I have a question on the condition of certain cards like these were they lower you force on a personality. Now the question is if you have a Item (like a armor & sword) which give 1/1 and 3/1 adding up to a 4 force plus. Would these actions on these cords only work on the personality living you still with the 4 force or does it also take away the item force bonus? Thanks..

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 3 September 2023 19:29 · in reply

It would give you a sufficient penalty to reduce you to 0. A 3F Personality with a +1F Armor and +3F Weapon would receive a -7F penalty from these cards.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 3 September 2023 19:29

And -7F from Event is permanent, so in the future a Personality must gain at least 1F from other bonuses or modifiers to go over 0F

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 3 September 2023 19:30 · in reply

I changed my example to better fit the question, so now your clarification doesn't match. ;P

kempy_nezumi (not official), 3 September 2023 19:30

Changed 😄

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 3 September 2023 19:32 · in reply

It's a little misleading too, though. Yes, the -7F is permanent, but the Personality in the example has 3 base F and the two items, so as long as he still has all of those, he doesn't have to get 8 more F to get back over 0.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 3 September 2023 19:36

yes, you are right. changed (for the last time). if still wrong i will just delete

A player, 3 September 2023 19:39

Ok thanks all. Was just checking on the wording of the cards. The target a personality thing. wasn't sure on the items thing effect.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 3 September 2023 19:40

Also Items' +XF aren't bonuses, they are modifiers.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 3 September 2023 19:41

So cards like Breaking the Rhythm don't affect Item's modifiers

kempy_nezumi (not official), 3 September 2023 19:46

Also, if i remember correctly, cards like BtR also permanently negate permanent bonuses/penalties. So if you play BtR on a guy who was reduced by Second Doom of Crab from example above, his permanent -7F is gone forever.

A player, 3 September 2023 19:53

Well that a explains it more in detail on the cards. Bonuses modifiers example. Thanks

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 3 September 2023 20:50 · in reply

Not under the last Ruleset. The negation only lasts as long as it lasts, and if it's negating an already-ongoing effect that lasts longer, the ongoing effect will reassert.

Please does anyone have information about the reasoning behind two of the WOH Ivory Rules: Firstly, why only 5 honour per turn, doesn't that make it too easy for the Crane Clan with the 20F stronghold? Proclaiming anyone + bowing the stronghold is already 5 honor. Would 6 Honor be a better target for gaining on the path to honor victory? And why are the fortress abilities shut off? Are they considered too powerful?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 6 September 2023 05:20

Because WoH Ivory rules were made during first part of Ivory, before 20F base set was released. And was never updated later.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 6 September 2023 05:21

And yes, Fortress Abilities were designed for Celestial/Emperor power level and they were too strong in Ivory environment.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 6 September 2023 05:22

Also dont forget that Ivory WoH rules are fanmade, not official.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 6 September 2023 05:24

So you may modify them for specific cardpool you use. Changing to 6 or even 7 honor in Honor path in 20F environment sounds reasonable. Especially with presence of Honor keyword in 20F Arc environment. Also increasing Dishonor path requirement by one because of same reason.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 6 September 2023 05:26

Its a good idea to rethink Ivory WoH changes for full 20F environment.

Thanks! Makes sense now

A player, 7 September 2023 22:32

I have played War of Honor many times against myself and from what I understand, you need at least eight Honor in one turn in order to advance on the Path to Victory for honor. I've always played it that way. Makes the Event where you gain eight Honor for destroying a Province very handy.

A player, 8 September 2023 03:43

Would love to see any videos of War Of Honor.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 8 September 2023 06:11 · in reply

Yes, original WoH requires 8 Honor in one turn, but we are talking about fanmade modification for early Ivory environment. If you would like to use early Ivory legal decks with WoH multiplayer system it will be much harder to gain 8 honor per turn than in Celestial/Emperor or while using original WoH decks.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 8 September 2023 06:12

Also this Ivory "patch" is interesting as it speedup first turns. This version of rulebook is available in Dropbox/AlternateFormats/WoH

I was always under the impression that the Ring of Water was changed back to the original way of playing it. Your opponent plays a terrain, then you destroy the terrain (Superior Tactics, Discovering Anvil of Earth, etc), then you play a terrain of your own. If you then win the battle with that terrain, you can play the Ring of Water. You might even play a terrain first, then the terrain is destroyed, then you play another. But doesn't it require two terrains to be played in order to play the ring?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 September 2023 11:42 · in reply

Yes, per the Ring of Water's MRP, at least two Terrains would've had to have been played during the battle in order to bring it into play by its trait. Everything you described above is accurate, except "if you win the battle with that Terrain". The conditions are that you destroy any cards or provinces during resolution (so you don't even have to win; could've been a tie, and your Terrain doesn't have to still be around at that time).

A player, 9 September 2023 11:47

Thanks for the clarification.

A player, 9 September 2023 12:27

Wouldn't it really just depend on what legal arc you are playing in?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 September 2023 12:27

Well, it seemed TML was asking about the MRP.

A player, 9 September 2023 12:28

Oh gotcha I misread that 😅 thank you

A player, 9 September 2023 21:34

So you have to play a terrain and destroy a terrain in the wording to play it? It can't be one or the other.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 September 2023 21:35 · in reply

Per the 20F MRP, yes.

A player, 10 September 2023 00:31 · in reply

It would depend on which version of the ring, but I was specifically referring to the most recent 20F Ring of Water, which seems pretty close to the way they worded it to the original Ring of Water.

A player, 10 September 2023 05:07

Also, all of the terrains I have in my decks destroy and replace another terrain already in play. Makes it easier to bring the ring in.

