When you flip your stronghold is the bonus gold for 1 turn?

Jeremy Sumerlin (rules official), 4 August 2024 02:53

Yes

Raid battle resolution will destroy attackers but not defenders?

Jeremy Sumerlin (rules official), 5 August 2024 00:22

Correct

Jeremy Sumerlin (rules official), 5 August 2024 00:22

You're the one taking the risk by Raiding

A player, 8 August 2024 13:53

In the card overwhelm, it says Destroy your target unbowed Personality with the highest force (including ties). Does that mean that if you have personalities tied with the highest force, you have to destroy both of them?

Jeff Williamson (rules official), 8 August 2024 13:57

no, as the player of the card, you choose one of your unbowed Personalities with the highest Force to destroy

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 8 August 2024 14:00 · in reply

The reminder is meant to clarify that if 2+ Personalities have highest Force, it doesn't mean that "there is no highest Force Personality" because no single Personality is highest.

Can a response to a battle action be performed even if you don’t have presence in the battlefield? For example, can you interrupt Kanpeki XL’s battle action with Yaheiko Sensei’s Interrupt?

Answers on: Yaheiko Sensei
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 8 August 2024 16:00 · in reply

No. Unlike Reactions, Interrupts and Responses are governed by Rules of Presence and Location.

A player, 8 August 2024 16:02

Thank you again!

A player, 11 August 2024 05:01

Does Binasa’s bottom ability stop personalities from bowing to use a card from hand like “Like a Twig”? Is the personality I target, performing the action and since the personality is a “card in the unit” it can’t?

A player, 11 August 2024 05:07

1) There is no more performing 2) no, it only affects printed actions

A player, 11 August 2024 05:08

Thank you!

A player, 11 August 2024 18:20

If you proclaim Matsu Gakuya would you not gain honor and rehonor?

A player, 11 August 2024 19:21

If you are not using the deathseeker oath, you are correct. But that sensei prevents proclaim

A player, 11 August 2024 19:33

Ty!

A player, 11 August 2024 19:35

Can you use “Let go Brother” to target an attachment in discard pile?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 11 August 2024 19:52 · in reply

Nope, sorry. Unless they explicitly say otherwise, actions can only target cards in play.

A player, 11 August 2024 19:53

That’s what I thought but wasn’t positive. Thanks!

A player, 11 August 2024 22:41

Is the honor loss from Shidare no Oni negated by Mishima Sensei?

Answers on: Shidare no Oni
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 12 August 2024 00:24 · in reply

Technically, yes. However, this means that a Spider player cannot use the second ability. The same oversight was noticed and corrected on Profaned Temple, another Holding from the same set, and it will be for this one as well. Thanks!

If an opponent uses Overwhelm and ring of earth, can you prevent the destruction of your berserker personality using Yaheiko Sensei?

A player, 12 August 2024 18:53

Who used ring of earth?

A player, 12 August 2024 18:56

You can use Yaheiko and choose not to move, if your target Berserker has the highest force, then they are not destroyed

A player, 12 August 2024 18:58

Now, why would your opponent want to use Earth?

A player, 12 August 2024 19:00

To get a super unit dead

A player, 12 August 2024 19:00

Is that how it works?

A player, 12 August 2024 19:01

Yeah. They shouldn't use it into the Berserker Sensei but yeah

A player, 12 August 2024 19:01

I thought the choice in overwhelmed was of targets

A player, 12 August 2024 19:03

Overwhelmed does not say "if the personalities did not move, destroy the enemy personality with the highest force"

A player, 12 August 2024 19:05

The way I see it, the enemy leader should be able to target two units and then the movement is negated because of earth

A player, 12 August 2024 19:13

They choose and go home. If they did not (choose and go home)...

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 12 August 2024 19:14 · in reply

Yes.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 12 August 2024 19:15 · in reply

Daisuke is correct; both the targeting and moving home must take place, or else the destruction must happen.

A player, 12 August 2024 19:23

Ok, makes sense. Thanks!

