Horiuchi Question

If a Shinden Horiuchi player has an Elemental Dragon in play, can it attach spells?

Yes, if that Spell is coming from some place out of play (like your hand). It isn't an Item until it is under your control, which means it needs to be successfully attached to a Personality you control.

When on a card says "once per turn", you can play that reaction onevery player turn or only once in the whole turn.

No. You only play the action "once per turn." If it says, "once per turn, per player," then that's a whole different ballgame.

Marty, Can you clarify this? Every player has a turn start for them when they flip their dynasty cards up. Can't Agasha Tomioko be used once during every players turn?

[MARTY] OOOOH. I see what he was getting at now. I misunderstood the original question.

There is only one thing designated as a "turn" in L5R. L5R is not like say, the "Warhammer 40,000" minatures game where a game's "turn" is further subdivided into a series of "player turns."

Only when an instruction - explicitly - makes such a distinction (like A Favor Returned unbowing, or the Rulebook letting you do things only on your own turn) is a distinction made between your turns and your opponent's turns.

So if you have an Action that says, "Once per turn," you can use it once on your turn, and then once more on the next player's turn, etc..

I originally thought the question had something to do with targeting a player "once per turn," and trying to use it on multiple opponents in the same turn. Sorry for the confusion.

PANTS!

Knife in the Dark

I'd just like to clarify that the Political Ninja Open action on the Hidden City card "Knife in the Dark" lasts until the end of the turn, just like all things that do not specify duration. There is a local player that is adamant that Knife in the Dark's open action is permanent, "because otherwise the card just plain sucks."

You're right. It is an unspecified duration, so you only have the ability until the end of the turn.

I will neither confirm nor deny the allegation of Knife in the Dark being a horrible card.

;-)

That should cover all the rules questions for Friday. If I missed your question unrelated to Dawn of the Empire, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of your Clear and Distinct subject line. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
