Your Rules for Friday, January 7, 2005
Rules question.
Is a unit with some unbowed and some bowed cards considered to be bowed or unbowed?
It is neither. A unit is only bowed or unbowed when all the cards making up that unit are bowed or unbowed.
Rend and Raiding
If you play Rend the Soul during a Raid and are unopposed do you win the raid Battle? If you are defended and Rend does Rend's tie clause kick in and prevent you from winning the raid battle no matter your force?
No. You don't "win" unopposed battles. It says so right in the rulebook.
Aramasu's Pride doesn't change that rule at all. Its gold-production-increasing effect, however, keeps its tally of "won" battles during the raid to include unopposed battles where you have greater than 0 Force. That does not change the status of "win" for any other card or effect.
I know you cannot destroy opposing armies because of how Raiding is worded on Aramasu's Pride but i am curious if Rend will interact differently during a raid.
It doesn't interact in any special way with Raid Battles themself, though you can use it to capitalize on Aramasu's Pride's wacky counting methods to get extra gold.
Misdirection
Player A has Ikoma Korin exp and four other Lion Personalities in his army. Player B opposes him with a 5F Personality and two 3F Personalities. Korin plays his Battle action. He wants to target the 5F-Personality with 3 Ranged 2 Attacks and the 3F Personality with 2 Ranged 2 Attacks.
[MARTY] Well, that would be a bad idea. I think he'd rather target the 5F Personality with a Ranged 6 attack and the 3F Personality with a Ranged 4 after that.
Player B plays Misdirection. When has Misdirection to be played?
[MARTY] Play Misdirection after any segment of playing an Action during battle in which another player selected one or more targets.
Consecutive Ranged Attacks are funky in that each Ranged Attack after the first one needs to be announced and targeted only after the previous Ranged Attack in the sequence has been dealt with. This means that during the Targeting Step, Korin's player would only choose 1 target. You could play misdirection after that, or after he chooses targets for the next one.
For each Ranged Attack, he must announce what strength he is using before selecting targets.
Which options of Redirection has player B now?
To redirect the Ranged Attack that's targeting it was played in response to - just 1 Ranged Attack - and he can't change the Strength value at all - that's not a targeting decision.
Paneki and Random
Player A has Paneki XP2 in play
PLayer B plays deranged Mujina, so everyone disard a random card from his opponent's hand.
Since the hand is visible, can player A choose the card he discard ?
It says, "random," not "face down."
Being able to see the hand changes nothing other than compromising the randomness of that player just yanking a card out of your hand. You can break out dice for it if you want to get picky, but taking a blind, random draw does not in any way realistically impact Paneki's ability in-game. The method you choose does not matter so long as the result is RANDOM.
Active traits in discard pil
Am I reading this correctly when I say that, if Daigotsu is in the discard pile, and he's still Shadowlands, he has the ability to bow for the Black Wind ability?
He still has the ability, but he can't use it in the Discard Pile any more than Kakita Korihime can duel you from beyond the grave.
And if a Shadowlands Daigotsu is dead in a discard pile, can Shahai (exp) use a Blood token to gain the same ability?
"Shahai gains a copy of one of his printed abilities until she uses this ability again."
She specifies "printed ability." Any ability gained via an effect (even an effect of that own card's traits) is not one of its "printed abilities" unless the effect that put it there specifies such.
Does "Disciple of the Kami" imply Kami?
For the purposes of cards and effects that key of Kami, does "Disciple of the Kami" count as a Kami card? I think no, just like "dragon clan" is not a dragon (unless it's satsu), but there is a local player that wont back down until he sees something from Marty or Jeff.
It doesn't imply anything. It - says - Kami, right there on the card.
"Disciple of the Kami," does not have any special rule saying that it can't be broken into component traits. The Rulebook specifies that such a break-up can not happen with Faction Traits including "Toturi's Army" and "Dragon Clan." You can use "Disciple of the Kami" cards with any cards looking for the "Kami" trait on such a card.
That should cover everything for Friday. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of your Clear and Distinct subject line. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
