When I go to Oracle to look for legal cards, do I choose Onyx Edition and Shattered Empire both, or just one?

Shattered Empire
Cool, thanks. Wasn't entirely sure. Shattered Empire is like the second "arc" of Onyx?
Soon it will be Three Dynasties
Gotcha, thanks for clarifying
Except only certain cards in the Onyx base set rotated out with the Shattered Empire base set.
Ah. So will the filter for Shattered Empire get me the right cross section?
Yes.
Thanks! I didn't play Ivory, and my 20 Festivals are still in plastic wrap, so I have a lot of rulebook to read too.
(I'm feeling so nostaglia baited by these cards! The Deathless! Winds! Wow!)
Some of the specific 20F things are new to me, but the concepts from OG5R still make full sense. Question on Absent vs Home. In order for a card with Home to be used, I just need to have presence? Absent can be used without presence and from anywhere?
Well, all actions are governed by the Rule of Presence and Rule of Location; Presence, you have to have someone at the current battlefield; Location, your action if it targets or is from a card in a unit, that card has to be at the current battlefield. "Absent" is only an exception to the former, and "Home" is only an exception to the latter.
(Cool, I remember presence and location well, just not those indicators)
Oh good, you're from post-Samurai Edition, when "Location" replaced "Relevance". π The designators were new with Ivory, to make things clearer and also mostly shorter. Pre-Ivory, there were implicit (mostly movement-related) exceptions, but then it was decided to make them all EXplicit.
Yep! I played from Pearl Ed through the very very first days of Ivory. I remembered that things were majorly changed, but never got accustomed to those changes.
I'd say the biggest, most significant Ivory+ changes were the removal of "Clan Discount" (with "Out of Clan Tax" replacing it) and the introduction of "Gold Pooling". Oh, and the removal of "Reactions" in favor of "Interrupts", but don't get too attached to those. They're going away in 3 Dynasties. π
If I read the 20f Comp Rules and the Onyx Datasheet, am I basically current ruleswise?
Gold pooling and cost changes were THE big two I remembered!
Reading the 20f Rulebook alternates from scrolling like a teen on Instagram to sudden and intense reading lol
Even the 20F Comp Rules have their minor imperfections, unfortunately (especially unfortunate since I'm the only one around left to blame for that π ), but it's still good old L5R at its heart. π
Exactly what I came for.
Kano's Alliance Winds: are both versions distinct and legal in the current environ?
Yep! π White bug = Shattered Empire Legal. Onyx Edition used to have White and Black bugs, but when the ShE base set released, it "replaced" it, being 90% identical anyway, and Onyx's white bugs were removed.
Can the created Fox Spirits be Proclaimed?
I thought you only got proclaim as part of the recruit action?
The Fox spirits say "Create and Recruit"
Sounds like a "Yes"
Ok, wasn't sure if it was only from provinces
Hmm good point, not 100% sure - haven't really messed with Kitsune family stuff
It is only from Provinces (CR pg 53), so "no" on the Created Spirits.
Ok, thanks!
Also if it says "recruit action" then the spirits themselves aren't brought in using the recruit action specifically.
But generally speaking the spirits have the same Honor as the shugenja summoning them right?
They have the PH of whatever it says in the effect that creates them. XF/YC/ZPH, as an example, their PH is Z. If there is no given value, XF/YC and nothing else, then their PH is 0.
I know..
I am specifically talking about the kitsune spirits, I thought they generally had the same honor as the shugenja summoning them
Ok. I mean, I really haven't paid close attention to if there's a direct correllary pattern.
I just checked oracle. They all have exactly the same PH as their summoners.
Not sure why you would want to proc them over their shuggies
Ah, fair point. Moreso than Proclaiming having to be from a Province only, it's definitely more well-known that it's only OPT.
(Sorry, just fuzzy on late era CCG things!)
Were you thinking you can proclaim more than once?
I was thinking that I wasn't completely sure how proclaim worked. π
gotcha
Could the rule for discarding a Ring for its ability be built into the rules for Rings itself? Then you could skip that phrase altogether.
It will be
The rulebook will have the text for discarding the Ring to use the ability without bow cost
Could the rule for discarding a Ring for its ability be built into the rules for Rings itself? Then you could skip that phrase altogether.
β¦it will be Building that rule into Rings means you have to put the text for said rule somewhere
It doesn't appear on all Rings, but having reminder on a couple seemed prudent
Keywords = king

When you legacy, does the card get discarded first or just banished from the hand directly?
Directly to banished
Thanks!
Assuming you're referring to ShE ruleset
Yeah. On here I don't ask about anything except the current legal format. On the SnM discord I specify.
For the new Boar stronghold, if you keep taking actions from Weapons, your Fears and Melees keep getting stronger, right?
IIRC there's no cap, no.
yeah there's no indicated cap - that seems pretty good
Can be!
can't wait to see the other clans!
I think you'll like Dragon π
I sense a defensive shugenja theme incoming
I am so excited by the MCAcards, lomg time Mantis player, been playing long enough that i was with Yoritomos Alliance so I am very pleased thematically!
I started with Toturi's Army and then went to Mantis so I am hyped ngl, glad to see the Monkey getting in on it now
For the new HeroGon sh, playing a Bushido Virtue does not count as discarding one?
Correct. Discarding it as a normal sequence of playing it is not an effect of the action/card but of the Rulebook.
Also saying it here so that everyone should call the archetype HeroGons from here on out lol
Heh thatβs what I called it when working on it
Better than Paroes.
Perros?πΆ
heh... Paragliders...
if they have strong movement shenanigans, Paragliders would be a hilarious name for them.
