In case of Siege i'd say that Clan War is imho much much better than Heart of Darkness.

check this DropBox, i put there some L5R stuff including decklist, rulebooks, faq etc. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/vsabdrqgcqfqepp/AACNYaigHIRNTZvZVRq9K0joa?dl=0
Thanks a bunch!
The ban lists will certainly be helpful, that was one of tbe big things I was wondering about.
here's a collection of late Emperor decklists that I've found handy -- https://www.strangeassembly.com/2013/gates-of-chaos-decklists-1
there is also the Akodo War College -- https://akodowarcollege.wordpress.com/category/emperor-arc/
Thanks a bunch, much appreciated!
Also in DropBox above. Decks/Emperor folder. Every deck with GoC, AM, CoM in its name is from late Emperor as well.
Anyway expansion acronym in decks name there means its a deck built around this moment. So its also helpful to someone who would like to how some decks looked eg at beginning of arc (EE), in the middle (TA) or in the end (GoC, CoM)
Ya I noticed that, very handy.
Also just curious if anyone was familiar with that Era of play, I don't think I saw a single Scorpion Deck playing Exquisite Silk Works which reads..
Cost: 2 Bow: Produce 2 Limited: Target a dishonorable Personality. His controller loses 1 Honor.
Am I missing something here? Seems to me it should be a staple on Scorpion Dishonor strategies. Am I really overestimating thr card that much?
is there another reliable place to buy expansion packs that are "out of stock" in fantasy flight games' site? i'm located in asia btw
re: living card game not the alderac cards (i have tons but not planning to collect all)... i want to collect every card because of great artwork
Exquisite Silk Works was released in Gates of Chaos that got premiere in September 2013. It was after Gencon and few month before Ivory edition. Also as it was really late Emperor, meta was dominated by military decks, and Scorpion dishonor decks werent popular/viable. And even in dishonor field, Yasuki Crab dishonor deck was more powerful than Scorpion. If you check eg those GoC decklist from Strange Asssembly above, there's this Crab dishonor that won Second Chance tourney at Euros and it contains 3xESW
don't know. I never bought any L5R LCG product. Best way is probably to hunt whole collection from someone than separate packs
Ah ok, that makes sense actually. I saw some other strange assembly articles for I think Torn Asunder and back and saw lots of scorpion wins and then saw there was only 1 scorpion deck here, so makes sense.

new player question - what is the advantage of using torrential rain over entrapping terrain? that it can be re-used with something like scribe and can't be stopped by effects that destroy terrain?
It's instant.
Whereas you can drop an Entrapping Terrain, and get hit with duels, Ranged Attacks, etc.
Plus it's 4FV, and depending on the arc, you can equip and use in one go.
got it, thank you
Also, under the proper set up, it can lock your opponent out of every battle.

