do followers detatched in battle by Street to Street contribute force to the army's total force despite not being in units? card is confusing to me
Sun and Moon #rules-questions
Messages from the Sun and Moon #rules-questions Discord channel, copied for Oracle of the Void. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings and the rulebooks may differ.
Street to street lasts until after combat segment, so they attach before resolution to available personalities. In a way, the followers will still contribute force if they eventually attach back.
Oh! ok I see now
thank you.
so the point then is to make units vulnerable to ranged attacks, yogo towers, etc. got it
Yes. This was a core card in naga range decks in Clan Wars and to a lesser extent Yoritomo's Alliance.
I got in jade and I think I remember seeing the card played in some jade extended games but that was so, so long ago and my memory is so fuzzy. thanks for helping out 😄
ok, so; can unattached followers who got that way from street to street take battle actions, then? like can an unattached spearmen still do its battle action?
I see nothing in the card that says otherwise. The only effect it does is temporarily unattach the followers.
thought so just wanted to make sure. thx
It stops you combining Ranged Attacks.
Also, it was really good in Yogo Towers, as it let you bow the Personalities - and in Jade, Followers attached to bowed Personalities didn't contribute force.
And in Gold.
I suppose that implies that bowed personalities no longer reduce the units force to 0 after Gold? I was unaware 😮 thx
The 20F rulebook is very straightforward about this rule. Only bowed personalities and followers do not contribute their force during battle resolution.
Word, thank you. I've really just been teaching local friends using jade and gold rules with the caveat that "this game changed a whole lot and i'm still learning how it did, if you stick around, we can learn together"
I need to sit down with the newer rulebook pdfs at some point.
The good thing about the 20F rulebook is that its used as the basis for most Legacy play. And, you can also get to know how to play Ivory format.
Question: do the items that allow you to play a ring from your hand count for enlightenment victory?
Depends on the ruleset.
Some arcs allowed them to count, and others didn't - and some arcs, it changed part way through (usually because such an item made it too easy).
assuming I use this with Obsidian Hand ruleset?
ToH require to put rings by their own text except rings that enter play before game starts.
damn. I guess enlightenment just isn't that viable anymore.
can Miyashi search for Togashi?
2) playing Lady Moon's Prophecy is considered as Ring enering play to trigger Introspection?
doesn't say elemental rings.
"one of your Rings"
that's my take, I don't know if its corrrect.
i'm thinking about timing. When you put LMP in play it's a kiho that becames Ring when it's in play. So i'm curious does it trigger "after one of your rings enter play".
@kempy_nezumi do you have an archived copy of the old Jade Hand Legacy rules?
No. i only archived tournament results / story choices. ruleset was in their forum.
But, you may check AEG Legacy Format in Dropbox
"The Legacy Format is a fan-created alternate tournament format of the Legend of the Five Rings card game. Its aim is to allow a maximum number of cards from the long history of the game to be playable simultaneously, while trying to achieve some sense of balance by removing some of the more abusive cards. The Legacy Format is managed by the Legacy Council at The Jade Hand ."
ok
Togashi is Dragon Clan, but not a Dragon.
You can't fetch him with Miyoshi.
I feel like that comment needs a "hooting track", like on Mauri or Heraldo.
But he is a creature! Which I didn't realize until I double checked, kinda wacky
So the modern wording on Kitsuki Kaagi's Journal seems clearer now; I take it that the person equipping it can't use Tactician to gain a Force bonus from that ability, unless, somehow, the Tactical Ability thing can only be played/taken by Ninja?
As of Ivory, the Tactician keyword grants an ability to the Personality, so you're not choosing them as the performer of the action.
will the honor gains stack?
let's say I bring out a 3ph personality. and trigger guest then the house, will I gain 8 honor?
Lost Traveler Castle seems to trigger first, because it says after you choose the Personality. An Honored Guest is during the Recruiting process, so post-choosing.
yes but the honor gain happens after the personality enters play.
I'm thinking, you choose, trigger HG, proclaim and then SH.
not sure though. hehehe
To me they read to have different timing windows, so you can't choose to change their order.
ok.
thanks.
But, like on the OotV Discord, I think you'd trigger LTC first, then Interrupt with AHG, then the LTC Hnour Gain happens after recruitment.
so I can gain honor from proclaiming and the SH trigger? neat.
I think so. You pick a person to Recruit, which is your first during your Dynasty Phase. The SH ability window begins, and you use its ability. You get the GC reduction. You then being Recruiting them at the reduced cost. During that window, you play AHG, which boosts their PH, and you then gain 3+1PH. Once they've entered play, the second SH effect resolves.
