Your Rules for Saturday, November 6, 2004
Shinjo's Courage
Because it is a separate sentence, you get the honor gain regardless of whether you destroy an opposing personality or follower, right?
Yes. That effect is not influenced by the previous effect's "if" qualifier. They are separate effects, simply resolved in sequence.
The new bloody phoenix[rules]
I have a couple of questions about the city of blood due to the "your cards rules":
These questions have nothing to do with the "your" rules. The stronghold preview I'm reading on tsuruchi.com clearly states : "Phoenix Clan Shugenja you control."
There is no reference to the word "your" there at all.
1. I suppose that iuchiban´s sensei doesn´t work with it; that means that all your suggies that are not bloodspeakers (seruma,toshiji,...) cost one more gold to you and your stronghold doesn´t produce one more gold for paying them.
Seeing as you don't "control" any cards in your deck and Provinces and City of Blood specifically says, "Phoenix Clan Shugenja you control," yes, that is the case.
Iuchiban Sensei's second ability (the Reaction) works with City of Blood just fine, though, and you don't need 1 more gold to buy Agasha Seruma off the Stronghold, even at 6 gold. Toshiji doesn't play so well with the Bloodspeakers if you mix in Iuchiban Sensei, though.
2. In the same case, kinuye´s garden doesn´t work with that shugenjas, cause in your provinces they are not "your bloodspeakers".
Again, none of these cards use the word "your" at all.
If the Personality has Bloodspeaker while in the Province, Phoenix get 4 gold to pay for it.
If the Personality does not have Bloodspeaker while in the Province, Phoenix get 2 gold to pay for it.
The fact that you are converting the Personality to the Bloodspeakers after you've already recruited him is a moot point.
Overlaying and permanent changes
When a card is overlaid, the experienced version has the abilities of the card under it. Does this count as a permanent change to the card for things like the Egg of P'an Ku? Or is it a property of being an overlaid card?
"The later version keep the earlier one's attached cards, tokens, bowed and dishonored status, and all changes currently in effect, and permanently gains all its abilities." (Diamond Edition Rulebook, page 66).
"Permanently gains all its abilities," seems like a permanent change to me.
Heck, even if you kill the Personality later and all the under-cards are removed from the game, page 67 still tells you to, "Keep them handy for reference, though, since the top card still has the bottom cards' abilities."
That should cover everything for Saturday, November 6, 2004 that isn't related to Web of Lies (and even one question that is, more to address a general text / definition issue than anything new). If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of a Clear and Distinct subject line. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
