is it intentional that Cross Blades can target any of your own Personalities, including bowed ones? Especially since the effect of the duel is bowing the loser

If I use the Cavalry Engage to bring one one my Cavalry personality with another of my personalities, and that there are now unopposed, does it mean that I have to give -2 F to one of my own personality ?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 2 October 2023 10:09

As i read it and as it says "after" you must give -2F your Personality even if you moved into current battlefield alone as this ability doesnt have "may".

Jeff Williamson (rules official), 2 October 2023 10:15

That is correct, the trait is intentionally not optional

A player, 2 October 2023 13:39

A question about the interaction between Hideyo Sensei and, for example, Retreating Salvo : does the trait which give -2 F apply immediately after the move, or does it apply after all the effect of the action ? In other words, can I give -2F before ranged 3 ?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 2 October 2023 13:50

I believe theres typo on Sensei and there should be moved instead moves.

Jeff Williamson (rules official), 2 October 2023 13:52 · in reply

I'm curious why you think so

There are traits, not responses. Traits triggers at specific moment while Response window is after whole responded action resolved.

Jeff Williamson (rules official), 2 October 2023 13:54

ah you're talking about in the Response action itself

Jeff Williamson (rules official), 2 October 2023 13:56

context is different, since there had just been discussion of the trait just above I was reading your issue as being with the trait

Jeff Williamson (rules official), 2 October 2023 13:56

you might be right, we'll probably wait for the full editing pass to address

A player, 2 October 2023 13:59

In other words, since it's established that traits trigger at the specific moment, the -2F from Hideyo Sensei would trigger before the Ranged 3 Attack from Retreating Salvo, if I'm understanding this right?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 2 October 2023 14:14 · in reply

1) you announce movement ability like eg Cavalry Engage 2) Interrupt window - pass 3) movement action resolves 3a) Senseis trait triggers right after your Personality moved in, so you give -2F to any Personality at current location. 4) movement action resolved 5) Response window: you announce Response ability on Sensei. 5a) Response ability resolves, so if there's a typo and should be "moved" in its text, and you fulfilled its conditions, so your movement moved in Berserker Personality to the current battlefield, you may take additional action before -1F penalty from Sensei happens 6) As additional action you announce and resolve Retreating Salvo 7) Rest of Response resolves, so you give -1F to Berserker you moved in.

A player, 2 October 2023 14:18

Don't think that's the question kempy. I think he means within Retreating Salvo, does the -2F proc before the Attack portion of the action, or are the move and attack portions simultaneous?

kempy_nezumi (not official), 2 October 2023 14:19

Ah, you are right.

A player, 2 October 2023 14:19

In the former case, he can move, give an opposing 5F -2F, then kill it with 3 Attack

A player, 2 October 2023 14:19

In the latter, he would not

kempy_nezumi (not official), 2 October 2023 14:19

Yes, penalty happens right after movement, so before RA.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 2 October 2023 14:20

If there would be "After an action resolved that moved your Personality" that penalty would happen after whole action resolves, including RA.

kempy_nezumi (not official), 2 October 2023 14:20

But now penalty is triggered right after movement.

Question:

[Cross blades]

Battle:

Opponent targets their person with [cross blades] to duel my person.

Regardless of winner or loser of "that duel"; next action=

i target my person with MY OWN [cross blades]; would that person (my person) gain 1 honor FOR BEING TARGETED a 2nd time (this turn/battle/by [cross blades])?

(The ENEMY has already targeted my person once with the duel/ card entitled [cross blades]?)

A player, 11 October 2023 17:52

This means this card, not the title of the card

A player, 11 October 2023 17:53

"This" is still referring to targeting not "this card"

"This" also is referring to "This turn"

A player, 11 October 2023 17:53

Has to be that copy of the card that targets to get the honor gain

A player, 11 October 2023 17:54

Doesn't refer to the title of the card in the text of the ability at all

A player, 11 October 2023 17:54

hmm i think it hast to be the very same card used by Discipline from your discard and paid 2

A player, 11 October 2023 17:55

Could use a slight rewording for clarity during the next set of wording edits, to clarify for either interpretation

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 11 October 2023 17:55

Self referential text only refers to that copy of itself unless explicitly stated.

A player, 11 October 2023 17:55

Or add the honor gain as an effect to the discipline, maybe?

A player, 11 October 2023 17:55

So if i have x3 [cross blades] in hand, they become A, B, C

A TO A = gain1 A TO C= NO GAIN, NO SOUP!?

A player, 11 October 2023 17:56

Correct by my estimation

A player, 11 October 2023 17:56

same are my thoughts

A player, 11 October 2023 17:56

It's how I read it as well.

A player, 11 October 2023 17:56

Macbeth is final word tho

A player, 11 October 2023 18:00

In my limited experience with card games, if a card refers to the title if itself (Card A reads "Effect A, if target has been targeted by [Card A], Effect B") it includes other copies, if it refers to "this" it's only its own copy

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 11 October 2023 18:03

Well, I can't speak to intent, but as written, the Clash means the same copy. A to A, no A to C.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 11 October 2023 18:05

Per what I said above about self-reference.

A player, 11 October 2023 18:05

The "its own copy" interpretation also makes the Repeatable part make more sense, with any of your personalities being initially targetable balancing that in turn. If the honor gain stacked A to C, being able to target your bowed personalities would make this overpowered

A player, 11 October 2023 18:07

So on the end it's 2 bow duels card where You pay 2 and banish a card

A player, 11 October 2023 18:07

After all, imagine gaining 5 honor plus Honor discards from repeating the action on a bowed Personality

A player, 11 October 2023 18:07

Yeep.. One word... MADNESS

A player, 11 October 2023 19:00 · in reply

This is implying my opponent is doing nothing to me

In practice, even if [cross blades] did that, its tough to keep presence

The weird thing is, your bowed guy could DUEL TO THE BOW, lose, still gain 1 honor, as honor gain is on targeting

"DUEL ME!" HYAHHH, YOU LOSE " DUELL MEE" HYAHHH YOU LOSE!! "the empress has honored my actions today, you are the loser; take em away otomo" wait, wut......

A player, 11 October 2023 19:06

U was going to say something, but then forgot it has repeatable.

A player, 11 October 2023 19:06

I forgot it had repeatable.

A player, 12 October 2023 04:58

Do dishonorable personalities still have their personal honor reduced to 0, and do you lose honor when they are destroyed?

A player, 12 October 2023 04:58

yes and yes

A player, 12 October 2023 04:58

thank you thank you

kempy_nezumi (not official), 12 October 2023 06:26

Yes, if your dishonored Personality dies, you loose Family Honor equal to printed value of their Personal Honor.

Brook Cunningham (rules official), 12 October 2023 10:23 · in reply

Also, it's a subtle difference, but technically while dishonorable, a Personality's PH isn't reduced; rather, a maximum of 0 is imposed upon it.

A player, 12 October 2023 13:59 · in reply

I get that. I's important for things that would increase their PH while dishonored.
