Traits are very notably not Actions
Ok. That makes the card less good as i first thought, but still ok π...
if it helps to remmeber, an Unaligned player does not share a clan alignment with Unaligned personalities
Also a player and a player: Doc is correct. Emphasis mine below: "CONTINUOUS # Finally, non-triggered traits like βYour Samurai have +1Fβ have continuous effects that apply while the card is in play and all conditions on the trait, if any, are met (see Traits, previous section). If a continuous effect ceases to apply, then is reapplied, it is a new effect; for example, a Force bonus that was negated by an ongoing effect will reassert itself." From the CR page 40.
Can you range attack nothing? Like... lets say I have a range 3, can I activate the ability without a target at the battlefield? I am asking because "No Hiding Place" indicates that it's an interrupt to the action.
No, there is required targeting for RAs. However, in specific reference to your NHP example, actions can be announced and targets can be chosen legally in their respective steps based on later actions/choices that you may take, and if you do so, you must take them/be able to take them.
That... confused me
I added a few words in editing. Does it still? If so, which part?
Yes, how can it interrupt something that can't be initiated?
I know that it changes the target and therefore makes it targetable, but how can you even go to activate it without opposition?
You can initiate it. Note the final paragraph of the Good Faith Rule, 20F CR pg 37:
"The Good Faith rule takes into account future changes in the game state that are known to the player. Example: if Bob plans to play an Interrupt that gives the action a target it wouldnβt have when he announced it, this allows him to play the action, but also requires him to play that Interrupt having announced it."
ok, thank you!
I had included no hiding place with this idea in mind, but then read it as an interrupt and was like... waaaait a second lol
All that said, my ancient memory stirs that there may have been past Editions where in the Rules, RA targeting was not required, but that way lies madness.
Praise P'an Ku. The Madness Spreads.
OMG that's mind blowing for me... I thought No Hiding Place was nasty, but that card is hell itself
No, RAs were always required to be targetted to be played.
I choose to believe you are correct for my sanity. π
Ok, but right now, RAs do require a target or not?
Yes, in 20F/Onyx, they absolutely do.
Buuuuu, but ok, got it xD
House of Tsukihime targeting a province in my province vs. a Raid Battle opponent... what is this interaction?
So far I know, the raids don't happen in a province, so that wind should not interact with them
the wind doesnt care
A Raid battle will "use up" the triggered effect of HoT Wind to no effect. A Raid Attack is a declared attack, the player "must" assign a Personality somewhere that doesn't exist (assuming it's the usual sort of Raid; 1 battle at no Province), so they are not obligated to do anything.
Ok thank you!
Another Raid question:
In the case of a tie for a regular battle: "If the battle is tied and there are one or more units on both sides of the battlefield, the Attacker and Defender each destroy all units in the enemy army."
And in the rules for Raid battles: "[its] resolution does not destroy defending armies and cannot destroy Provinces"
Does this mean by extension that if you trigger a Raid battle and tie, your units are destroyed but the defender's are not?
Correct.
Thank you!
does Determination count as giving a card Unstoppable?
Would a card that prevents cards from having Unstoppable stop Determination from working?
MRP text on Oracle doesn't explicitly make it Unstoppable, but that seems to be the effect of the card.
1. No 2. No.
alright.
thanks
also... am I allowed to use Fu-Leng, the Ninth Kami in BigDeck?
You will note, the rest of Fu Leng's trait also stops Determination, regardless of the fact it has nothing to do with "Unstoppable".
I didn't actually notice that... I'm kinda just understanding these cards for the first time here. I picked up the Clan War Siege box ages ago, but never had anyone to play it with.
I think someone already answered in the Big Deck Discord that Fu Leng is indeed useable in the format (yikes :P).
With Obsidian Halls of the lost: My opponent can't choose to give their character Shadowlands if their character already has Shadowlands, correct? I feel like I remember that being a thing, but I'm also not sure I could articulate why it's a thing...
In the LCG you're not allowed to choose an effect that would result in no game state change. But I don't think that rule exists in the CCG. You're allowed to choose to dishonor a personality who's already dishonored, for instance.
No, your opponent can totally choose to give them Shadowlands even if they already have it. You can't just nuke tainted people's Chi with the box; you'll need other ways to make it a bad choice.
Alright. Good to know π thanks!
Are Reactions once per MY turn or once per turn (also during my opponents turn) in general? So could i use a Reaction ability on a card in play during my turn and during the opponents turn?
