I just realized how many cards Michael Kaluta illustrated for L5R. I'm shocked he worked for AEG for so long.
I was thinking about building an "All Kaluta" personalities and fate deck. Events and holdings would be used to make the deck actually function since he never produced art for any holding apart from Anvil of Despair (exp).
Has anyone else dabbled in building an "all one artist" deck?
A player, 6 April 2023 21:14
Not since playing an Artwalk deck in MtG. :)
saaam (not official), 6 April 2023 21:26
People used to do it the other way, where they'd pick a card to use as sleeve backers with transparent card sleeves.
I won't lie. I definitely got the idea from my "Very Guay" Commander deck where every card is illustrated by Rebecca Guay.

Anyone have a recommendation as to which Starter Display box from the final sets was the best? Emperor, Gempukku or Twenty Festivals?
A player, 8 April 2023 03:11
I liked 20F the most, personally.
saaam (not official), 8 April 2023 03:31
Emperor Gempukku would be the most useful, I would argue.
saaam (not official), 8 April 2023 03:31
Huge cardset, and good rules.
A player, 8 April 2023 18:18
I got the 20f set and it's been awesome!
A player, 12 April 2023 21:20
Are the people running the story tournament at GenCon in this discord?
A player, 12 April 2023 21:36
I'm working with a small team to try and create a new set extending the story of Onyx Edition. I'm concerned that the outcome of the story tournament may influence the story of the game to the point where what we've come up with so far may no longer be relevant. I'm hoping to be able to talk to someone about those concerns at some point.
A player, 12 April 2023 21:50
is this story tournament published somewhere?
A player, 12 April 2023 21:51
I heard about it from facebook.
A player, 12 April 2023 21:52
I believe it was being hosted by PlayCCG. (A good move on their part, as it allows them to sell a bunch of cards to people who would need to build new decks, like me)
saaam (not official), 12 April 2023 21:54
So it's like a fan tournament by a store that sells cards? There's no official story any more anyway, so it has no impact.
A player, 12 April 2023 21:55
Looks like they are going to get Shawn and Fred to write some story based on the results.
saaam (not official), 12 April 2023 21:56
Hunh. That's kinda impressive, actually.
A player, 12 April 2023 21:56
which is... as close to official as such a thing is going to get...
I thought that all the writers and such had stepped away permanently.
A player, 12 April 2023 21:58
They have.. .but permantly usually only means until someone waves money at them.
saaam (not official), 12 April 2023 21:59
🧐
saaam (not official), 12 April 2023 21:59
How... much? 'Cause I've got ideas, and possibly a little money to burn.
A player, 12 April 2023 22:00
message fred and shawn on facebook, lol.
A player, 12 April 2023 22:02
I can't be sure, but I'm not aware of Fred, Shawn being on here.. .and I know Jeremy sold playccg to someone, but don't know that person.
saaam (not official), 12 April 2023 22:04
I would pay money for some Official Fiction® about Toturi coming back to the realm of the living, and wearing socks with his sandals. And eating oatmeal during every scene.
A player, 12 April 2023 22:42
Holy crap I didn't know about this
A player, 23 April 2023 22:31
Mike Petke now owns and runs playccg. He lives in Portland.
A player, 23 April 2023 23:35
Mike bought it? Nice!
A player, 24 April 2023 01:37
Yep. I play games with him on Sun and Moon when he has time
A player, 24 April 2023 01:38
He has been treating me right when I order.
A player, 24 April 2023 01:39
well that's important. Say Benten, do you know of any Entwives? 😛
A player, 24 April 2023 01:40
Weren't they all killed in the War of the Last Alliance?
A player, 24 April 2023 01:41
oh probably. I remembered you said you are a lot like Greybeard so I thought I'd ask
A player, 24 April 2023 01:42
Oh! It's a gaming... classification, I guess? Which is also an old word. For 'that wizened old guy with the grey beard in the corner, who's been around for too long'. I think it's a British military thing, most gaming things seem to be.
A player, 24 April 2023 01:43
Oh i see.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 24 April 2023 02:23 · in reply
Also, were you confusing that with the Ent Treebeard? 😛
A player, 24 April 2023 02:26
Well, I wasn't going to say something. <.<;;
A player, 24 April 2023 03:19
Oh am i getting names mixed up? It was Treebeard, not Greybeard?
A player, 24 April 2023 03:20
Gandalf the Greybeard
A player, 24 April 2023 03:34
Gandalf the grey
A player, 24 April 2023 03:36
Yeah but he probably had a grey beard also. Maybe I was thinking Treebeard had grey bark
A player, 24 April 2023 03:36
Yes, he had a beard. I don't think that moniker was ever applied though
A player, 24 April 2023 03:37
I think Greymane
saaam (not official), 24 April 2023 03:37
And then became Gandalf the White.
A player, 24 April 2023 03:37
That's kind of a beard...
saaam (not official), 24 April 2023 03:37
So I wonder if he started out as Gandalf the Black. A goth phase, if you will.
A player, 24 April 2023 03:38
Greyhame, not greymane
A player, 24 April 2023 03:39
The Rohan called him that
A player, 24 April 2023 03:40
Unless you're thinking of greymane from WoW
A player, 24 April 2023 03:40
And greybeard could be pulled from Skyrim
A player, 24 April 2023 03:40
I played WoW for exactly one month and never left pandaland.
A player, 24 April 2023 03:40
Skyrim maybe.
A player, 24 April 2023 03:42
I always imagined Radagast the Brown with brown hair and beard, Saruman the White with white hair. I would imagine the two Blues with nice blue robes but white or black beards.
I really despise what they did with Radagast in the movies. Saruman thought Radagast was rather stupid for being deceived by him, but Gandalf pointed out he wasn't and he was too honest to think Saruman would be lying. He wasn't a near-insane filthy little weirdo.
A player, 24 April 2023 22:55
You are correct, Radagast was never an insane, filthy weirdo. They took a lot of artistic license in the Hobbit movies. They also put in a romantic love interest between an Elf and a Dwarf that was never in the book. Those cards look interesting. I wonder if they would ever come up with a story about what happened with the two Blue wizards? Not much information about them.
A player, 29 April 2023 18:16
I think MERP (some of whose lore was used in ME The Wizards) made up a story for the blue wizards but it wasn't canon
A player, 29 April 2023 19:26
There was some weirdness about it, I think. Like, it wasn't in the writings, but both the Tolkein Estate and MERP talked a lot about how they worked together, so was it canon or was it not. Like, Valve didn't make Hunt Down The Freeman, but they let it be sold on their own site, so is it tacitly approved by them.
