Reduced Gold cost

I want to ask about Personalities like Shosuro Mikado, Utaku Jamaira, Agasha Miyoshi, and other with similar traits like "Costs X less Gold if ..."

Normally, traits do not apply if the card where the trait is written are not in play. But this Personalities gets the Cost reduction because of "obvious legality rule". Is it true?

It isn't a matter of Obvious Legality. It has been clarified / errata'd directly:

"While traits of a card are always active, even while the card is not in play, the traits of a card that is not in play do not affect anything except that card itself. [Dawn of the Empire rulesheet erratum, JA, 8 November 2004]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Traits")

When they are in play, they still have the Cost reduction, or not?

If it is a continuous, trait-based reduction, sure. If the reduction has strings attached like the Rulebook in-clan reduction on page 59, they won't retain the reduction past that context.

So for Jamairu, Mikado, and Miyoshi, their reductions are continuous, trait-based reductions, and will always be "on" while you meet their requirements. This may make it more expensive to overlay them with Thunders.

1.- I have a Fire Dragon in play, and a Agasha Miyoshi face-up in the Province. Could I pay 3 Gold to hire Agasha Miyoshi (without gaining Honor) and bring her into play?

Assuming you a Phoenix player, sure. That's the whole point of her trait.

2.- After Miyoshi is hired, I have a Isawa (Experienced 7) face-up that I want to overlay. How much gold I have to pay if I overlay him over Miyoshi?

Miyoshi has a printed Gold Cost of 7 and a trait that reduces her cost to 5. Your reduction to 3 Gold only lasted until you brought her into play, as per the Rulebook page 59. So Miyoshi is 5 Gold for the purposes of overlaying with Isawa. The difference in their costs is 9 Gold.

Tarako Question

If my opponent plays Unicorn and he uses Tarakos Action. He destroys a province to kill one of my people can he kill anybody? I mean can he kill people in other battles or at home? Thanks for an answer!

Tarako's ability has no special restrictions on who it can target other than a Follower or Personality without an attached Follower. Use of her ability must respect Presence and Relevance just like any other Battle Action.

To meet Presence, you must control at least one Unit at the current battle. This need not be Tarako's unit.

To meet Relevance, the Action must come from, target, or affect at least one card or token at the current battle, the battle itself, or bring a card or token into the battle. Tarako's Action will meet Relevance if any one of the following 3 cards are in the Current Battle:

- Tarako herself - The Region destroyed to pay the cost - The target to be destroyed

Rules questions for Marty

1) There was a question asked about the First Oni inxp asked in the last two weeks concerning assignement and movement to other battles that did not include the one he creates between him and another personality. I remember Marty answering, but there was a question about assignement to battles at other battlefields that was going to be sent on to Jeff, did we ever recieve an answer back on this?

Yes, about 5 posts after this question, in fact. :)

It is now archived in the Accumulated Rulings:

"There are no battles at Provinces. [JA, 15 December 2004]" (Accumulated Rulings, "The First Oni (Inexperienced)")

It was not the Designer's intent to create any other battlefields.

2) Reactions to end of the end of Raid attack such as Retribution and Counterattack, do they trigger another set up Raid Attacks or are they treated as normal attacks where provinces and armies can be destroyed during resolution?

There are no text on Retribution making battles into Raid Battles. They are regular battles with their own distinct Attack Phase.

3) Can the action to unbow all shugenja on Sezaru be used in the same method as the unbow action on Bayushi Motomu both in and out of battle?

You mean, can Sezaru use his unbow Action while he's bowed? Yes, so long as it unbows him in the process. If he loses "Shugenja," or is locked down by the Ruby of Iuchiban, he'll be in trouble.

Rules] Aramasu?s Pride

When I play a Plans within Plans in the other Players Action phase and my stronghold is unbowed do I get my Raid battle action or does my opponent gain another battle phase? We were discussing this what is happening so what will happen?

The player who took the Action declares the Attack.

You can effectively sneak a Raid Attack in during your opponent's turn.

First Oni / Ambush, Agasha Miyoshi

Ambush and the First Oni, due to similar function, both fall under the existing ruling already governing Ambush: "There are no battles at Provinces."

Both cards will get improved wording in the full Diamond-Legal card reference file currently planned for January.

Agasha Miyoshi

The last sentence should read, "Fill the Province with that Dragon, face-up." (Currently, she does not specify, and the game has no well-established default.) This is ERRATA, effective immediately.

Wedge, Superior Stance, Battle Resolution Timing

1.) What happens when you wedge someone and they're moved to another battle by someone elses card effect?

Wedge continues to do exactly what it says it does. You still can't target cards in that unit. It won't double their force during resolution since the unit isn't "still in this army." It will kill them after the battle.

Superior Stance: Apologies if this has been asked, i didnt see any FAQ on it 1.) It was argued back and forth, "negate all other effects of refusing" Does this mean it negates , for example, being dishonored and losing 7 honor, or does it negate the effects of refusing period, making the personality accept the challenge.

It negates the effects of refusing, not the refusing itself. With Iaijutsu Challenge, you don't lose 7 honor, the personality isn't dishonored.

So i know that Simultaneous things are frowned upon and the players turn whose it is chooses what happens. However, in this instance: An army beats another army controlled by a player who has the Left Hand as his wind. During Battle resolution, are all cards destroyed simultaneously, or in sequence.

Simultaneously, unless it creates a conflict.

Reason: If Destroyed in sequence: Can a player react to a Samurai being destroyed by bowing a Courtier not yet destroyed?

No. They all die at the same time, and Left Hand can only happen "after" the destruction.

That should cover everything for Wednesday. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of your Clear and Distinct subject line. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