A player, 16 September 2023 13:46

Do I have to have the favor to pay the cost of discarding the favor?

A player, 16 September 2023 13:47

Since the text is "before discarding"?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 16 September 2023 13:58 · in reply

No. Alternate means to pay the cost of discarding the Favor can be used even if you don't have it.

A player, 17 September 2023 02:00

Does anyone know if the following combo works: I bow a Suana Dojo plus three Officer's Lodge to recruit Matsu Chizuki and search for and attach Zaiko when she enters play? So I am asking if the timing works and also if Officer's Lodge is stackable?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 17 September 2023 02:51 · in reply

No, it doesn't quite work. All the timing is fine, but the 3 Lodge Interrupts cannot all target and attach the same Follower, reducing it by a cumulative 3G. The first one would attach Zaiko for 1 less, and you'd need 2 more Gold than you described, then the other 2 would do nothing (or could be used on other Followers, if you have them and the Gold for them).

A player, 17 September 2023 07:22

The newest way Cavalry is done, is it only one Engage action for your entire turn? Or can you do it once per battle? From what I understand it's once per turn, unless you have a second action from certain Unicorn strongholds.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 17 September 2023 07:38

Yes. It's rulebook player ability, once per turn.

saaam (not official), 17 September 2023 18:22

Hunh. So Retribution with Cav is... not that great. Lame.

Alex Jones (rules official), 17 September 2023 18:39

Only if you used it while defending.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 17 September 2023 18:42

Anyway in OBH Legacy, after Strongholds are revealed both players choose what Cavalry they use, classic one (as there's still Cavalry segment) or Cavalry Engage. This can't be changed during game. So it's possible that in same game player A uses old Cavalry and player B Engage. With Engage you may outmaneveur classic Cavalry unit.

A player, 17 September 2023 19:22

In OBH Legacy, are nonhuman and creature two separate keywords?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 17 September 2023 19:26

No. Check Oracle. creature = nonhuman, sailor = naval, diplomat = courtier etc.

A player, 17 September 2023 21:00 · in reply

OK thanks!

A player, 17 September 2023 22:07

So it's possible for one player to use classic cavalry, and the other player to use the newer cavalry during the same game?? I've never played it like thata before. I would always choose the classic cavalry. With the classic Cav, you can send two or three. units to attack an undefended province, whereas the Engage you can only send one unit, and hope that the unit is strong enough to take one province. As a side note, I have seen cards that read, "all Mantis, sailor and/or Naval cards receive plus X Force...."

kempy_nezumi (not official), 17 September 2023 22:09

If your gameplan is about building one gigantic Conqueror Cavalry unit, theres none advantage of old Cavalry. Engage Cavalry also helps against any cards that stops from assigning as new Cavalry is just movement.

A player, 18 September 2023 23:04

I'm pretty sure I already know the answer is "no", but I'm gonna ask to make sure...

A player, 18 September 2023 23:06

If I bring into play two corrupted Geisha House and use two Rhetoric to give the honor loss to an opponent, can I bring into play Bayushi?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 18 September 2023 23:08

You're correct that the answer is "no". Rhetoric just moves the recipient, it doesn't change the source.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 18 September 2023 23:09

Also, the MRP of Rhetoric won't redirect losses from traits.

Tonbo Jairyu: If I invest 5g, does he have a printed ability?

Answers on: Tonbo Jairyu
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 26 September 2023 21:22 · in reply

There isn't a specific "Rule" directly addressing this case, but despite the fact it feels weird because he's granting it to himself, I believe it would technically be a printed ability, because it's an ability printed on him. Apologies if this runs counter to any past ruling that I didn't look up while making this up off the top of my head. 🙂

A player, 26 September 2023 21:26 · in reply

Thanks, makes sense.

A player, 26 September 2023 22:00

Question: what happens if I use Yokuni sensei and the event that resolves is A New Wall? Is the holding discarded since the event is not discarded?

saaam (not official), 26 September 2023 22:17

By the MRP wording, A New Wall would fish the Holding and stick it in the Province, and then discard itself normally, without Yokuni Sensei messing things up.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 27 September 2023 06:10 · in reply

really? so any ability/trait on a card that gives card itself same stuff is considered as printed?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 27 September 2023 06:13

In EE it was more clear as it mentioned only something "that exist". ""Base" refers to a stat, keyword, ability, or trait that exists on a card or other entity as printed (following the most recent printing) or initially created, without modifications from effects. A stat’s base value will not change."

While in 20F: "Refers to a stat, keyword, or other game text as printed on the most recent printing of the card, without modification. If the card is a created card, “printed” refers to the text it was created with."

What was reason behind this change?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 27 September 2023 06:21

So, now in Legacy she has "printed" Naval when she has Thunder Spell attached?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 27 September 2023 06:25 · in reply

In my opinion no as Invest "gives" - and it means that it's created ability.

A player, 27 September 2023 21:03 · in reply

Maybe it means "without modifications from other cards"? If so, Tonbo Jairyu would have a printed ability from invest but Guidance in War does not give printed traits or abilities from invest because it comes from another card? In your example above, she would not have printed Naval because it depends on a modification from another card? Just guessing sorry.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 27 September 2023 21:07

Ok. what about cards that have X keyword when you have Courtesy or Compassion?

A player, 27 September 2023 21:46

I guessing it is printed as it comes from her own card? Asako Kazuki "Battle, bow: Fear 4, with +1 strength if the target is Shadowlands, and +1 strength if you have Compassion." would have a printed fear 5 if you have compassion. And I think it would still be a printed fear effect even if the target is Shadowlands?
