Anyone know of any playable decks based off The False Path SH?

A player, 1 February 2021 23:47

If you're running it as an open deck you can easily slot in a bunch of dragon clan monks in there.

saaam (not official), 1 February 2021 23:48

Looking for Emperor arc. Can't seem to Google any decklists. I'm slowly going through the cardbase to figure out what works and doesn't, but that's a lot of cards, and I never played Emperor arc, sadly.

saaam (not official), 3 February 2021 07:02

Uhh, did Emperor not use the starting holding(s)?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 3 February 2021 07:13

Starting Holdings (Border Keep and Bamboo Harvesters ig you go second) were in Celestial and Emperor

kempy_nezumi (not official), 3 February 2021 07:17

Some EE decks in my /decks folder have version of used experienced BK/BH in decks name

saaam (not official), 3 February 2021 07:43

Ahhh. That makes more sense now. Thank you.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 3 February 2021 09:20

As default every ce/ee decks has to use bk/bh. In SnM options you can set Use Starting Holdings and BK will be created automatically along with Harvestrs if you go second. If you put any experienced version in your deck it will be played instead default ones then they are removed from deck.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 3 February 2021 09:21

Dont forget that Creating Order, Border Keep exp and A Game of Dice from Forgoten Legacy got later (nerfed) reprints. To use them in EE environment just add FL versions to your decks instead Ivory reprints.

A player, 4 February 2021 05:45

i played when i was a kid and just found a box of my old cards looking to see if i can make decks and play again with what i have

A player, 4 February 2021 05:49

A player, 4 February 2021 05:52

there are others that can better answer that πŸ™‚ I play on occasion with friends locally.

this Discord is more in support of Oracle of the Void ( https://oracleofthevoid.com/ ) .. but i have seen some Discussion of cards and rules as well .. the SunandMoon channel may be more what you are looking for.

A player, 4 February 2021 06:09

Yep. Check what edition, etc they are using Oracle. Really old stuff has ebay value

A player, 4 February 2021 06:09

yeah i have a small stack of imperial stuff

A player, 4 February 2021 16:45 · in reply

Depending on how old I'm happy to help you figure out if you have deck worthy cards. I played from 1997-2002 though after that is a mystery

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 17:03

Those were, arguably, the best years for the game. At least fun-wise and community growth-wise.

A player, 4 February 2021 17:06 · in reply

Yea, that was my working in a comic shop getting it for free pre college days.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 17:10

Yeah, that would help.

A player, 4 February 2021 18:14

Oh hey thanks - i separated the cards by clans and have about 10-20 personalities for a few clans - and not a lot of the others.

A player, 4 February 2021 18:15

i think my cards are from 95-96

A player, 4 February 2021 18:18

i mostly played magic, but dabbled in lot5r,battletech and nut runner. I don't have the deckboxes so i don't have any strongholds and the chase cards like hida yakmo and bayushi kachiko are long gone lol

A player, 4 February 2021 18:18

all the cards are before they put rarity symbols on them

A player, 4 February 2021 18:24

Yea go by the borders if you post a few pics of the cards you have with different borders I can tell you what cards to search for

kempy_nezumi (not official), 4 February 2021 18:36

sadly there's not so many pre Lotus stuff, but in readme.pdf you have links for other sites with really old decks

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 19:28

There were no real balanced decks back then.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 19:28

That was part of the fun.

A player, 4 February 2021 19:29

lots of rock paper scissors. decks that would run rampant unless you had the right things to shut it down. reading the environment and predicting was most of the game.

A player, 4 February 2021 19:30

well.. a large part.

A player, 4 February 2021 19:31

Yea Playing Crane vs Shadowlands my friends are upset when I get out ki-rin and the game just ends.

A player, 4 February 2021 19:32

the later decks in jade were much more versitile

A player, 4 February 2021 19:32

those were the days though.... I miss them sometimes when i'd like to dodge responsibility πŸ™‚

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 19:49

Well, to be fair, your friends should be running some kind of PKill in Shadowlands. Kolat Master and/or Assassin, at the very minimum.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 19:49

Ki-Rin is only an issue against really poor decks, to be fair. There were very few ways of keeping it alive back then beyond a turn or two.

