Is there a summary of rules changes that apply to the current edition from, say, someone who last played in Diamond edition? Looking at the Onyx/ShE rules datasheet there's a lot of new terms spread around!
Onyx Lives #rules-questions
Messages from the Onyx Lives #rules-questions Discord channel, copied for Oracle of the Void. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings and the rulebooks may differ.
If I understand correctly; Some major ones are that gold can be pooled and spent on separate cards (within the same phase). Gifts and Favors is gone, but there are similar cards with the Legacy trait like "Tsudao's Grave" for getting guaranteed holdings. And the second player gets a stronghold boost but they can give it up for 3 gold for one turn. And there's like 20 new traits with minor mechanical power but most of them seem pretty easy to remember since they look pretty thematic like "Conqueror"
Reading the Onyx Lives preview pages I see that Cavalry was changed so much they made a Sensei that gives the old cavalry rule lol!
I like that a lot, are there any other easy to miss changes?
some more big changes - there's no messing around with blood money, in-clan characters are always what's on the card (or you don't meet the honor req)
out of clan characters cost 2 more than printed
Oh cool. I bet that was a popular improvement. Explains some of these gold costs I'm looking at
i liked it
duelist keyword? not sure if it was around in diamond and if it did, how it worked
I seem to recall lots of dueling changes, with a side deck or something. Looks like now you can just choose to focus from the top of the deck, and duelists win ties. Is that a fair summary? (I'm going to be pitching trying out the game to some friends who stopped playing back around Diamond too so I don't want to spook them)
I like the return of Sensei cards! Some just don't have any downside, right? Like Onizuka Sensei here just gives a bunch of bonuses. But we can still only have one Sensei, right?
You can also choose to focus from hand.
yeah, thats a good description
yeah, only 1 sensei
Oh thank you for the clarification! So it's sort of like choosing between risking a blind focus value (which could be lower than you want) versus losing cards from your hand.
the downside to onizuka sensei is that you gotta run siege personalities and probably fortifications
TBH most people just don't focus anymore unless they have a penalizing Focus Effect in-hand, which is why many cards are designed to force at least one focus.
I like that a lot, back when we played non-dueling decks generally just let dueling decks win duels if they didn't have a Kharmic Strike or something. With this the defender at least has a chance if the challenger chooses to focus from the deck and gets unlucky
Oh really? Is there a real downside to just blind focusing from your deck? Is it because the dueling decks have lots of focus effects?
Well I don't want to get in the weeds with strategy questions here, sorry 🙂
Since it's been a persistent issue I think it's just a psychological thing. Why try to fight an opponent on the same axis they are?
This is only pseudo-rules questions, but for deckbuilding is there any card bans, errata, or limitations I should know about besides just searching for Shattered Empire legality?
I know some continuation games like the Game of Thrones LCG use "pods" to separate certain problem cards from each other without banning, or how Arkham has a "Taboo" list.
No, the dev team here will issue errata to cards if necessary. They regenerate the card image and push it back out into the world
Over time I've been trying to keep track of the incremental edits we made by recreating some errata posts from our various drops on our website here: https://sites.google.com/view/the-onyx-lives-project/home
(Scroll down on the left-hand sidebar to "Errata and Updates")
Some of the update specifics may be lost to time alongside a chunk of content that we lost from our old Wix site, but yes, we update the cards along the way in Oracle and our SnM database.
Thanks much!
Hello I have a question on this card and I would like to know hot it works
does he obliges that personality to attack cause I do not see there "if" in the sentence
No, he does not compel the Personality or its player to attack.
and I do not se either a "must"
he would be good if he wopuld do that in other case hes just average
Thanks @Brook Cunningham
i assumed it worked like You said but i hoped that maybe maybe .. xD
Yeah, only 1 effect I know of in game that forces a target to attack... and that is a maho spell lol
A player using, the trait, recruits a fortification holding from the discard pile. Does the recruited fortification go on a province of the player's choice? Does it just..end up in play?
Province of choice. It's in the Comprehensive Rules, but I couldn't cite you exactly where at the moment.
Does Transpose the Infinite' recruit the personality at the current battlefield or at the player's home?
Current battlefield
