I'll try to answer.

The Cavalry rulebook action is once per turn: Absent Engage: Move your unbowed Personality in a Cavalry unit to this battle.

So I assume you are talking about using the Cavalry rulebook action and then using the Stronghold ability?

A player, 1 August 2023 00:21

The Engage phase work just like each other phase. Both players take turns playing Engage actions or passing. When both players pass consecutively, the phase ends.

A player, 1 August 2023 00:57

Ok. Yeah, the Endless Plains of the Unicorn is the 20F legal stronghold. First I would use the stronghold, then for the other battle, I would ask if the defense has an Engage and if they don't, I can use my Engage action for that battle, kind of like a Sneak Attack?

A player, 1 August 2023 00:58

There is an Event that has an Engage action I can use, but defense might still have an Engage

kempy_nezumi (not official), 5 August 2023 16:17 · in reply

Yes, you may use Engage if other player passes. But Engage, as any other action, is played alternately until both players say pass Engage.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 5 August 2023 16:21

Player B attacks, choose Province without any Personalities assigned

Player A (defender): pass Engage Player B (attacker): Absent Engage rulebook Cavalry Player A: also rulebook Absent Engage Cavalry to move in his Cavalry unit at Home or at other battlefield Player B: Engage Sneak Attack Player A: Pass Engage Player B: Engage from Unicorn Stronghold to move in another Personality as he would be opposed now Player A: pass Engage Player B: pass Engage Engage segment ends, we go into Battle. Normally Player A should play first his Battle action, but thanks to SA from Player B, he has first opportunity to play his BA

good to know. I thought all action segments were active player first except specifically battle phases.

Where is that rulebook? I've been having to go by pdfs of rulebooks and the physical mini-rulebooks I have. All the nicely formatted online sources I could find were taken down years ago.

"All the nicely formatted online sources I could find were taken down years ago." - i started this dropbox archive like 7 or 8 years ago.

... ::sheepishly:: ... thank you.

A player, 12 August 2023 18:06

Are any of the Black scroll still legal?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 12 August 2023 18:06 · in reply

Depends on the Format? :/

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 12 August 2023 18:06

None of them have been banned, as far as I recall.

A player, 12 August 2023 18:09

Ok. Thanks...

A player, 14 August 2023 21:46

Hello all. I was wondering if any one knows where one can go and find a site for a ban cards list?

A player, 14 August 2023 22:27

It depends on the format. There is a pin on (link) of kempy's Dropbox that has about everything

A player, 15 August 2023 04:18

Question about the most recent Ring of Earth. It does say Repeatable. If I bow it once to prevent one personality from being moved from the battle, will I be able to prevent another personality from being moved after that? Or just once

kempy_nezumi (not official), 15 August 2023 06:35 · in reply

It means if you have an effect that will straighten a Ring you may use its ability again same turn.

A player, 21 August 2023 10:12

can melee attack from strategy by combined with melee attack from the personality it is targeting?

[attachment: printing_11768_1_details.png] [attachment: printing_11994_1_details.png]
A player, 21 August 2023 10:13

my instinct is - no, but i want to make sure

kempy_nezumi (not official), 21 August 2023 10:19

No. Ranged/Melee can be combined from cards in same unit.

A player, 21 August 2023 10:20

thanks!

A player, 26 August 2023 20:13

What about if you have a personality and a follower with range attack. Can you combined?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 26 August 2023 20:22

In Ivory combined attacks returned but as they introduced Interrupts, every unconditional ranged/melee/fear attack on card in a unit may be combined and increases main attack.

Personality: BA: RA 4 attached Follower: BA: RA 2 attached Item: BA: RA 3 attached Spell: BA: RA 1

You may announce any of those RA's as main attack, choose a target and pay a cost (if exists), then as Interrupt (during Interrupt window) you may increase main RA by value of RA from any other attachment in same unit. You repeat it as Interrupt for every attack you want.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 26 August 2023 20:25

Using Ba: RA as Interrupt counst as using this ability,

kempy_nezumi (not official), 26 August 2023 20:26

As Interrupts are played alternately by every player, your OP may play its own Interrupt to cancel/redicrect or even stop RA after one of your RA increasing Interrupts.

A player, 26 August 2023 20:29

Ok and thanks. Was double checking.

A player, 26 August 2023 20:36

I was wondering with this strong hold. If you can have holdings with the Castle or Siege. Can you bow them one at a time and continue to do range attack, also do you get the 2 honor each time?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 26 August 2023 20:51

First, you cannot combine attacks from cards that aren't units (like Strongholds, Holdings, Senseis etc). Combining works only for abilities from same Unit.

A player, 26 August 2023 20:55

I was not asking about combining the attack. (sorry if I ask the wrong way) Just if you can use them one at a time. For the range 5 attack. Just didn't know if a one time thing or if have like 5 holding with the castle trait. could I bow them one at a time in a battle to target a card. Thanks

kempy_nezumi (not official), 26 August 2023 20:59

No. This stronghold is once-per-turn ability. So only once per turn you may bow any Castle or Siege card (including this Stronghold as in Emperor, strongholds are considered as a card, it wasn't true for some older editions) to make RA 5.