(evil villain laughter). goooooooodddd....Imma brew a deck then.
Don't forget Remember What You Have Seen. It's hilarious with 5PH peeps, like the Ki-Rin.
exactly. plus gempukku set up.
Hm.
Samurai Ki-Rin.
nope.
human only. for the other high ph peeps
Oh right.
Also. Loss of Face. 🙂
Or, you know, Deeds.
yeah. I was thinking of using Seppun Sensei for that.
Dirty Politics, too.
But, yeah. Seppun Sensei is super useful when you're pulling off a combo like that.
That SH would be very powerful in Open format. 3xLies with Naseru's strength and Seppun sensei
40 honor in 1st turn. 🤢
?
There's a part there that I've missed.
You get the full 8 honor from Lies because of Seppun sensei
Lies, Lies, Lies.
You fish for Lies, Lies, Lies with Naseru's Strength.
You announce Recruit. You must choose legal target. Then you may trigger LTC now but we return to Recruit action. In Interrupt window you play AHG that gives Recruit a Proclaim designator. Recruit resolves. As both Proclaim and LTC have same time trigger you choose LTC then AHG honor gain.
Thath how i see this.
So probably you may gain 8 honor from 3 honor personality.
The real question is if you are able to play AHG from Unaligned Stronghold.
ah because of the "even if he does not have your clan alignment" phrase.
Probably its possible but you need to ask other guys.
hmmm...but the main action really is recruit right? does Proclaim check clan alignment?
AHG may overrides 'has the Players Clan Alignment' from rulebook Proclaim.
yeah. best be sure first.
As i I remember a junky LTC deck in Modern with that Sensei that allows to Proclaim Dragons (nonhumans). It was about gaining 8-10 honor from both Proclaiming and LTC.
If it worked this way and if it was legal to play.
ohh. interesting. but for 2nd turn onwards right?
I think I'll use this for my TO8G deck.
Yes. Modern isnt such fast as Legacy. As its singleton and much more limited cardpool.
Oooh. That on the Ninja box.
ah. our version of EDH.
No, wait. "no abilities" would kinda suck.
Hunh. If you play it on the Ratling box, does that mean you get 4 Provinces?
I guess that's a trait, not an ability.
it says abilities....so I guess it doesn't affect traits?
yes....it doesn't affect TO8G. hehehe
To8G?
I'm wondering how that Lies, Lies, Lies with Seppun Sensei deck would work off the Ninja box.
Temple of the 8 Guardians
that's hard but not impossible.
Oh neat.
Yes, only abilities are gone.
You can only Proclaim once per turn.
Neither Kiyoteru Sensei nor An Honored Guest lets you ignore that limit.
Oh.
LTC + Kiyoteru Sensei.
Yeah, that works.
@Alex Jones do you remember if Unstoppable would also affect Response in Onyx?
I don't know.
Hahahaha
😂😂😂
Is it too late to ask AEG?
If you want me to give a ruling, I'll say: No.
Unstoppable means you can't stop it - it doesn't mean you can do stuff after it.
It doesn't prevent Reactions, does it?
Actually, that's the best place to start.... What do the Legacy rules say about Reactions and Unstoppable?
Brook agrees with me: Unstoppable actions can be Response'd.
Just a nitpick, does the force refer here to printed or actual force of your personalities? Thinking if the reduction applies even if your in play personalities are bowed (0F).
Bowed Personalities don't have 0F.
They just don't contribute their force to their army.
ah. gotcha. I'm thinking of the old L5R rules.
What do you mean?
before, a bowed personality was considered as having 0F.
That's never been true.
really? I'm surprised. That's how we used to play back in imperial to jade. huh.
very interesting.
That would mean you could kill Hida Kisada with Arrows From the Woods
If you bowed him he was still 8f, and an Arrows From the Woods would bounce off.
OTOH, his unit's force would be 0, so TDWWM would kill him.
that's how we interpreted it back then. maybe we just shortcut-ed the does not contribute?
Yeah, unit Force vs card Force.
hahaha.
we were lazy kids. hahaha
noice. ahahaha. that Temple of the 8 Guardians deck is looking a bit more workeable in Legacy.
Do multiple copies of Kado stack? So cost is increased by two for every copy of him? https://oracleofthevoid.com/#game=l5r,#cardid=4086
Yes.
And also with The Price of War, and so on.
Since it's "Your Personalities enter play for 2 more Gold." per the modern wording, as well as the old wording.
Both just add an additional +2G to the Personality price, more or less.
He was fun with DPoS and Kage Sensei.
Same with YJA, since Shadowlands was a Clan Alignment back then.
Take the Initiative + Kado, and then some free corrupt gold.