A player, 13 August 2024 02:27 · in reply

The opponent will still have to destroy their highest personality right?

A player, 13 August 2024 02:27

Yes but you wouldn't use this card unless it was a net benefit

A player, 13 August 2024 02:27

Wait

A player, 13 August 2024 02:28

No, if Yaheiko Sensei is used, That's that, Overwhelmed is negated.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 13 August 2024 02:28 · in reply

Do you mean the person who played Overwhelmed?

A player, 13 August 2024 02:29 · in reply

Yes

A player, 13 August 2024 02:29

Oh.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 13 August 2024 02:30 · in reply

Yes, they would.

A player, 13 August 2024 02:31

Apologies, I thought you meant the Yaheiko Sensei Player.

A player, 13 August 2024 02:35

No worries. I should have clarified. This was a confusing interaction since Ring of Earth is an interrupt so I thought the opponent wouldn’t have a window to use an interrupt after I use RoE.

Answers on: Ring of Earth
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 13 August 2024 02:41 · in reply

Yeah. While you cannot Interrupt an Interrupt ITSELF, there is a full back and forth of taking potentially multiple Interrupts to the same non-Interrupt/Response action. Thus, Announce Overwhelmed, Pay (nothing to pay), Choose initial target, Interrupt round: Ring of Earth, Yaheiko, Pass, Pass, Resolve Overwhelmed...

A player, 13 August 2024 02:54

Thank you!

A player, 14 August 2024 23:36

Is “One Must Bow” only playable with compassion or is that just the focus effect portion?

Answers on: One Must Bow
A player, 15 August 2024 00:10

Neither.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 15 August 2024 00:15 · in reply

To elaborate, the "Compassion" keyword is just the Bushido Virtue associated with the card. It is not the same thing as, and has nothing to do with, the "Compassion" trait/state of "having Compassion".

A player, 15 August 2024 00:49

Ahhh thank you.

A player, 16 August 2024 17:51

If you play rout and destroy an attachment while fields of slaughter is in play…. Do you not gain 2 honor because the destruction occurs after the movement?

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 16 August 2024 17:54 · in reply

Fields of GLORIOUS Slaughter? If so, yes, you're correct.

A player, 16 August 2024 18:34

Ty!

A player, 17 August 2024 01:44

Is it after? Or is it simultaneous? I ask because after, to me, would imply either "then" or a new sentance

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 17 August 2024 02:07 · in reply

You talking about Rout? That's two separate sentences. But even if it weren't, if effects are written "X and Y", Y happens after X.

A player, 17 August 2024 02:37

You had me questioning my whole life for a few min, but no my Gencon print of the card is, in fact, one sentence in an X and Y format. So Y happens after X? Odd, but okay

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 17 August 2024 02:43 · in reply

Oh, huh. Sorry, I just looked at the Oracle. Figured we wouldn't have changed it much; shows what I know. But yes, everything happens in the order written unless it's explicitly simultaneous.

A player, 17 August 2024 10:39

Hi again folks.

My opponent has a Personality with an Oblivious Scout and 2 other attachments. He uses its Engage ability.

I have a Meditating Mind. Let's say I don't want to use its Interrupt to counter the Engage - can I use the Battle ability to bow the Scout along with the other 2 attachments since I already addressed the clause that I need to target the scout first? Or do I only get to bow it and not the other 2 cards? Thanks.

A player, 17 August 2024 10:58

You cannot use Meditating Mind's Battle action to bow the Oblivious Scout because you need to target the Scout first, and MM targets the Personality (targeting a unit is the same as targeting the Personality)

A player, 17 August 2024 15:35

I learned this much to my regret at Gen Con

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 17 August 2024 15:36

It just wouldn't be a high-level L5R tournament without some players learning how certain cards worked for the very first time. :3

Does Yaheiko sensei’s -2F and Elite only works if the personality was bowed by a fear effect?

Answers on: Yaheiko Sensei
Brook Cunningham (rules official), 21 August 2024 18:01 · in reply

Yes. And they have to be opposed and the Fear had to have come from another player's action.