A player, 26 August 2023 21:02

Ok. that what I wanted to know. Thank you

A player, 27 August 2023 22:04

From Thunder Dragon Bay, is it possible during battle to double the ranged attack with Storm of Arrows or Sniping? Even though it's on the stronghold and not a personality?

A player, 27 August 2023 22:41

The way the EE version of Sniping is worded, it seems that one would work.

Storm of Arrows mentions 'a card in play' and I'm not sure how. that would work with Strongholds

[attachment: printing_7312_1_details.png] [attachment: printing_7506_1_details.png]
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 27 August 2023 22:44 · in reply

Storm of Arrows technically shouldn't work, because Strongholds weren't considered "cards" until Emperor or so, I think? However, I don't believe I meticulously Oracle'd every card that referred to a "card" to say "non-Stronghold card", so there may be a current loophole there. 😛

kempy_nezumi (not official), 27 August 2023 22:45

In Oracle you mrp'ed it to "a card that performs"

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 27 August 2023 22:48 · in reply

Yeah, I was possibly arbitrarily deciding what "makes" means; not sure if I had precedent for all those decisions or not. It'd be nice to know if it contemporarily worked with Arrows from the Woods and such or not. :/

A player, 27 August 2023 23:35

OK thanks.. Maybe when I play wiht the stronghold, I should consider Sniping legal and doable, but not Storm of Arrows.

A player, 27 August 2023 23:37

If a personality is already dishonored and they have Chuda Hankyu equipped, can I destroy the weapon and "dishonor" them again?

Answers on: Chuda Hankyu
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 August 2023 00:02 · in reply

No. Everything before the colon is required to happen.

A player, 28 August 2023 00:05

Everything before the colon is a cost to play the action and costs are not paid if there is not a change of board state. You can dishonor a dishonored person as an effect but not as a cost.

A player, 28 August 2023 03:52

If I use unshakable to play night battle or deadly ground from my discard pile, is my opponent helpless to perform actions, even if they do have an ability to destroy terrains?

saaam (not official), 28 August 2023 04:36

I don't understand why they would be.

saaam (not official), 28 August 2023 04:36

It just lets you play it from the discard pile.

saaam (not official), 28 August 2023 04:36

If someone, anyone, can negate it or destroy it, that's fair game.

A player, 28 August 2023 04:38

The terrains would be removed from play due to Unshakable's ability, therefore they cannot be destroyed. Or at least that's how I thought.

saaam (not official), 28 August 2023 04:58

You remove it from play _after_ its action ends, which means either when destroyed during the battle, or after battle resolution as it normally wears off.

saaam (not official), 28 August 2023 04:58

It basically pulls it into play and keeps it there as if you had played it from your hand.

A player, 28 August 2023 10:30

In the Limited Ivory Format, if I don't have the honor to bring a personality in play, can I pay two extra Gold to bring him in?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 August 2023 10:43

No. That rule was removed in Ivory.

A player, 28 August 2023 10:44

ok

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 August 2023 10:53

@saaam Pretty sure you're both mistaken about Unshakable/Terrains; I don't think you can effectively play them together. Even though Terrains enter play and by special rules their effects continue while they're in play, their action has "ended" as soon as they enter and Unshakable would remove them immediately, at which point they'd stop affecting the battle. @Alex Jones is the Lion; he would remember better and can confirm.

Alex Jones (rules official), 28 August 2023 14:17

I'm pretty sure that was how they worked, yes.

Alex Jones (rules official), 28 August 2023 14:18

But it depends on the terrain - some have immediate effects, which can still be useful.

Alex Jones (rules official), 28 August 2023 14:19

Eg Thick Marsh, or Unstable Ground.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 August 2023 14:43

Right! The exception to what I said being Terrains with instant/immediate effects, but most have delayed or ongoing ones. Unfamiliar Ground is the only one that comes to mind that would combo sneakily with Unshakable like Whiney wants, as it instantly bows cards with a clause to straighten them if it's destroyed, but if it's RFG, then whoops, can't be destroyed anymore! 😛

Alex Jones (rules official), 28 August 2023 14:48

Yeah, that was a good combo

A player, 29 August 2023 01:57

BTW, Thanks for answering the question.

A player, 29 August 2023 23:38

I have a question on this stronghold. When you put a ring into play can you at some point put it back into your hand to put it back into play by it's wording?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 29 August 2023 23:43 · in reply

Only via card effects, not simply by choice.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 29 August 2023 23:48

However, that said, by Ivory/20F Rules, the Ring put into play by the Stronghold does count for Enlightenment. There's no need in those formats to put it into play by its own text.

A player, 30 August 2023 00:03

For the event The New Order, do you win an Honor victory if you recieve ten more Honor points from where you are at that point, or does the event mean that in order to win on Honor, you have to reach 50 instead of 40?