Abilities (identified by having a bolded timing keyword) can be used once per turn. Your turn and an opponent's turn count as separate turns.
Andrew is correct. π
Is the personality created by the supposed to have a gold cost or no?
By default, it has a GC stat of 0.
Ok, usually they have whatever you paid, thats why I wasn't sure.
can you overlay in lotus if you dont meet the honor req.?
I'm pretty sure the HR waiving was the same throughout all Editions, but I don't have the Lotus Rulebook handy to check.
I checked the rule book and it didn't say either way.
Can you cycle without moving any cards to the bottom of the deck? like... just cycle a face down?
i believe so, the action itself is put 0-4 card on the bottom of your deck and then refil all provinces face up if i recall
In 20F/Onyx CR it's not 0-4, it's one or more.
i was incorrect it is 1 or more
But, can the 1 be the facedown card?
or you have to move at least 1
that is face up?
However! Yes, if all of your cards are face-down, you can still use Cycle to turn them all up. Unlikely, but possible.
The first two effects just don't happen in that case.
ok but if you have at least 1 face up you have to move at least 1 to cycle at all
thanks
Or rather, the choice and the bottoming; the choice isn't technically an "effect".
Correct. (Sorry, I misread at first.)
yeah i thought the two were connected but there is a full stop so they are two seperate effects
or does the then clause force you to do the first half first?
As Nue said, if there are any face-up cards, the first sentence will force you to choose at least one, and the second sentence will bottom it. But if they're all face-down, you just skip the choosing and bottoming and WHOOSH, all face-up.
while agree you are almost certainly correct shouldn't there be an 'if able'?
To make things clear... if there's exactly 1 face up card, you have to move that one to the bottom of the deck, then you refill that province, then you are able to flip the four cards face up?
If there are two face up cards... can you move one of them to the bottom of the deck, refill that province and then flip face up the three face down cards?
It would just be reminder, which isn't required game text.
that makes sense
Yes.
Yep.
It says in a roundabout way. The Lotus rulebook says you ignore the card's "play restrictions" and earlier in the book, HR is described as a "restriction".
Good enough for me.
One question about Interrupt effects. Can you use them once per trigger per turn or only once per turn at all?
Unless they are Repeatable they follow standard OPT (once per turn).
I see a lot of decks running only 1 Forgotten Legacy. Is there a reason for this? It isn't Unique and from what I can tell the Legacy Dynasty action isn't once per game.
One copy is enough to avoid total goldscrew during most important first turn. Later this card might be clunky as it's 3 for 3 and that may be problematic in 4GP Strongholds.
Also cost of a removing Fate card is not something you want to pay 3 times, turn by turn.
Makes sense, thanks.
Hello guys, question. Are guys like chukage able to put false rings or dark rings into play? or only normal ones? Under legacy or big Deck construction I mean
this is another example
"Ring of Water" is a specific card title. Those two can only get the normal one. Chukage is worded a bit misleadingly, as his trait says "a" Ring of Water, but there is only one.
It would be a different situation if either said a "Water Ring". Then it could be any Ring with the Water keyword.
What about "Dark Ring of Water"? It has "Ring of Water" as a subnet of its name.
It just has some blemishes on it.
Yes, but Chukage isn't from an edition where "subsets" were recognized. A keyword or name were complete and couldn't be broken apart.
π¦
Can the action be used while the solo personality is bowed?
No, you have to be unbowed to issue a challenge. I think that holds in all ruleset editions.
No, theres no such restiction in rulebook. Most duels requires unbowed Personality in its text.
But this ability from COAT is provided to Personality and unless its Tireless ("even if its bowed")you cant announce it from bowed guy.
Thanks, that is how we played it tonight.
https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=11223 : Can i use his Interrupt at the current battlefield even if he is not there ? Do Interrupts generally also fall under the "RULE OF PRESENCE" and "RULES OF LOCATION" ?
Yes, Interrupts are also governed by Presence and Location.
Just double checking, the winds override the normal lobby actions right? a player said they think that the lobby target still has to have at least 1 honor.. that's not accurate right? the winds override that?
The Wind Lobby actions are separate and have no hidden requirements, but you can still Lobby normally too. Just only one once each turn.
yeah
thank you
Is the stronghold ability to flip the stronghold a stronghold ability or a player ability?
I believe it's a player ability
Yep, player. It's just reminder of its existence on the box, not the ability itself.
Thanks!
How does Hira Sensei work with pre-Ivory edition events? Things like Harsh Choices and the like where there's no action associated, merely the Event resolving.
