Greetings. Old School player here with a question with the new Shrine of Eight Heavens Phoenix SH and Gold Pooling. "...when paying for a single (Tengoku) Personality only." Since the Gold is pooled, how does this restriction work?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 6 September 2026 19:18 · in reply
All the Gold produced can only pay for that Personality; no extra is pooled.
A player, 6 September 2026 19:20
So really only an issue for printed Tengoku characters who cost less than 5.
A player, 6 September 2026 19:21
Hopefully they made sure there aren't any so there is no issue lol
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 6 September 2026 19:28 · in reply
Less than 3, I'd say. For printed Personalities of 3, 4, or 5, you're not getting/losing any poolable Gold anyway. Only for GC 1 or 2 do you produce extra and are prevented from pooling something you otherwise could've... or... oh.
Are you aware there's no Clan Discount anymore either?
A player, 6 September 2026 19:31
Even a 2 gold Tengoku personality doesn't net positive, it just consumes the extra production.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 6 September 2026 19:32 · in reply
That's what I said? :/
A player, 6 September 2026 19:32
Its not a blitz deck
A player, 6 September 2026 19:33
Just a cool honor/military deck that averages 5 honor a turn just from dudes
A player, 6 September 2026 19:33
(not jealous at all)
A player, 6 September 2026 19:35
Kinda depends on how many non-Phoenix Tengoku personalities there are
A player, 6 September 2026 19:36
For spending 10g on the cheap side, sure.
A player, 6 September 2026 19:37
Not counting genbu
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 6 September 2026 19:37
Ahem. Straying a bit from topic? Move to Card Commentary, maybe please?
Yes I've been mentally trying to recalibrate character costs considering that. That and only being able to gain the PH of only one person per Dynasty phase. I'm strangely excited to see the holding options to see what kinds of Gold structures are available. Was always a Lion clan player so having a legitimate SH that produces 4 is very intriguing. (Will not acknowledge the Tombs brought forth by rejected MTG players wrecking the storyline)
A player, 8 September 2026 21:42
Just want to make sure. On this if someone uses this during the open phase, and the cycles it back from the discard pile in combat. Ala kanos or the holding that brings back attachments... it cant be used again that turn right? Because it never returned to hand?

A player, 8 September 2026 21:43
It retains its memory
A player, 8 September 2026 21:44
So no, it can't be used
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 8 September 2026 21:44 · in reply
Yes, but more accurately, because it was never face-down and out of play at the same time.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 8 September 2026 21:45
The deck is another face-down area besides the hand that it could go into "used" and pop back out of "fresh".
What if it just goes face-down but in-play some how?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 9 September 2026 00:28 · in reply
Unlikely, but technically while in play, should retain memory and trackability even while face-down. Most applicable to Ninjutsu Ninja of yore.
A player, 13 September 2026 01:23
Can this interrupt stop engages that say they are battle, but can be taken as engages. IE:
[attachment: image.png] [attachment: image.png]
A player, 13 September 2026 01:26
No
A player, 13 September 2026 01:26
The designator Battle/Engage only indicates when you take the action, and that is what it counts as
A player, 13 September 2026 01:27
So Reinforce the Gates could stop it if it were used as an Engage, and the Interrupt above could stop it if it were taken as a Battle action before the Defender's first action.
A player, 13 September 2026 01:29
Thats what I thought but I wanted to make sure.
A player, 13 September 2026 13:19
Is the "or" in front of "the weapon copies" a typo? I'm having trouble parsing if so. The samurai copies the weapon, and then if conditions are met, the weapon copies the samurai?
Jeremy Sumerlin (rules official), 13 September 2026 13:20
It's either. the samurai copies the weapon's ability (and that ability now has no costs), OR the weapon copies one of the Samurai's battle or open abilities
A player, 13 September 2026 13:20
Ah, ok
A player, 13 September 2026 19:53
If you use Last Glance Castle on Mirumoto Goro and one of his equipped weapons to copy Goro's MA to the weapon, how do you pay the cost, or does the ability not work because the cost can't be paid? And do you still use Goro's Chi to set the value of the MA?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 13 September 2026 20:00 · in reply
You can't pay the cost of Goro's ability if you copy it to a Weapon. It becomes, "Bow one of [this Weapon]'s Weapons:", and the Weapon has no Weapons attached to it.
A player, 13 September 2026 20:01
tragic
A player, 14 September 2026 19:15
Trying to remember, do created followers count as fate cards? do created personalities count as dynasty cards?
A player, 14 September 2026 19:18
Yes
A player, 16 September 2026 20:38
How does the focus effects of these 2 cards interact?
They dont contradict. Duel becomes a duel of Force. For whomever focused Brutal Lesson, their duel stat is now their printed force, maximum fv is equal to current force. Loser dies
A player, 16 September 2026 20:43
Ok I didn't know if there was a timing thing where one overridded the other.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 16 September 2026 20:49 · in reply
Yes, actually. While most of the effects of the FEs can exist concurrently, using just (implicitly current) Force versus printed Force as your duel stat are two mutually exclusive effects (the same as two FEs, one saying saying "use your PH" versus another saying "use your Force").
Active player decides the order that FEs resolve, and the last one would take precedence .
A player, 16 September 2026 20:52
So if the active player wanted Brutal Lesson to resolve last the FE from Like a Twig would completely go away or just the use of current force as the duel stat?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 16 September 2026 20:53 · in reply
If BL resolves last, it will only supplant the stat used by the player who focused it; the other player would still be beholden to using Force via "Like a Twig"'s effect.
A player, 16 September 2026 20:54
What if you focused both of them?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 16 September 2026 20:54 · in reply
That doesn't change anything.