A player, 4 February 2021 19:50

you had to pop portents to master/assassin it

A player, 4 February 2021 19:50

so sometimes the cards might not have been in hand.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 19:59

True.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 20:00

I'm more trying to get at saying that there were a lot of problems and overpowered cards, but they tended to have direct answers. For example, Iris Festival was brutal. But you had Avoid Face, and There Is No Hope.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 20:07

Fun thing is, there were a ton of these. A ton of broken cards, and a ton of really strong meta.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 20:08

If you really want to have fun in a casual way, I really recommend pooling cards together and doing something like a cube draft, or similar.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 20:09

Many years ago I used to do that with some friends who weren't hyper competitive; we'd pool cards, sort by type, and then hand out stacks to people, and we'd go build decks to play. So you get a few strongholds, a pile of holdings, people, actions, and so on. Some of it you have to rig a little to make sure people get some staples that work in most decks, but it made things fun. (Also worked amazingly well for the old pre-Last Vegas Rage CCG.)

A player, 4 February 2021 20:20 · in reply

Well the real problem is I just copied the decks from day of thunder imperial heraldn then shipped them to my buds...

A player, 4 February 2021 20:21 · in reply

Yea, we sort of did that growing up, I got Phx and crane my friend took lion and shadowlands everyone else got scraps...

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 20:22

Right. So you've got super tuned decks, that will wreck the field, or get wrecked, with no in-between. That is to say, the game used to have a lot of randomness to it, and these decks are tuned to get around it, which will skew the playing experience.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 20:22

Thankfully with Sun and Moon, you don't have to worry about card rarities. So you can enjoy and customize the field however you see fit.

A player, 4 February 2021 20:23

yea My bud finally played his Lion deck and was like WHY is LIES LIES LIES in this. Then I whipped out a crab deck with breach and shame and he was like OHHHHH

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 20:23

For example, I have a pile of decks that are Open until TotV/SCC. Then open to Spirit Wars. Then Strict Jade to DJH. Then Strict Jade to Spirit Wars. Etc.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 20:25

When I have time, I also build decks slowly advancing one set at a time, because the environments swung wildly between sets, especially in the Open and Jade eras.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 20:25

You could have the entire tiers redefined by a single expansion, because so many broken and overpowered cards were printed.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 20:26

And then a couple of sets later the MRPs hit and nerf, but not enough. Then later is overpowered meta.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 20:36

It was also a magical time where you could run multiple wildly different kinds of decks off of the same stronghold. Some clans could do literally everything off of one box: honour, military, dishonour, and even enlightenment or a special Event-based win condition. Often you'd have 2+ methods of winning in the same deck.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 20:37

In the latter arcs, this was really shut down, and you started getting the focused strongholds and the 2-3 "themes" per clan, and you were screwed if that wasn't what you liked.

A player, 4 February 2021 20:38

wild

A player, 4 February 2021 20:39

I think My crane deck has won military once

A player, 4 February 2021 20:39

Iris Fest and a clan sword had to take my team in for resource control

kempy_nezumi (not official), 4 February 2021 20:47

@saaam eg in last arc (ivory/twenty festivals) every clan had only one stronghold per clan. you could build anything if you had of course enough clan personalities for theme or there were some unaligned to fill the gaps. sensei cards could help to shape your deck as well.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 4 February 2021 20:49

2+ methods of winning were popular in every arc i played (since Lotus), it was often called "switch deck". most popular were military/(dis)honor ones.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 4 February 2021 21:03

Event based win conditions were moslty jank tech and with al anti-event meta it was always to risky. better concept were win-con events as additional pressure element. I remember that eg Claiming the Throne was quite popular event in its time and even saw people winning thanks to it.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 4 February 2021 21:03

this one was legal in Samurai, Celestial and Twenty Festivals

kempy_nezumi (not official), 4 February 2021 21:04

btw the more i learn about oldest arcs, more i believe it was just strange and crazy l5r, but it was far from being the best l5r ccg era.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 21:06

Yeah, I would agree with that. The game in the early years was just wild, but really fun. I wouldn't recommend it for a structured large-scale tournament, because of the randomness and meta variability. However, for the community, and local game store tournaments, as well as casual play, it was really fun and enjoyable.