It doesn't/can't.
How do All Clans Sensei work with Unaligned Strongholds - can they be used?
(link)
If two triggers activate at the same time, both from the same player, how do you know which one resolves first? For example, lets say an effect says "When the target assigns, destroy a card without an attachment in the target's unit." and another effect "When the target assigns, destroy an attachment in the target's unit" ?
The active players get to pick, IIRC.
Thank you.
Just check Timing Conflicts # section in 20F CR.
What is the difference between "Before the battle resolves" and "After the combat segment ends" ?
The latter is slightly sooner than the former.
Check Battle Sequence # in 20F CR
ah ok, so if you move someone home with Moment of Mercy, and then return them back, if Mountains of the Phoenix is in play, and they are the only one you have there, Mountains would destroy the guy coming back?
Also Timing # Triggers #
Cards' images could help.
Yes. Mercy movement happens before destruction from Mountains.
Yeah thats what I was trying to figure out, thanks!

how does reducing my chi to zero interact with "having a minimum chi of 5". lets say big deck rules
i cant get the picture to drop. more specifically "touch of the infinite" with personality that has yogen equipped
Won't reduce it lower than 5.
but i can give my personality infinite -1 chi counters?
When determining the current value of a stat, minimums and maximums are factored last. So, no matter how many Chi Penalties a Personality has, if they also have a "minimum Chi of X", their Chi will always be at least X. Just don't lose that sword, eh? π
However, looking at Touch of the Infinite specifically... there is a problem.
so you agree with the first answer? when i reduce my chi to "zero" it will actually only go to 5. giving me less of an effect on my opponets personality?
So... "Reduce his Chi to 0" is a cost of the Spell; if not paid, nothing happens at all. So, if his Chi doesn't drop to 0 because of the Yogen trait, you get nothing; you can't even cast it in Good Faith.
Is Cavalry Engage considered an action?
Yes
With flame's protection, if a card target's the unit, can flames protection protect against it?
I recall reading here something on the lines of targeting a unit was equivalent of targeting the personality in it, but I am not 100% sure
(link)
it was stated already i think
I believe shougo is correct, it was a reference to Daigotsu churo and how his interrupt works in connection to Meditating Mind. In The Flame's Protection's case. If an ability's wording says something along the lines of do something to a card in a target unit, then the spell would trigger as the unit and the personality in this case are one in the same. If in contrast the ability targets a card in the unit directly the spell would not trigger as it never targets the unit.
As two examples, Meditating mind targets the unit, Your True nature targets an attachment directly.
At least that is how it works i believe
I have a question about Back to the Front. Can you target a personality at the current battlefield with it and straighten them?
No. The straightening happens during the movement. You can legally target them, yes, but since they're not moving, they won't straighten.
Ok, thanks.
Question about Latest Fashion. It says that it can be used "if the action was Political and targeted or was from this personality". I read this as the action has to be Political and wither target or be from the personality, but I have been told that it is the action either has to be Political and target the personality or be from the personality. Which reading is correct? Because those are very different readings.
People told you wrong things. It has to be Political either way, and then additional must also have either targeted, or been from, the Personality.
I thought so.
"People told you wrong" I don't like that you say it that way the card can be read "was political and targeted" thats the first parameter, "or was from this personality" that's the second...
This is the exact same issue that the poison master had.
I have brought it up as card commentary on the onyx lives server.
I'm unclear on "if you drew a card from the action". Can the Response be activated in response to an Expendable card draw or is that not an action?
My reading is that Condition 1: the action has to be political Condition 2: either targeted this personality or was from this personality
Expendable isn't an action, it's a triggered Rulebook effect. The draw would be from that, not from the action that destroyed the Expendable Personality.
That's the correct reading, though it could be clearer as has been pointed out elsewhere. An adjustment may be made in the near future to add clarity, beyond the context that "targeted" is not an adjective used in game terms to describe actions.
Thank you! Time to find some additional card draw for this deck
Are Kiho and Elemental actions considered spells?
Pretty sure the answer is no. Spells have a different color border to show they are a spell. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
From the 20F Advanced Rulebook (pg 9). "Spells are attachments that will only attach to a Shugenja." Since Kihos and Elemental actions don't attach, they would not be considered spells.
Hunh. I can't find the Kiko definition in either Celestial or Emperor.
Kiho used to be considered Spell Effects, so something like Resist Magic would work on them.
