So I just dove into a rabbit hole in the RRG, so I'll put it to the rules experts.
Assuming no other cards on the table, Would Shiba Tsukimi (Onyx Exp) get the Void discount for Nature's Embrace?
Messages from the Onyx Lives #rules-questions Discord channel, copied for Oracle of the Void. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings and the rulebooks may differ.

RRG? :/
But to answer your question: No; how would she have Void?
Sorry bouncing between games. Comprehensive rules (i had actually just discovered a rules discrepency in the LCG RRG so that was partially on the brain).
There is some discrepancy in the Equip action description where it omits the "entering play area," despite the entering play area also including Equipment in its description, which technically would mean (if it were true) that the card is in play when it attaches, thus she has Void, but thats easily solved by stating intent and declaring Entering Play to overrule the Equip entry (compare to Strategy which explicitly says it enters the EP area)
The stronger argument IMO (although admittedly still a little weak) would be the Good Faith rule which takes into account future changes to the game state
but yeah thats why I asked. I was previously under the impression that as she gained Void as it entered play that the discount would apply, but I understand that that impression does not fully track
I'll make a note to shore up that issue with the Equip process in the CR, but by no means does its omission mean the card is somehow under your control before it attaches, nor can you preemptively get the discount accounting for the game state after/because it attached.
Yeah. The impression was mostly dispelled when I read that Entering Play was an Out of Play area, not an In Play area, but I wanted to be sure
I'm reading through the basic rules right now. Am I right in reading Personalities are assigned to Provinces? They aren't "floating" until a Battle takes place?
They are at Home if they are not in a Battle
I'm reading the Turn 3 example of play and trying to make sense of "The Lion declares an attack and assigns both his units to the Province in which Hida Saiyuki sits."
"Home" is where your cards in play are. Then, when an Attack Phase is delcared, battlefields are created at the Defender's Provinces, and Personalities are assigned to Attack and Defend at those battlefields.
"In which Hida Saiyuki sits" means that card is sitting IN the Province, waiting to be bought and brought into play.
OH
That makes sense
I appreciate it, thanks guys!
I've finished the basic rules. I don't think I write understand the benefit to Dueling. It doesn't grant you Honor like Battle does, doesn't destroy the other Personality, doesn't win a Provence, and seems very risky
Well, in case it was perhaps not clear, dueling doesn't ever happen without a specific card creating the duel. The process is all based in the Rules, but the duel itself must be created by a card, upon which whatever boon to the winner or consequences for the loser are printed directly. You can't start a duel with out a card. Like:
As one example.
Ah, that makes drastically more sense. It didn't explain what benefits the duel card might grant
One of my favorites (not legal in the current format though 😢 ):
0 cost? Crazy
Or 3 gold?
Wait, what is the 3?
Focus Value
Okay, so if a duel is happening and you play that it adds 3
If you Focus it, yeah
Right. Focus Value on Fate cards also matters in a handful of other circumstances outside of Focusing in duels. The "Tactical Advantage" ability that Tacticians have as the primary other way.
Ah gotcha
All in all the differences in seeing between this and FFG are both significant and exciting
The two games were only superficially similar.
So now that I've read the Basic Rules, I need to read the Onyx ones?
I love this community and so glad of the many awesome humans who are able to invest such good time. I bow to you all.
Yep. Onyx is slightly different but not significantly so
(This should be a server emote)
Awesome, thanks
Maybe the advanced rules first? I do believe some concepts of the game are explained there and not in the basic rules booklet
Okay, made it through the Advance Rules! Makes a lot of sense, def might need a cheat sheet for Traits with rules and various actions. I'd totally forget to Lobby and stuff otherwise
