Will Kakita's trait remove Tokeru's Double Chi keyword in a duel even if the latter has 2 weapons attached?
Oracle of the Void #rules
Messages from the Oracle of the Void #rules Discord channel, copied for Oracle of the Void. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings and the rulebooks may differ.
Yes.
Is this because Kakita's trait triggers later? Kinda like the Kachiko Thunder ruling?
Right. Continuous traits can't overcome any/all removal by "re"-applying constantly. They apply when their conditions are met, and stop applying when they're not, but they can be "turned off" by other effects applied in between, too.
Question about Kuroiban Compound. If the Ninja permanently gains an ability, will this ability still be present even if KC reverted to a holding and you turn it into a Ninja again?
Iirc when the card flips it loses memory. This was during the time when card memory became a huge issue. But that was a long time ago so i may not be correct.
It should be considered two different cards, I believe. For example, when you turn it face down, you can't bow it for gold any more and it can't be targeted by actions that target Holdings. If an effect gave it a permanent boost to production, it would lose it when it became a personality.
However, I think it keeps tokens regardless of state. So if it got a +1G token for production, turned into a ninja, and got turned back into a holding, that token would persist. I believe that works because there's no restrictions on what kind of cards can have tokens, only what kind of cards can receive tokens as defined by their relevant actions.
By the same "state swapping" rule, I'm pretty certain items, followers, ancestors, etc would fall off when it reverts to being a holding as well.
Not that it was in question, it only reinforces the "it's definitely not the same personality card any more" rule.
But those are attachments. They're removed once the personality leaves play as their required to have a personality attached to it. But for permanent abilities, are they considered grafted into the personality even if that personality leaves play?
But to lose card memory, it has to be out of play and face down. AFAIK, KC goes into the discard pile face up.
Yeah I can't remember if that was the case at that time. There were times when cards lost their memory when they went into the discard pile,(regardless of face up or down) The whole Ninjitsu mechanic was just a nightmare rules wise all around.
I don't have a lotus edition rulebook handy to look it up
A personality that leaves play and comes back doesn't come back with its previous traits. Or it didn't forever ago when Rise of the Phoenix was printed.
With previous modifications, I should say
You may want to consult the way back machine for the L5R forms for around 06 if you can. There were questions almost daily about the damn mechanic
And the card states
I remember that because a personality that dies after gaining the Shadowlands trait and is brought back into play loses the Shadowlands trait. Unless the card that brought them back has that additional effect, that is.
Yeah that changed during Diamond I believe
That cards remember the state they were in before they left play
@Brook Cunningham going to tag you in this one 😂 i know it was before your time but you might have insight
Been a player since '97, and I got it Ruled that Kuroiban Compound never "dies" because of timing. But yeah, I was going to ask Kempy to see if he could dredge up something contemporary, but he's travelling through tomorrow, I think.
I meant as a rules guy
I know, just gotta verify my "street" cred as well as my official. ;D
Whelp. there goes the combo.
What was the combo?
Kuroiban + Sly Deceiver + copy Jin-e for chi penalty ability and "Scorpion Clan" keyword. Repeatedly sacrifice to Bayushi Shinzo for duels and card draw.
If the goal is a perpetual scorpion engine, you could use Tejina's Blessings to force Scorpion into it
item will be discarded as well.
True, I misread it to target personality
Ah, yeah that would have been slick!
Its okay, there's another Scorpion dueling combo anyway.
I'll be sure to stop by the tournament and check it out! Running a booth so I won't be able to participate
Just to clarify, is this a functional errata? if so, could this be reflected in the oracle?
I'm unable to find any contemporary rules in 20f CR tied to card memory which supports this citation. So far, a card needs to be both face-down and out of play to lose card memory. Neither of which happens at the same time, as far as I know. As soon as the 2f/3c face-down ninja from Kuroiban is destroyed, it goes to the discard pile face-up.
Otherwise, is it because anything permanently granted to the face-down ninja falls off as it turns face up? (I don't have the LE CR on hand to confirm recent rules tied to face-down cards)
Trying to apply 20f logic to LE is going to be a nightmare
The same card memory Rules were true in Lotus Edition contemporarily.
welcome to legacy
I guess that's why AEG never truly supported it
Hmmm - so which rules back then made it so that the face-down personality is treated a new one?
I think it was probably an arbitrary, fiat Ruling for a highly unusual case. I definitely will add some Oracle text to support it.
Gotcha. An footnote or an oracle updated wording would be great.
M:tG's Gatherer has a rulings section to address FAQs. I think it would be nice if we can build up something similar to our Oracle
As an SnS player at the time this was constantly a judge call during tournaments. Because personalities can never be face down and out of play there was all sorts of these stupid silly little interactions
made the request a month ago with the guy handling oracle. a player hopefully the rulings tab can be integrated.
Keep in mind that everything is very volunteer based, Crowdstrike just fucked every IT professionals lives up for about 100 hours at least, and this game is long dead 😅
Crowdstrike... more like... I just personally handled 300 tickets of deleting CS files all on my own, let alone making my team do another 2,ooo....
I am so damn tired.
My environment used BitLocker. I'm still not sure if this is reality or a fever dream
In the spring I was pondering changing from our Tier 1 EDR/XDR tooling over to CrowdStrike, but opted against it as I had too many projects on the go. W00t!
Bitlocker... "Okay, you logged in? Okay, we gave you access to see your bitlocker key. The one with all the numbers. No, the one that doesn't have any letters in it. Just numbers. No, there isn't an A in it. Just numbers. The other one!"
Well, most of the server fleets are Linux. Most of the key people run macOS or Linux on their endpoints. Still would've sucked to have a couple of thousand regular Windows desktops down.
Shouldn't Ideal Conditions' Battle Ability have Tireless?
EDIT: See below.
Wait, actually no. That Rulebook exception was removed in Samurai Edition.
