Ok. Thanks
Does anyone know it the stronghold for the Naga (Knot of Serpents) is still legal or not? And Sense it starts out with -20 honor do not lose the game?

Siege cards with the kabuto icon on them are not legal for non-Siege-format play.
Ok. Thanks
This battle ability (on any card) target an enemy card with attachments: destroy it. Can one target the attach cards with this ability?
Attachment is a card without attachment. So yes, you may taget any attachment with this ability.
Cool. Thanks
It's illegal eg in Obsidian Hand legacy format and also in any format that forbids cards with printed "kabuto" icon in their text.
So no Kabuto cards. Got it. Thanks. I now what to look for.
Let me know if I got this right. If I am defending with one personality against two personalities and play the above card it should go like this: 1) I send my person home 2) attacker sends one of theirs home 3) I dont have anyone in battle so the battle action ends and I gain two honor.
Are you asking if it goes round the table repeatedly until someone can't send home a Personality?
Each player sends home one Personality, max.
The resolution of an action's effects don't stop just because one of those effects doesn't happen.
However, because each player must target a Personality, if a target can't be found, action resolution stops, and no further effects happen.
So, if I have Personality there, and no-one else does, I'll send someone home, and gain no honour.
(Apologies for not checking the rules first 🙂 )
During Emperor you could play DM even if there was only your Personality a battlefield to gain 1 honor.
There's eg ruling about DM and Tatsuzo ability:
thanks !
But that was durin Emperor where efects were resolving one after another even if any failed. Just checking Twenty Festivals CR for Legacy/Modern. It seems you may announce it, but as AkodoGilador wrote above, if during resolution there's no legal target, actions stops.
Can one receive honor from your Imperial personal cards when using this stronghold?
Gates is an unaligned stronghold; it doesn’t create a false clan for Imperial and align them to you. To my understanding there’s only one stronghold that does that, although the name escapes me.
It won’t let you Proclaim anyone outside of the draft rules, I believe.
When you bring them in during you dynasty phase?
Ok. Thanks for the help
Even during draft, you can’t choose ‘Imperial’ as a clan. While this is storyline an Imperial city, it doesn’t align Imperial personalities to you. You can compare to Journey’s End Keep Experienced to see what that would look like.
As said above, this Stronghold is for Draft format only (it's also banned in Open/Legacy formats). In Draft you choose two clans and both are aligned to you, so you may Proclaim Personalities from both selected clans.
There are a few cards, some personalities and many Fate, that says, "Bow a card in a unit." Does that mean you may bow the Personality first if you choose to?
Yes. They allow to bow any card in unit, including Personalities equipped with atachments.
it's nice example. First ability allows to bow only attachments or Personality without attachments. Second ability, as a cost of dishonoring your guy, allows to bow any (opposed) card in unit.
Good example. There are other cards in my online decks that do similar things, forgot the names of the cards. Thanks for the answers.
Can one enter/issue a Duel while bowed?
And how many times can you focuses from your fate deck?
Or can someone tell where to find the rules on dueling. Thanks
Depends on card. Some cards or abilities allow to challenge while bowed.
In last ruleset: 4 times, from hand or from deck
Twenty Festivals rulebook or Comprehensive Rules.
Dueling was changing through editions. So depends on format choose correct rulebook.
Ok and thanks
Can Merchant Patronage interrupt an action on your own holding (to increase its Honor gain by 1)?
Uhh. It says right on it "If the action is on another player's Holding, [...]".
Right, it says that if that’s the case, I can choose who gains or loses Honor from it. But if the printed action gains Honor, and that’s what I want it to do…
The second part is linked to the first one triggering. So no.
imagine if it was interpreted the other way. Redirecting honor loss when you bow a handful of different holdings would be delicious.
I'm having flashbacks to Jade Arc and using The Wind's Truth (especially pre-MRP) to toss the Honour Loss from bringing corrupt Holdings into play at the oppoent. Good times.
that's what fair and balanced feels like 😉
yes, you can.
you just skip first sentence
if you innterrupt honor gain from your holding
that's how i understand this.
but just checked and i was wrong
🙂
{Post}by {Bayushi Mamoru} » Fri Dec 20, 2013 3:36 pm Apologies for the delay. Of course the problem was not specifically Merchant Patronage but the implications of the ruling.