A player, 4 February 2021 21:13

My go tos were dark magics silly but fun, abandoning the the fortunes with ninjas, and Doom of the dark lord.

saaam (not official), 4 February 2021 21:15

Yeah, those arcs also had a ton of variety in factions. The game never recovered after the crunched them down for Gold.

A player, 4 February 2021 21:16

IMX folks just wanted to play their faction. So if they killed my faction off I would have lost my mind.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 4 February 2021 21:17

Imperial had these wicked one-stronghold factions, but eg in Celestial and Emperor also were Strongholds that allowed to make strange unaligned decks or one-faction decks like Imperial (Journeys Keep exp).

A player, 4 February 2021 21:18

A player, 4 February 2021 21:18

I have a ton of cards with this style that were part of a lot I bought.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 4 February 2021 21:20

it was 100% anti meta deck, as in "normal" scene there was Mantis deck with lot of money that just kill every Personality on the table. So this JEkexp deck don't play any Personalities that made Mantis fate deck obsolete πŸ˜‰

saaam (not official), 9 February 2021 21:13

A player, 28 February 2021 19:56

can someone with more xp and knowledge look this over and see if this is about right?

A player, 28 February 2021 19:57

It's the action rounds broken down by phases and actions available in each

A player, 28 February 2021 19:57

i'm trying to make sure I'm playing right lol

saaam (not official), 28 February 2021 20:10

Ahh, that's modern L5R. No more Events phase. So sad.

saaam (not official), 28 February 2021 20:10

Can't help you with that, unfortunately.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 28 February 2021 20:10

what means Open in engage actions?

saaam (not official), 28 February 2021 20:11

That, too. Some of the formatting looks off. Or things are in the wrong place?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 February 2021 20:15

"Open" actions can't be taken in Battle. Scrub those from sections C21 and F22.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 28 February 2021 20:15

about Proclaim - usually you do it during Dynasty but technically speaking you can Proclaim (once per turn) at any moment where Personality is Recruited on your turn. Example: using Reserve keyword, or any battle action that allows Recruiting eg from Province

saaam (not official), 28 February 2021 20:17

Depends which ruleset you're playing with. For a majority of the game's life, you could take Opens in Battle.

A player, 28 February 2021 20:18

Let's go with 20f/ivory rules

kempy_nezumi (not official), 28 February 2021 20:18

Open during battles was until Lotus, they removed it in Samurai 2007

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 February 2021 20:20

Most if not all of the cards in Oracle that were pre-Samurai "Opens" should be changed to "Battle/Open"s.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 February 2021 20:21

Also, for your Dynasty Phase, the Drawing/Discarding is the very last thing, after everything else, so you should switch it and Legacy on your list.

A player, 28 February 2021 20:25

Good call thank you

kempy_nezumi (not official), 28 February 2021 20:38

Also need to add that Equip is Open ability

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 February 2021 20:42

Or maybe note that it's "both players", since the chart is just a graph of a single turn sequence.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 February 2021 20:44

"Equip", that is.

A player, 28 February 2021 20:52

So in the action phase can both players equip?

A player, 28 February 2021 20:53

I'm confused on when these open and equip actions may be taken. Also removed open from battle phases and placed dynasty discard and draw at the end

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 February 2021 21:13

During the Action Phase of every turn, players alternate taking actions just like in a combat segment. The player whose turn it is (active player) gets the first action and may take Limited or Open actions, but the other player(s) may only take Open actions. Equip is an Open. Does that help/make sense?

A player, 28 February 2021 21:15

Oh that does thank you

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 February 2021 21:16

No problem! πŸ™‚

A player, 28 February 2021 21:23

Updated the action round again does that look right?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 February 2021 21:41

Well, since you're putting "Equip" and "Open" as two separate things under the active player, you should probably put Equip also under the non-active.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 28 February 2021 21:44

Also, I'm not sure why some of them are capitalized and some aren't. Is that just how you copied them from the CR, and it doesn't really hold any meaning in the confines of your document?

A player, 28 February 2021 21:49

Yeah I copied from the CR
