Rules for 29 October 2004
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Hey folks. Sorry for the bit of a backlog. Between the Red Sox, the Presidential Race, the big 9/11 Charity Tournament, running Booster Draft events, and a large volume of beginning-of-month publications at the day job, things have been kind of crazy here. I'll do my best to get you everything caught up A.S.A.P.
To that effect, here are your Rules for Friday, October 29, 2004
New Rules - Please answer quickly
I just got a preview from some people who got their set of some of the new rules in Dawn of the Empire.
Dawn will be legal for play on December 2nd.
Cards in a set are legal one month after it's release.
RULES changes and MRP's, however, are applicable the moment a set is realeased.
When is the official release date of Dawn so that we can know when the new rules from Dawn of the Empire are going into effect? Since people have started to get their Dawn sets, do the new rules apply now?
The effective release date for Dawn is November 1st.
I'm looking at the new rules page, though, and there's nothing on it that applies to the game itself or to any existing cards. Every single one describes the new templating. If you're not using any Dawn cards, the new rules don't matter.
rules: Wedge and +Force Followers
can anyone explain to be the process and timing wherein a 4 force personality with a +2 force follower ends up with more than 12 force after a Wedge?
It is a situation dealing with Conflicting Simultaneous Effects, so it will fall to the Cardinal Rule regarding such instances (player's choice). It is a conflict basically due to the fact that you can not perform the mathematical operations of addition and multiplication simultaneously, so someone has to choose whether to double the Personality's Force before or after doubling the Force of a Follower with an additive Force stat.
1 Dawn Question, 2 Situations
The Rules Update in Dawn of the Empire says the following:
your: Starting with Dawn, this no longer means "controlled by you and in play."
Does the above statement then mean that "your" now refers to cards in hand, Provinces and decks?
It does not mean that. (If it did, it would actually have given the word that definition.)
It means that for cards in Dawn of the Empire and beyond, "your" loses its old definition. That's it. It will no longer have a status as a precise game term and will only have common English usage in contexts where its meaning is clear. Things like cards you control will be referred to as "cards you control". "Your" will still appear, but it will be used for things like "your hand" or "your Dynasty discard pile".
Hoshi Akiyama's 2nd Battle Action
As Akiyama's ability is giving you two consecutive actions, that would fall under the "It targets or directly affects ... the battle itself." Is this correct?
No, it is not. It is not considered to fall under that category. Mushin only works due to the so-called "Rule of Obvious Legality" - there is no time you can EVER play Mushin and not run afoul of the Rule of Relevance, so the Rule of Relevance is ignored by Mushin. Since you do have a way to meet Relevance using Akiyama's ability (having him at the battle), you must do so to legally use the ability.
That should cover everything from Friday, October 29, 2004. If I missed your question, please repost with the flag [RULES] as part of your Clear and Distinct Subject Line and I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