A player, 16 September 2026 20:55
So the duel still remains to the death?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 16 September 2026 20:55
Yes.
A player, 16 September 2026 20:57
just to be sure Active player is the one that played the ongoing duel action?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 16 September 2026 20:59 · in reply
Active player = the player whose turn it is
A player, 18 September 2026 23:10
Yu that triggers at resolution, is that at the same time as the province getting destroyed or is the province destroyed after yu triggers? @Brook Cunningham Tournie question
A player, 18 September 2026 23:12
specifically for this trigger
[attachment: image.png]
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 18 September 2026 23:14
Pretty sure it's before the Province is destroyed, but it's after the army Force has been counted; if you're thinking killing an opposing guy could somehow save the Province, it can't. Does that help, or do you need a more definite answer on some other aspect?
A player, 18 September 2026 23:15
before and at the same time are 2 contradicting answers lol
A player, 18 September 2026 23:15
That Yu in Battle resolution won't save or destroy a province, math is already calculated before units are destroyed.
A player, 18 September 2026 23:15
So dying in battle resolution is after the check of Force?
A player, 18 September 2026 23:16
Correct
A player, 18 September 2026 23:16
Will wait for @Brook Cunningham to concur of course
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 18 September 2026 23:17 · in reply
Well, I was sure of that, but now that you're waiting on me, I'll give into the self-doubt you've created and double check. 😛
A player, 18 September 2026 23:18
Pretty sure force totals are checked (who won? Is the province destroyed?), then units are destroyed, then attacking units (if they exist) go home bowed.
A player, 18 September 2026 23:19
Would this trait mean anything unless it helps to destroy the province?
A player, 18 September 2026 23:19
Don't kill him during battle Ishiken 🙂
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 18 September 2026 23:19
Yes, first you tally the two Forces, then all the "ifs" based on that tally happen. Nothing that happens after/during the "ifs" can change the outcome/tally.
A player, 18 September 2026 23:19
Oh ok so it only works if you kill him with a battle action
A player, 18 September 2026 23:20
I assume he's 4F, so that way he "contributes" even if killed by a Battle/Engage action
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 18 September 2026 23:22
Wait wait wait, I'm sorry.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 18 September 2026 23:22
a player, I totally misread the situation.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 18 September 2026 23:23
I somehow thought the Force swing affecting the army, not the Province directly.
A player, 18 September 2026 23:27
We ran it as the yu did NOT effect the province to save the province
A player, 18 September 2026 23:27
and that did not change the outcome of the match
A player, 18 September 2026 23:28
basically we ran it as... the province wasn't there when the yu bonus would be applied.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 18 September 2026 23:31
Yep! Even now that I'm on the same page, I think BBlade, Techno, and I are all in agreement that changing the PS caused by the Defending units dying in Resolution and activating Yu won't change the tallies. The CR text goes:
"If the Attacker wins, he or she destroys the Defending army. If the attacking army's Force was greater than the Defending army's plus the PS of the battlefield's Province, the Attacker also destroys the Province." My emphasis on the adverb in the second sentence; it implies all the tallying already happened before all the "ifs" are resolved, and all the "ifs" are resolved more or less simultaneously. It's just the nature of the written word that they appear in the Rules as a "sequence", but it doesn't make sense to count the total of the Defender's army from before it's destroyed plus the "current" strength of the Province after the army was destroyed, if you follow me?
This makes a lot of sense because if the personality is 4F then the Yu train cannot be counted at battle resolution because then he would be effectively counted twice in the resolution
A player, 18 September 2026 23:34
Yeah, I mean the province got crunched it was ultimately just a question of how many resources needed to be used to crunch it. +4 or not lol
A player, 18 September 2026 23:48
20F rules didn’t have Yu, so the CR wouldn’t have that in mind
Yotsu dojo can be used on your opponents personality to gain honor if they meet the other criteria correct?
A player, 23 September 2026 16:15
And the "gain 4 honor" effect would take precedence over the rulebook rehonoring a personality if used on your own as card wording trumps rulebook?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 23 September 2026 16:16 · in reply
Yes. It doesn't say "your", it says "a".
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 23 September 2026 16:18 · in reply
I think maybe you're misunderstanding the ability by asking this? Yotsu Dojo's ability is not performed, nor does it target, so it can't rehonor anyone.
A player, 23 September 2026 16:19
Asking from another discord so yeah that makes sense.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 23 September 2026 16:20 · in reply
ORLY? A private and/or non-English one? I feel like I'm in the others. 😛
A player, 23 September 2026 16:21
Yeah the big l5r discord you're in. They mainly focus on lcg but they have a ccg section
A player, 23 September 2026 16:22
So feel free to chime in there with a better explanation
A player, 23 September 2026 16:22
So in this case, if you're dishonored guy with 2 ph blows up, you lose 2 but then gain 4?
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 23 September 2026 16:23 · in reply
Ah, yep. I'm in there too, but I generally ignore it as ccg doesn't come up much.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 23 September 2026 16:24 · in reply
Depends on who performed the action that killed the guy, if anyone.
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 23 September 2026 16:25
The Personality in the trigger and the dishonorable Personality referred to at the end are not necessarily (and not likely) the same one.
A player, 23 September 2026 16:30
Ok. I want to get back into the ccg but I'm rusty
A player, 23 September 2026 16:31
The Onyx project is one of the best ways, imo
A player, 23 September 2026 20:06
I think I'm gonna try with three dynasties
A player, 30 September 2026 16:04
@Brook Cunningham with this action can I interrupt my own action that doesn't have a movement to get the invest part of this?