Battle: Target your unit in your home: Straighten it and move it to the current battlefield.
The text on the card doesn't line up with the text from Oracle. But I know the text from Oracle is correct because this card was reigning terror throughout my playgroup. Why can't isn't the original text available?
That's because the game went through some templating and rewording in latter arcs, as AEG changed some rules and such.
So a ton of old cards got reworded to modern templates, and sometimes got changed a lot.
I'm referring to the "...that has not been in any battle during its resolution this attack phase." That text is wrong. Tireless assault allowed for multiple province taking through big units.
Oh.
That's because the current/recent rules clarified that Units can't be in a Battle Resolution more than once a turn, so it's a game rule, as opposed to card effects and such.
See: Forced March
But that rule...didn't it go into effect at the start of Diamond?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This card was printed in Gold.
As its bridge expansion. So in Gold you could be with same battle resolutions with same unit. So thats the restriction in text. When Diamond arrived it became rulebook restriction and this part of cards text became obsolete. Thats also why in Oracle it looks like this.
More than once per Attack Phase.
Also, it wasn't in the original rules for Diamond, IIRC
I checked. it was introduced in Lotus, so it was possible by rulebook in Diamond.
I'm pretty concerned. I want to use the card with original text but that text isn't available in Oracle. It's for a GE deck and when the card was first printed it didn't have the text that's showing on the card in ORACLE.
But wasn't first printing of Tireless Assault in Heaven & Earth that was dual bugged gold/diamond expansion?
H&E version:
Training Grounds version:
H&e was the first version, yeah
So it's in there
So, just to summarize: What we've determined is that this card was never able to legally have a single unit move in and destroy multiple Provinces in the same Attack Phase; you're remembering it wrong and/or it was played wrong. The original text is what you see printed on the card images in the above post from Kempy, with the text itself preventing it from being in more than one Battle if it had already been through a Resolution that Phase. The Oracle text is how it would be printed under Emperor Edition rules, because the "second battle rule" was in the rulebook and not on the cards at that point. I hope that clarifies things?
Sounds to me like someone didn't know about the second battle phase rule, and tried to use it that way when that part of the text was assumed.
Which is unfortunately easy to do...
Hey everyone, I'm new to this discord. I was a huge L5R fan back in the day, from release to the scorpion clan coup. Recently I stumbled upon a group of people that are hardcore into the RPG and I got the itch to get back into the ccg. I ordered the 20 festivals starter box and a booster box of each expansion legal in the final cycle before the game was discontinued.
Boy are you in for some disappointment.
I've definitely found that information about the CCG seems to be purged from the internet
So good news bad news.
I'll see about digging up a link to kempy_nezumi's Box account, where he's archived almost every arc's rulebooks, various decklists, and so on.
Side note, you can play the L5R CCG by yourself or online with others with the Sun and Moon client.
The bad news is that AEG really, really changed the game, especially for the last couple of arcs. You wouldn't recognize the rules, the setting, almost any of it, if you got out that far back.
That should do the trick there. From there you'll find pinned posts with tons of info.
Also includes community-made rules for various new formats, across either the entire CCG, or chunks of it spanning several years, like Modern for all the new card faces, and so on.
I tried getting back into the game for Ivory/20F, and couldn't stomach all the changes.
Awesome, thanks. I've played a few games with a buddy over the weekend and I think I have a handle on the rule changes. Its definitely evolved but still feels like the same game. I thought it was pretty fun and playable, and felt more interactive than back in the day
I know its a dead game with no players, so I'm treating it like a board game I alone own. I'm excited to build some decks but I have so many cards now that changing the starter decks is an intimidating experience
Its actually kind of nice not knowing what the meta was back in the day, but I'm curious if there is any info online about strategies. I can't seem to find much at all
There's plenty of players left, and with some timing, you can find people to play with online. At the same time, there's still in-person players left. There was a tourney in Europe recently with a bunch of people showing up and playing Clan Wars arc (Imperial through SCC).
Oh that's pretty neat
Most sites about strategy and the like are gone, and you have to use archive.org to fish them out from a decade ago.
I tried using Archive on the old AEG forums which looked like a treasure trove, but most of the links were dead even if I could see the forums
Yeah, those are gone. And forums are notoriously hard to archive, so those are mostly gone.
Especially the AEG ones, they abruptly shut them down when the sale was announced, and then they had multiple backups fail, so the community couldn't rescue them. Sad, really.
Its definitely sad
Its great to see that there are a few discords like this one around
Yeah, IRC for the modern decade.
Which ironically was one of the ways we discussed the game online back in 95-97
Mmhmm.
I'm pretty excited about my new cards, so if anyone has any resources that would help me build some decks from this era it would be much appreciated!
Well, for Emperor/Ivory, there's still sites with content up: https://www.strangeassembly.com/tag/l5r/page/6
Navigate further back and you'll get deck lists and set reviews and all that.
That looks great, thanks so much!
Does Oracle have a proxy creator? I've found some old posts that seem to suggest that. I'd love to create a card of my rpg character 🙂
It has a thing that you can print existing cards nine per page
Check the pins for kempy's box account
I pinned it a long time ago since we kept handing it out
Awesome! That is going to be a much better solution compared to what I was doing. Right now I'm specifically looking for blank personality cards so I can create cards for people in my rpg group. I don't suppose that's a thing?
Check the pin for kempy's box. I'm pretty sure there are some photoshop templates in there
Perfect, I'm looking now. Thank you!
Sadly there's no templates here. But that's good idea to add them.
you may search for magic set editor, there are exist data for non-mtg games like l5r
try here, non-magic set editor shoudl have them https://magicseteditor.boards.net/page/downloads
This is absolutely perfect, thank you so much!
Does the "AND" word on Green Nightshade Blend mean a personality needs to have all 3 kinds of tokens for it to be destroyed? "Limited: Target two Personalities: You may transfer one or more tokens from one to the other. Destroy each of the two that now has a Fire, Poison, and Sake token."
Or will a poison token suffice?
All three.
ah crap.
If only one were required, it would say "or".
thought so. thanks.
