Unicorn Rules Question #1

I have Shinjo Suboto face up in my provinces. My opponent plays Ambush on one of my Personalities. Can I bring Suboto into play, either in the Ambush battle or in my fief?

You can bring him into play at that battlefield. Ambush prevents Personalities from Assigning or Moving into the Battefield, not being brought into play there.

Unicorn Rules Question #1

I thought to agree but No.. It is not like Gaki-do. The reason why Gaki-do is legal in an Ambush is because it satisfies relavance, and presence, and does not violate Ambush's rule about moving a personality into the battle.

The rule of relavance is very specific, that allows Gaki-do to work. "it moves or creates a card or token in the battle."

For Suboto's battle action to work NORMALLY with relavance it is either movement or it is creating a Suboto in battle.

Well, it isn't movement, and it isn't creating either. I asked Jeff about it, and he says that anything that brings a unit into your army under your control should meet both Presence and Relevance.

So her sent me this E-mail for working Errata on the Rulebook:

Introducing a card, token, or unit into the current battle in any way -- including bringing something into play from a Province -- will satisfy the Rule of Relevance. You are not restricted only to actions that create cards/tokens out of nowhere or that move them into the battle from another battle or from home.

If that thing is a unit, and you'll control it, this also satisfies the Rule of Presence (which the rulebook already covers).

On: Gaki
Unicorn Rules Question #2

Set up: I am playing Khol Wall. I have two Shinjo Loruko's in play. I have 5 or 6 regions in play. I have Moto Latomu exp in play. My opponent has two 3F chump blockers in play.

I attack my opponent's provinces A & B. Neither has a Region attached. He assigns one of his chump blockers to each Province, I assign a Loruko to each province, and keep Latomu exp in my Fief.

I resolve Province A first, and play Sneak Attack. I us e the Khol Wall Action and switch the location of my two Lorukos.

Question 1: Can I place a generic Region at both Provinces (or just the active battle) using Loruko's reaction to movement?

You should be able to do it in both Provinces. It does not reference "opposing" or "this battle" or "the current battle," to run afoul of the infamous page 81 of the Diamond Edition Rulebook.

Question 2: Can I produce a Ranged Attack at both Provinces (or just the active battle) using Latomu's Reaction to movement?

Just the Current Battle. Ranged Attacks, according the the DE Rulebook, require - opposing - targets, which invokes the clause on the Dread Page 81: 'A player can take an actions that refers to an "opposing" card or "this battle," or that includes an implicating phrase such as "another attaching card" or "the Province this card is defending," only if the card on which the action is printed is in the current battle. This includes Fear (see page 91) and Ranged Attacks (see page 90) ... This rule applies to all action types.'

Question 3: Besides affecting the strength of the Ranged Attack, does it matter which order I resolve the reactions in?

In relationship to 1 RA ability and 2 Region-creation abilities, none that I can see. You have the choice of whichever one you want to play first, if any. They are all optional, and all identically timed.

Was that a trick question? Uh oh ...

RUN AWAY!!!!

bowing a bowed card

Ok since its been brought up with nizomi the question is. can an opponent bow a bowed card.

Effects that try to bow a bowed card or straighten an unbowed card fail to have any effect if they resolve under such a condition. You can't be more-straightened or more-bowed. However, having one effect of an Action doomed to fail does not itself make that Action illegal nor the target an illegal one.

The card would actually have to specify, "Bow an unbowed Personality," for it to be an illegal play on a bowed Personality.

Also, it is good to keep this ruling in mind: "If a card effect forces you to make a decision, you may not choose an option that is known in advance will fail. You may, however, immediately respond with a voluntary effect that negates or cancels the action or effect you chose. [Summary of other rulings]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Decisions")

And since bowing a bowed card fails, it won't successfully pay costs either. You need to have the subject card go from being unbowed to bowed.

That should be everything for Saturday, the first of January, 2005. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of your Clear and Distinct subject line. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