Before Samurai edition, Kiho were different card type and their effects were considered as spell effects. Since Samurai edition they are just Actions/Strategies with Kiho keyword.
They dont have rulebook effect now but their effects nearly always require Monk or Shugenja to perform or target.
To be more clear, as i wrote it wrong. Kihos were also actions in Lotus, but they got rulebook effect that got removed in Samurai and later.
From LE rules:
LE printing
SE:
If this targets a Dishonorable personality, does any personality brought into play with honor more than 0 become dishonored, or does it check their printed honor?
The former. It does not check printed.
Thanks
Does Kimiono also grant extra tokens to, say, Sincerity cards in your provinces?
Only if an action gave them such a token. Responses can only Respond to actions. Sincerity's natural token-accumulation is not from an action.
Right, makes sense
Wonder what kind of Unicorn deck wants Kimiono in it, though that's a question for a different channel
The kind that throws out Force penalty tokens; that's something they do, right? π
Oooooh right
she is a good support piece. i do have a question about her interaction with the new khedai, his transfer ability, does it could as giving a token to the target and thuse she can effectivly double his effect by allowing him to transfer one od his force tokens to an enemy and then double it on the new target?
Yes, she can Respond to an action that transferred a token. To "give" a token isn't a reserved game term exclusively defined as creating one from nothing, so the word's broader meanings can be applied here.
You should rename Actions to "Ask"s. So you can Ask/Respond. π
Would this allow Fear/Range/Melee to target the duel's loser even through followers or other effects like that?
No.
i've thought that everyone who support of removal AI gfx just deleted their current folders and replaced everything with recent text only versions. π
I haven't gotten around to it yet (haven't updated Ikoma Libraries either)
Would Kumoru's Open action trigger Poison Sake when the personality is assigned to the battle?
Yes
Cool, wasn't sure how the interaction of being assigned vs assigning your own personalities.
Don't forget about this guy as well. He's also good friend of Kumoru.
oh yeah, he is in most of my spider decks
hmm, i reread this and this ability i am not sure now. ;/
It still triggers off of other actions or even eing targeted though
and @kempy_nezumi Poison Sake specifically references the Personality being assigned by his controller, so it doesn't combo with Kumoru. Tairao does not specify, so he does combo.
I would argue it doesn't work because Poison Sake says when his controller assigns him. Kurmoru forces the assignment even if their controller doesn't want them too.
Yeah that is what I was thinking, wanted to double check.
Damn Macbeth beat me
Its still really strong with Tairao
question. under legacy rules. does corrupt geisha house exp allows to put the false ring of fire?
I would say: yes.
From 20F CR:
Kempy is correct. Infinity is higher than 10. π
nice, thanks
Question with test of the emerald champion. If the owner of the event has a personality in play but the oponent doesn't have. The duel never happens. Can the owner gain the province if the no duel happened?
Correct.
It's conditional. You lost 0 of 0 duels. Free Province!
Can I get a reminder... if a card is used, and hits the discard pile, and then is returned to the hand, it can or can't be used again that turn if it doesn't have tireless?
If it goes to the hand face-down, it is then both face-down and out of play, so it loses all "memory". Both conditions must be true at once for that to happen.
Looking for 3 physical Harmony has been found. Anyone willing to sell them?
Thats what I thought, thank you.
Rosoku Sensei vs A game of dice:
If a player has already drawn a card during their limited phase, would they get the two cards during End?
that sounds like a silly question on paper, but Game of Dice is a Limited action
Right, so even though the cards would come at you later, the effect would be negated and not happen later.
but technically if you reversed the actions, youre fine?
As worded in the Oracle, correct, which I assume is faithful to the contemporary errata.
Are the bonuses permanent?
No, until end of turn. Permanent bonuses are always described as such in the trait or ability text
It's the opposite of Magic.
Which makes sense, because most bonuses are temporary, so why make the more common result take more words?
Quick question: if I have Yasuki Makoto experienced in play, can I also bring in her non experienced version?
If it's non-Unique, yes.
As in, you could have a Unique Matsu Gohei Exp. on the table, and bring in the non-Unique, non-Experienced versions.
Awesome thank you
Sorry for asking another question. If I use Sukihime Sensei from the coming storm to give a non unique crane courtier my clan alignment, in this case Phoenix, does it replace crane with Phoenix or is the courtier both crane and Phoenix now?
Both.
Playing at my local game store and we're all relearning the game
Great thank you MacBeth2001
Then you bring back the crane Guy