As you may have read in the pdf detailing the {rules changes for Ivory Edition, page 4,} when an action's effects start with "if", that is not treated as a condition for a particular effect, but rather as a restriction affecting the entire action. The player (or the action being interrupted) must be able to meet that restriction to the best of his knowledge in order to legally take the action (following Good Faith Rule).
So, if the action is not in another player's Holding, you can't interrupt that action with Merchant Patronage. [Image] L5R CCG Rules Team
Hmm. It's poorly worded, because it makes it feel like the second part is dependent on the first sentence being valid/triggering.
Yeah, that.
Okay.
Loss of constraints block; still sad.
I have only one Lion persoanlity that has Naval and a battle action printed on him. As far as I know, that is the only Lion personality that has that trait. If I am in a battle with many Lion clan personalities and he's the only one in the group that has Naval, is it still possible for him to use his battle ability as the first Naval attack/invasion action?
What Ruleset?
I play Legacy most of the time. Sometimes I play Modern, but mostly Legacy. So in that case I believe you don't need everyone in your army to be Naval, you can still do the Naval action first.
Right. Regular Legacy uses the Ivory/20F Naval, which is "Engage: If you are the Attacker, you have the first opportunity to take a Battle action, which must come from a card in a Naval Personality’s unit. Passing that action doesnot count toward ending the action round." Obsidian Hand Legacy, the format that will be played at GenCon 2023 uses a variation that restores "performing" and allows it at every battle (like Emperor did, I think): "Engage: Once per battle, target your performing Naval Unit led by an unbowed Naval Personality at the current battlefield: You have the first opportunity to take a Battle action. This action must be performed by a card in that Naval Personality's unit." Either way, you only need 1 Naval guy, not the whole army like the older Rules from Gold.
Ok, thanks. just confirming for a friend.
Also, while the actual rules answer was already covered, I'll note that Lion is actually probably third for the most Naval personalities (behind Mantis and Phoenix): Ikoma Ayumi XP, Ikoma Otemi XP and XP3, Matsu Mikura base and XP. Pretty good for a landlocked clan.
Now, which of those are actually worth playing, that's a different story. 😉

(Plus three more parts, but you can find those)
FIve different Lion personalities? I will check them out and maybe put some of those in the deck. I didn't think Phoenix would have very many Naval, but it is my second favorite clan. The Lion persoanlity I discovered is not Unique so i can put three in Dynasty.
What (if any) Mulligan rule exists in Modern?
Hello all. I'm looking for a update rule book on the Scout (Reconnaissance and recon) rules. Building a new deck and would like read up how this works. Thanks
It's all on the cards. There were no Rulebook rules associated with them.
Ok then. Thanks
Skimming the Modern Rules, I don't believe there is one.
Oh, and if you're building Modern or Legacy, do be sure to use the Oracle wordings. "Recon" was a thing before "Reconnaissance" was, so some of the older Recon stuff has been reworded to fit the newer version.
Theres rulebook 1st turn Cycle in Modern like in Twenty Festivals.
As whole people just need to know that Modern is like a Twenty Festivals format with fancy deckbyilding restriction, extended card pool (back to Samurai) and some tweaks for older mechanics (like eg performing or Samurai era Legacy starting Holdings).
Ah, yes, sorry. I should've clarified that there's no Mulligan specific to Modern Rules, but it does largely use the 20F Ruleset which has Cycle.
Hello all. I would like to know if a card was a battle and went home bow could he go to other battle if he/she had wording like this? If he would be opposed, move him to the current battlefield. Thanks
There's nothing preventing it unless you were present during battle resolution, you can never be in two battle resolutions on the same turn
Ok. that makes sense. Thanks for the information.
Unless you play strict Diamond or earlier edition.
Is the top line an ability or a trait?
Trait, because it doesn't have a bold-faced keyword indicate a phase or phases during which to play it.
Unless you're using At Your Command, Horiuchi Wakiza, March Beyond Hope, Moto Chagatai XP4, Shinjo Shono XP3, or The Dead Do Not Rest (in the various formats where some or all of those are legal).
I have a question relevant to the newer rules of Cavalry playing Ivory rules Unicorn. Is it possible to do two Engage actions in a row? The first to bring in a Cavalry unit attacking the next province over, and then do another Engage action for the first battle you assigned to?
